Fly Interview: August Alsina Talks New Music, Love/Hate with Social Media, His Beloved Brother, Usher, 2 Chainz & more with SFPL TV

august-alsina-sfpl-tv
In the midst of prepping for his forthcoming album release of This Thing Called Life and his current single “Song Cry”, which is taking over the radio waves and charts, singer/songwriter August Alsina stopped by SFPL TV to catch us up on a few about his music, how he really feels about social media, touring with Usher, 2 Chainz being the first to put him on tour, his brother, personal happenings in his life, and so much more.

About his new album #TTCL:

It’s really, man…”My Journey.” Life has taken me places. I mean, up, down, all around…just taking me places. The good, the bad, i’ve been through it — i’ve dealt with it all. We born, we got put here, we don’t really know what this is all about. We’re all just here trying to figure it out — trying to be a better version of ourselves each and every day. And that’s what my album is, it’s about the Journey. Me trying to figure out “This Thing Called Life.”

What would a conversation with his deceased brother be like today if he were alive:

Ahhhhh…it would probably be very stupid [he says jokily, as he laughs with a huge smile]. You know, my brother always believed in me. Like ALWAYS. To the point where he used to lie to people actually like: “Yeah, my brother got a deal, wu wuu wuuu” — before I even had a deal. He use to just tell people: “Yeah, my brother got a deal, he doing this, and he doing that.” So, I think the conversation would be: “I proud of you n****, like this is dope what you doing.” You know, I think it would be an “I always knew” kind of conversation. I mean, he knew and believed in me before I did; believe in myself.

Fly Interview: Love & Hip Hop Hollywood’s Willie Taylor & Shanda Denyce Talk Marriage, Music & more with SFPL TV

willie-taylor-shanda-denyce

Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood‘s Willie Taylor and Shanda Denyce paid a visit to SFPL TV to discuss what prompted their decision to be on the trending reality show, being married for 8 years with a relationship spanning 12 years and counting, new music and so much more.

The couple also admitted to cheating on each other before and how their relationship stood strong for so long:

Willie – This my friend [pointing to his wife Shanda] first. She’s my friend, wife and the mother of my two children. So, she wear so many hats that I gotta make sure she’s cool. We keep our friendship first, we keep God in our lives — well, we keep God first, our friendship — we’re providers and I feel like in our situation, I can love her even if it hurts. Like, if she does something, I can find it in my heart to forgive her. She’s a human being and we make mistakes…and I know I have put her through some stuff were she should have been cut my head off. But she stuck there with me. I cheated [Willie]…I cheated too [Shanda].

Shanda – I think it made our relationship and marriage much stronger because we’ve gon’ through so much that nothing could break us at this point.

Willie also mentioned that he would sign a music deal with Diddy if the offer was right:

If, Diddy was to come with an offer to sign me today — as long as the business is right, I don’t have no problem. As long as, the paperwork, the black & white reads what we talked about, then i’m cool with it — I don’t care who the deal is with. But now, my mind is in a different place where I will never be in the position for someone to use me through music again. Suckered [Shana says]. And not to say Diddy used me, cause I don’t feel like he used me — me and Diddy cool. Anything anybody else has to say about him, I don’t have that same story.

Fly Interview: Singer Charles Perry Takes The Throne As The New Soul Superhero on SFPL TV [Video]

charles-perry-sfpl-tv

There’s a new Soul, Rock and Funk Maestro in town and he goes by the name of Charles Perry! Holding down the music fork that has been passed on to him through generations, including from his Grandfather, who was a Doo-Wop legend of the The Jive Five, Charles plans to keep the tradition going, delivering what God has gifted him.

Transitioning from Gospel music, the Brooklyn native plans to represent the Forefathers of Rock & Roll: James Brown, Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix — the ancestors who have paved the way for African-Americans in the various genres of music. Perry has donned himself “the representation of the new Generation of Rock Artists.”

About what separates himself from other artists:

There are a lot of people that are gifted. There are people that are talented. And then, there are people that are anointed…i’m anointed. I created a lane for myself, so i’m not worried about my car swerving or my spaceship going into another man’s lane. My lane is different. I sing Soul, Rock, Funk.

The talented singer also talks about possibly doing a Gospel album, if asked — because of his strong love for God. He also, speaks about bouncing back and forth in between genres, and music legends like Luther Vandross that influenced his style.

Fly Interview: Singer JR Castro Talks Timbaland, New Music & Performs “Love You Down” for SFPL TV

JR-Castro-sfpl-tv

Singer/Songwriter JR Castro has been creating quite a buzz for himself with his new single/visual “Get Home” featuring Kid Ink & Quavo (of Migos). The official video to the hit song is not only climbing the music charts, but has now reached over 1 million views on Vevo in a matter of 3 weeks. The song was inspired by Faith Evans‘ 1995 cut “Soon As I Get Home”, which you can hear the classic lyrics written by Sean “Puffy” Combs, Carl Thomas and Faith herself, throughout the chorus of the song. Castro also currently has a collaborative tune with Sevyn Streeter & YG entitled “That Shit Go (Up-Down), produced by Polow Da Don.

Recently, the up and coming Las Vegas talent stopped by Stuff Fly People Like‘s very own, SFPL TV to talk about his upcoming debut EP You Executive Produced by Timbaland, his forthcoming mixtape Songs You Were Made To, wanting to work with Quincy Jones, Kehlani and Meelah (formally of 702) and also speaks on the phrase “R&B is dead,” which seems to be a verbal term that is used due to the disappointment of Soul music. In the midst of the interview, Castro also performed the Ready For The World classic, “Love You Down” LIVE.

About Timbaland he says:

Ah man, it was an outer-earth experience man…he’s an alien! That’s what I call him! He’s great, he’s inspiring, and he just really knows how to really elevate one’s prospective, especially on their approach to music.

About the term “R&B Is Dead”:

I think R&B is confused. I don’t think it’s dead, I just think it’s confused. I think that because Hip-Hop is so dominant that the R&B guys are trying to figure out a way…(as he pause, sighs and thinks of the right words to say)…….It’s like this, I feel like R&B now is “Rap-Melod'” — it’s rap lyrics sung over R&B melodies. You know what I mean? Which, takes away from the essence of R&B. The true core of R&B. That’s what I feel about it — I just think it’s confused.
