Tuesday night at Taj was turnt, during the fourth Rémy MartinPresents The Producers Series: Season 2 qualifying event. Headlined by Super Producer Honorable C.N.O.T.E., known for platinum hits for artists including A$AP Rocky, 2 Chains, and Rae Sremmurd; hosted by Power 105.1/The Breakfast Club star, Rémy Martin AmbassadorCharlamagne Tha God, and featuring DJ Rey-Mo, from start to finish, the event proved why its quickly becoming the summer’s most coveted invite.
THE “TECH TALK”: To a capacity crowd, and a line down the block clamoring to get in, C.N.O.T.E., interviewed by Charlamagne, conducted a 30-minute music “Tech Talk,” sharing his journey as a producer and giving advice to producers in the room that ranged from “…don’t compete with producers on your level…” to “…work everybody…”. While demonstrating how he comes up with tracks, he called his protégé, Baltimore rapper Tate Kobang to the stage to talk about how they work together, and treated the crowd to an impromptu performance before the competition.
THE COMPETITION: If last night’s “The Producers Series” fourth qualifying round is any indication of how fierce the completion will be come September’s finale, fans of the series have a lot to look forward to. The three producers, Ellio, from the Boston-area, Evan Brown and Priority Mel, both from NYC, went head-to-head, elimination style. Against the audience’s judgement, the first round was a three-way tie; believing Ellio and Priority Mel should have advanced. After two rounds, the Ellio and Evan Brown squared off, with Evan Brown, well known in NYC’s beat battle circles, advancing as the fourth semi-finalist; another hotly audience-debated outcome.
NEXT EVENT: The next qualifying event will be held in Philadelphia, Tuesday, August 15 with none other than Wyclef Jean headlining.
Three days after headlining this past weekend’s Rémy Martin Presents The Producers Series: Season 2 qualifying event at Tao Downtown, world renowned producer Wyclef Jean takes to Periscope to declare that via the competition he has discovered a new producing protege in ‘Rémy Producer Series: Season 2’ semi-finalist Point 1.
“Season 2” semi-finalist Point 1 proved to be the crowd’s, the judges’, and Wyclef’s favorite after defeating two other up-and-coming producers–JL Beats and Rizz Beats–in a double tiebreaker vs. JL Beats. As semi-finalist, Point 1 moved on to the “Season 2” September finale, but one the big prize when on the spot, Clef offered to buy his qualifying track and met with Clef today in his New Jersey studio.
Wyclef will also headline Rémy Producers Series semi-final qualifying events in Boston, July 25th and in Philadelphia in August. Producers interested in competing can submit tracks via remyproducers.com.

Headlined by Producer Extraordinaire Wyclef Jean, hosted by Power 105.1‘s The Breakfast Club star, Rémy Martin Ambassador Charlamagne Tha God, and featuring DJ Rey-Mo, from start to finish, this weekend’s Rémy Martin Presents “The Producers Series: Season 2” qualifying event at Tao Downtown was hands down one of the best events of Summer 2016.
The format of “The Producers Series,” typically, only includes a quick interview with the super producer, a “tech talk” breaking down one of the producers’ most famous tracks, and then the one round producer competition.
Well, Wyclef took it to a whole-nutha level! From “doors,” as guests entered Tao Downtown, they were treated to Clef, on his bass guitar, battling DJ Rey-Mo as he spun. Clef continued by dropping jewels of wisdom steeped in his nearly 30-year career, as he chopped it up with Char. During his “tech talk,” he broke down multiple diamond hits including “Killing Him Softly” and “My Love is Your Love.” Additionally, responding to calls from the crowd, Wyclef showed up a “fan” claiming to have bars, but ended up choking TWICE; and gave an impromptu mini-concert; all for the capacity crowd.
This week’s “Season 2” qualifying round didn’t disappoint either. Competing up-and-coming producers JL Beats, Point 1 and Rizz Beats battled it out for the second semi-finalist position. For the first time in the series, two of the producers ended up in a in a double tiebreaker–JL Beats and Point 1–with Point 1 proving to be the crowd, the judges, and Wyclef’s favorite moving on to the September finale. On the spot, Clef offered to buy Point 1’s winning track.
Next up on the ‘Rémy Martin Presents “The Producers Series: Season 2″‘: the series heads to Boston for the next qualifier, Monday, July 25. This season Rémy Producers expanded the series into Boston and Philadelphia; the Philly event will be held in August. Season 2 finale will be held in New York City in September.
