FLY Trailers: Will Smith’s Character’s Absence Explained In New Independence Day: Resurgence Trailer

unnamed

I

t’s been 20 years since the catastrophic events of the first movie where intergalactic baddies paid a visit with the intentions to wipe out the human race. Thanks to the brave efforts of Marine pilot Captain Steven Hiller (Will Smith) and satellite expert David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum) successfully delivered a virus to alien’s mothership wiping out their defenses allowing the Earth’s forces to wipe out the invaders in a massive coordinated effort.

Flash-forward to the present, since the last invasion with help David and the left behind alien technology the Earth has been preparing if and when the aliens come back. ind2

They will soon learn that the attack 20-years-ago pales in comparison to the one that’s about to take place. The aliens have been preparing as well to take their revenge on the humans for killing their buddies. The scale of destruction this time around is intense compared the event took place in 1996.

In case you didn’t know, the Independence Day sequel has been set in stone with some of the original cast members, including Vivica A. Fox, who also signed back on for the return of the epic 1996 film.

But, there’s one main ingredient missing and that is lead actor of the classic movie, Will Smith.
On Saturday, Smith headed over to Facebook to respond to a plethora of comments from fans. One of his replies catered to the very question of: Why are you not apart of Independence Day 2?
Will sent a real answer directly to the fan on FB saying:
I wanted to make Independence Day 2. I worked very hard with Dean & Roland (the producer & director) to find what I would do in my performance that would be new, different and exciting for the fans.
But, as an artist I’m in a very different place in my life. I’m 46 years old and I am impelled to push aggressively toward new places, new challenges and ideas. You will see in my next few films that I am taking HUGE artistic gambles. I am WAY out of my comfort zone. I want this period of my career to be the least Safe I’ve ever been.
But, it broke my heart to not return with the cast. 😦
That will definitely take a huge chuck out of the expectations of the film but hey, sometimes you have to move on. Kudos to Will!
Can the sequel survive without Will Smith’s participation? We shall see….
‘Indepence Day 2’ is set to premiere on June 24th just after Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 (June 2nd) of 2016.
Thoughts?
