Earlier this week, Stargate announced their signing to RCA Records. Stargate has written and produced major records for Beyoncé, Rihanna and Coldplay to name a few, and will feature some of their favorite artists on their forthcoming music.
The MTV Video Music Awards announced the nominees for this year’s ceremony via Facebook live this morning. Leading the pack was Beyoncé with 11 nods for her Emmy-nominated visual album Lemonade.Adele follows with 8 nominations for her record-breaking album 25. The songstress’ will be competing for Best Female Video along with Rihanna ft. Drake “Work”, Sia “Cheap Thrills,” and Ariana Grande “Into You.”
The award show returns to the Big Apple this year. Grande landed 5 nominations along with Drake who nabbed Video of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Male Video, and Best Art Direction. Kanye West received two nominations for “Famous” while his foe Taylor Swift on the other hand garnered zero nominations. The pop star’s “1989” album came out in 2014 so her recent singles “Wildest Dreams,” “Out of the Woods” and “New Romantics” were ineligible.
West’s infamous track features naked images in the likeness of the rapper and other celebrities, including his wife Kim Kardashian, Swift, Donald Trump, and Bill Cosby. ‘Famous” is at the heart of the current feud between the Chicago emcee and Swift. Kardashian recently delivered receipts; leaking audio of Swift giving West her blessing to the lyrics, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex.” The “Wildest Dreams” singer originally denied West’s claims he reached out to her prior to releasing the song. She quickly changed her tune, now claiming West did not play her the entire track or reveal the lyrics in full omitting the line, “Why? I made that bitch famous.”
West’s video for the controversial “Famous,” garnered the Video of the Year nomination and will be facing-off with Beyonce’s “Formation,” Adele’s “Hello, “Justin Bieber‘s “Sorry,” and Drake’s “Hotline Bling.” Newcomers Bryson Tiller, Desiigner, Zara Larsson, Lukas Graham, and DNCE, will battle it out for the Best New Artist award.
The late David Bowie, who died from cancer earlier this year, earned four nominations in the categories of Best Direction, cinematography, art direction and editing for “Lazarus.” The video featured the icon frail and lying in bed, eyes bandaged and was released several days before his Jan. 10 death.
Others artists who earned multiple nods include Alessia Cara, Calvin Harris, Coldplay, Desiigner, Fergie, FKA Twigs, and The Weeknd.
Voting opened online Tuesday. Nominees for best song of the summer have yet to be announced. The MTV VMA’s will be airing live from Madison Square Garden on August 28 at 9 p.m. ET. Will you be tuning in?
Samsung closed out the final night of Galaxy Life Fest at SXSW with performances from Sia and Elle King. To celebrate the launch of the new Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge devices, Samsung invited guests and Galaxy owners to the last night of the 3-day music event at SXSW.
Elle King kicked off the 2nd night with an unforgettable performance that kept the crowd cheering all night. The singer-songwriter in a sparkly, black flapper-inspired dress and black leather jacket, sang a soulful rock and roll set, including covers of “My Neck My Back” and “Oh Darling” and her radio chart-topper “Ex’s and Oh’s.”
Sia headlined the evening in her signature two-tone wig and rocked a giant blue bow. She was joined by 3 of her dancers whose intense and remarkable movements wowed the audience through the amazing set that included “Bird Set Free, “Big Girls Cry,” “Diamonds,” Cheap Thrills,” Elastic Heart,” “Alive,” “Breathe Me,” “Titanium,” and “Chandelier.”
James CordenCarpool Karaoke segment never disappoints. This week Corden was joined by singer and songwriter Sia.
The clip starts off with Corden trying to find his way as he heads to the studio. Completely unaware of where he is, he stumbles upon Sia who as it turns out is great with directions. Sia however, needs some help herself as she’s wearing her signature wig and can’t see Corden or the car.
Once settled in and on their way, the pair break out in song to Sia’s “Chandelier.” Of course Corden couldn’t resist asking the singer about her trademark look; which she explains she sports to maintain some shred of privacy.
“I was an alcoholic and a drug addict. I sobered up, and I decided I didn’t want to be an artist anymore, because I was starting to get a little bit famous and it was destabilizing in some way. So I thought, ‘What doesn’t exist in pop music at the moment?’ And it was mystery.”
The duo continues to flex their vocal muscles as they take on “Diamonds” and “Elastic Heart” before Corden blurts out “You believe in aliens.” Taken aback, Sia retorts “How did you know that?” to which Corden gives the most fitting response, “I know s— about you.”
Corden proceeds to don a matching wig and reveal that he really does know s— about the singer specifically about her double-jointed hands. Sia exclaims, “You found out the weirdest s— about me.” The car ride wouldn’t be complete without witnessing Sia balance and hold a dozen eggs on the back of her hands.
The pair close out their ride with a rendition of “Titanium” before arriving at their destination.
Sia is set to release the follow up to her last project 1000 Forms of Fear this month. Slated for release on January 29th, her newest offering is titled This Is Acting. Ahead of its release Sia has teased fans of what to expect by dropping the Kanye West co-written and co-produced track “Reaper.”
You can listen to the track below. Sia’s new album ‘This is Acting’ is available for pre-order on iTunes and feature’s singles “Alive” and “Bird Set Free.”

He continues by singing “Only One” before bringing out Sia and Vic Mensa. This performance brings back fond memories of the old Kanye where his performances were always mysterious, yet powerful and always delivering a deeper message.
