Lupita Nyong’o Stands Boldly In Kenya On The Cover of Vogue

In all of her melanin, the beautiful and talented Lupita Nyong’o graces the cover of Vogue right in her homeland of Kenya photographed by Mario Testino.

As the official shoot is based off of bold colors, glorious prints and majestical looks, Lupita wears fashionable and culturally inspired pieces by Roberto Cavalli, Chloé, Christian Louboutin, Phillip Lim, Duro Olowu, Zac Posen, Akris and more.

Above, pictures a joyous moment with her parents (left): father, Senator Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, who represents the country of Kisumu, and her mother, Dorothy Nyong’o, the Managing Director of the African Cancer Foundation. To the right, Lupita sits with her paternal 96-year-old grandmother, Dorca who built a dormitory for orphaned and disadvantaged schoolgirls.

During the exclusive interview, Lupita says:

“There are certain cards that have been dealt me that I take on. I want to create opportunities for other people of color because I’m fortunate enough to have a platform to do that. That is why Eclipsed and even Queen of Katwe are so important, to change the narrative, offer a new lens on African identity.”

About her skin color vs. the industry vs. growing up:

“The European sense of beauty affects us all. I came home from college in the early two-thousands and saw ads on TV with a girl who can’t get a job. She uses this product. She gets her skin lighter. She gets the job. The lording of lighter skin is a common thing growing up in Nairobi. Being called ‘black mamba.’ The slow burn of recognizing something else is better than you.”

In Fashion: Beyonce Reigns On The Cover of Vogue’s September Issue

With her official birthday approaching [Sept. 4th] it’s only right that she receives a major gift in celebration of the upcoming major day!

Beyonce aka Queen Bey covers Vogue’s September issue and of course, she looks quite stunning. With a natural less-to-no-makeup look and her signature wet hair, Bey stuns in a pink lace Marc Jacobs dress [$12,000] and coat [$4,800]. This makes her the “First Black Female Artist” to ever cover the veteran fashion magazine.

The cover story centers around the Destiny’s Child cohort and the art of global domination. At this point, who wouldn’t want to receive a few pointers from Bey herself, on how she consistently keeps her name in the spotlight, making moves in the community, fashion, business ventures and on-stage.

A few designers gave praise to Beyonce in the issue:

[Atelier Versace dress]

Marc Jacobs himself says:

“The word diva is used for so many female performers, and it often means they have reputations for being difficult, but she exudes charm and a lovable quality.”

[Stella McCartney dress, $3,995]

Stella McCartney quotes:

“She’s the whole package: primal, rare, delicate, beautiful, and powerful.”

[Givenchy jacket & Louis Vuitton dress]

Riccardo Tisci says:

“There is a magnetic presence to her.”

Vogue’s September issue hits stands on Aug. 25

Cara Delevingne Covers VOGUE Magazine’s July Issue

Cara Delevingne looks absolutely stunning on the latest cover of Vogue Magazine’s July issue.

In the printed interview, Cara talks about her mother’s substance abuse, her sexuality, her very own partying ways, current girlfriend Annie Clark, backlash from the LGBT Community and more.

Screen Shot 2015-06-25 at 4.57.26 PM

About her sexuality:

“It took me a long time to accept the idea, until I first fell in love with a girl at 20 and recognized that I had to accept it. But I have erotic dreams only about men. I had one two nights ago where I went up to a guy in the back of a VW minivan, with a bunch of his friends around him, and pretty much jumped him. Women are what completely inspire me, and they have also been my downfall. I have only been hurt by women, my mother first of all.”

About love:

Being in love with my girlfriend is a big part of why I’m feeling so happy with who I am these days.

This should be an interesting read.

[The Word] Meet Donyale Luna, The First Black Model To Cover Vogue UK

Here’s a Black History tidbit for ya…

Donyale Luna is an iconic African-American model who aided in usher in the acceptance and celebration of refined black beauty in the world of fashion.

While Beverly Johnson is celebrated as the first black model to cover American Vogue, just eight years earlier in March 1966 Luna was featured on the cover of the publication’s British edition–thus making her the first black woman to appear on the cover of any Vogue magazine, period. [Source]

The now iconic cover image shows Luna covering most of her face with a strategic hand gesture, which was allegedly a request of the magazine’s editors to help mask her ethnicity.
