Recently, Cassie teased us at this year’s VMAs saying that she was dropping new music soon titled “Make Up” produced by Detail. But before that hits, the talented vixen gives us a little taste of the upcoming movie Honey 3 (in theaters Sept. 2nd) and delivers the new single from the film called “Joint (No Sleep).”
Today MTV unveiled the first promo, Canvas, to launch the creative campaign for the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards. The spot pays homage to the ‘VMAs’ at Madison Square Garden for the first time in its history, offering an awe-inspiring black and white portrait of the world’s most famous arena as a gift; a blank canvas on which each performer will express unparalleled artistry and vision.
Anthony Mandler, one of today’s top commercial and video music directors, directed ‘Canvas.’ He has helmed over 15 of Rihanna’s music videos and directed videos for Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Drake, Eminem, Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake, to name a few. The theme song of the campaign, “Do Your Thing” by Charles Wright & the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, serves as the featured music in the spot with Swizz Beatz lending his powerful voice to the spot.
As MTV locks in performers for the show (all still to be announced), each performer will select a signature Pantone color and message, and MTV will commission a visual artist or filmmaker to bring their words and vision to life via a 30-second content piece. This content will then be incorporated into the larger campaign. With each artist, a new color and creative piece will be added to the VMAs palette, filling in this blank canvas and advising the scheme for entire campaign (and ultimately the show). The result will be a campaign that’s highly personal, artist driven and reflective of this year’s main show look and feel. Additional works of art will be released throughout the campaign that feature each performing talent’s own words as to why the VMA stage is one of the greatest opus of which they dream.
The MTV Video Music Awards announced the nominees for this year’s ceremony via Facebook live this morning. Leading the pack was Beyoncé with 11 nods for her Emmy-nominated visual album Lemonade.Adele follows with 8 nominations for her record-breaking album 25. The songstress’ will be competing for Best Female Video along with Rihanna ft. Drake “Work”, Sia “Cheap Thrills,” and Ariana Grande “Into You.”
The award show returns to the Big Apple this year. Grande landed 5 nominations along with Drake who nabbed Video of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Male Video, and Best Art Direction. Kanye West received two nominations for “Famous” while his foe Taylor Swift on the other hand garnered zero nominations. The pop star’s “1989” album came out in 2014 so her recent singles “Wildest Dreams,” “Out of the Woods” and “New Romantics” were ineligible.
West’s infamous track features naked images in the likeness of the rapper and other celebrities, including his wife Kim Kardashian, Swift, Donald Trump, and Bill Cosby. ‘Famous” is at the heart of the current feud between the Chicago emcee and Swift. Kardashian recently delivered receipts; leaking audio of Swift giving West her blessing to the lyrics, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex.” The “Wildest Dreams” singer originally denied West’s claims he reached out to her prior to releasing the song. She quickly changed her tune, now claiming West did not play her the entire track or reveal the lyrics in full omitting the line, “Why? I made that bitch famous.”
West’s video for the controversial “Famous,” garnered the Video of the Year nomination and will be facing-off with Beyonce’s “Formation,” Adele’s “Hello, “Justin Bieber‘s “Sorry,” and Drake’s “Hotline Bling.” Newcomers Bryson Tiller, Desiigner, Zara Larsson, Lukas Graham, and DNCE, will battle it out for the Best New Artist award.
The late David Bowie, who died from cancer earlier this year, earned four nominations in the categories of Best Direction, cinematography, art direction and editing for “Lazarus.” The video featured the icon frail and lying in bed, eyes bandaged and was released several days before his Jan. 10 death.
Others artists who earned multiple nods include Alessia Cara, Calvin Harris, Coldplay, Desiigner, Fergie, FKA Twigs, and The Weeknd.
Voting opened online Tuesday. Nominees for best song of the summer have yet to be announced. The MTV VMA’s will be airing live from Madison Square Garden on August 28 at 9 p.m. ET. Will you be tuning in?
Here’s another reason for you Bey Stans to defend the King. The scoop is, Sunday’s broadcast of the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards were viewed by a staggering 12. 4 Million Viewers! Catapulting it to the #1 Telecast for the entire year!
Why You Ask?
Beyonce’s lovely baby bump, that’s why. Insider’s say that from the moment Beyonce showed up on the red carpet caressing her stomach, the ratings began to skyrocket.
I’m not surprised. But I know Kim Kardashian is fuming! We already forgot you were married Gurl! Beyonce denied your friend request with this one. Re-do your profile, add some Wedding pictures that might work.
In other Beyonce News, with 8,868 tweets per second, Beyonce’s pregnancy under the trending topic #BeyoncesPregnant now holds the record for being the most dicussed topic on the social networking site since its beginning.
Did you read what I just wrote?
Beyonce Beat out world events including Osama Bin Laden’s capture and death and (sadly) the death of Pop icon Michael Jackson in 2009.
Who’s got the juice?
According to Billboard.com Lil’ Wayne’s newly released “Tha Carter IV” album could have the second-biggest sales week of the year, as industry forecasters suggest it may sell 700,000-850,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, Sept. 4. The album in question will easily debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 next week, marking Wayne’s third No. 1.
I never have a clue what Wayne is talking about, I might get one or two lines out of every song. But if ya’ll like it, I love it.
During Chris Brown’s performance I couldn’t help but notice how uninterested Jay-Z was, as he sat down amongst a standing ovation, like ‘That was cool’. Not being messy, but MTV made a habit of zooming in on him and Kanye West about 3-4 times during Chris’s performance. So you couldn’t avoid the sight.
So it was quite a surprise earlier yesterday when Hov tweeted;
The tweet was later deleted.
And guess what? I’m not even commissioning my talents to find out. Sounds like I don’t really wanna know.
The frustrating thing about labels now-a-days is their inability to hear good material and pick solid songs. How many times have you listen to an album and said, here’s the best single right here?
When Listening To Beyonce‘s latest jawn ‘4’ it’s pretty OBVIOUS that the stand out tracks singles-wise are ‘End of Time’, ‘Countdown’, ‘Party’ and ‘Start Over’ just to get things rolling … so why don’t THEY get it? Smh.
Well someone is, as ‘Party (Ft. Andre 3000)’ is the next official single from her ’4′ album. In fact, the record will impact Urban/UAC radio next week.
‘Party’ will be formally hit the streets on August 30th. The video was filmed early this month in New Jersey and features cameos from Solange and Kelly Rowland.
I. Want. End. Of. Time. Next.
With an Amazing Video, it has #1 Single all over it, I swear Beyonce has a camp full of idiots.
In other news, King B has been added to the list of performers for the 2011 MTV VMAs.
As excited as I am, I’m nervous that she’ll belt out 1+1 or Best Thing I Never Had, and nobody wants to hear or see that on the VMA’s I mean, C’mon !!
I mean we need ENERGY, and Excitement, Remember 2009?
Or 2006? Coming down from the ceiling?
I’m just saying.
With Lady GaGa, Chris Brown, Adele,Lil Wayne, Bruno Mars and Jessie J. on the bill, we need to show these girls whose the KING!
