oviegoers were treated to an awesome surprise this past Saturday, September 10th, at the Baldwin Hills Theater in Los Angeles. Folks who went to see the thriller, When The Bough Breaks were surprised by the film’s two stars Morris Chestnut and Regina Hall.
Regina and Morris handed out popcorn and drinks to guest and of course posed for pics and took selfies with moviegoers who were ecstatic to see them there to help celebrate the films release. They also went into theaters to greet people who were about to watch the film as well.
It looks like all that hard work and press Regina, Morris and Jaz Sinclairhave been doing is paying off. The film finished in a strong second behind Sully, earning a respectable $15 million at the weekend box office. When The Bough Breaks is in theaters now and if you haven’t seen it yet, grab your bae find where it’s playing and make it a date night. For more photos from that night, peep the gallery below:
What better way to end the week than to speak to two of our favorite Fly celebs, Regina Hall and Morris Chestnut. The talented duo stopped by SFPL TV to talk about their new film When The Bough Breaks, which is in theaters today!
In the movie, [slightly based on a true story] both Regina and Morris play a successful married couple, “John & Laura Taylor” who wants to have child but runs into some medical issues, therefore, seeking other options and needing a surrogate, which they found by the name of “Anna” (Jaz Sinclair). But unfortunately, things take a turn for the worse as the wanted lullaby life collides with a crush of psychoticism.
Also, Co-Creator/Editor of SFPL, Gabriel Williams advised Regina during the interview that she has been quite the social media star since a certain meme video has surfaced of her playing the past Scary Movie character of “Brenda,” but has been revamped of her watching Beyonce’s Lemonade film. Surprisingly, she never saw the clip and could not stop laughing.
az Sinclair is a newcomer to Hollywood, but the young 22-year-old Dallas native is looking to become a household name and she looks to be the right track. The young starlet looks to wow movie-goers this weekend when the thriller When The Bough Breaks hits theaters.
In the movie Sinclair plays a surrogate named Anna who has been hired by a young married couple John Taylor (Morris Chestnut) and Lara (Regina Hall). Everything seems perfect till Anna becomes dangerously obsessed with John and now he must protect his family from her. In her cover story with Rolling Out Magazine, Sinclair spoke on a multitude of topics.
Jaz on how she landed the role of Anna:
It was a multi-step process. I went in for the audition and they had me do four scenes from the story so they could feel if I could play both: the innocent Anna and the intense Anna.
I went to a couple meetings, sent in an audition tape while I was filming Paper Towns, met the director and he told me later that during our meeting that he didn’t think I would get the role because he thought I was too sweet. Then we had a conversation about Anna and something in my eyes changed that kind of scared him and that’s when he knew I could do it.
How she knew the role was perfect for her:
It’s strange. If I had looked at it on paper without putting it on its feet, I never would have thought “me” for this role. For so many reasons, I just would not have thought this would be my role. When I was auditioning, it just came through me. And something just clicked. I understood her. She made sense to me. And I cared about her. I read the script and the same thing happened. It was like the script was speaking to me and I just knew I was supposed to play this role.
Jaz on working with Morris Chestnut and Regina Hall:
It was great. He is great. He is such a gentleman and a kind person, and an amazing actor. He made me feel so safe and comfortable. There were some tense parts in the film and potentially uncomfortable scenes if you don’t trust your co-star. I felt so respected and inspired by him.
And then Regina [Hall] is such a talented actress. Watching her work and the variety and the layers that she brings for every scene, she was able to do so many versions and they were all so beautiful.
To read the rest of the interview head to over to Rolling Outright now, and be sure to head to the theaters September 9th to see Jaz in When The Bough Breaks and see how #ItAllWentWrong.

It’s time to head back to Calvin’s for a fresh-cut and hilarious banter in BarberShop: The Next Cut. Ice Cube, Cedric the Entertainer,Eve and Anthony Anderson return along with newcomers to the franchise Common, Nicki Minaj, Regina Hall, J.B. Smoove, Margot Bingham and Lamorne Morris.
It’s been 10 plus years since we last visited the iconic barbershop located on the South Side of Chicago. The once male dominated sanctuary is now a unisex salon headed by Angie (Regina Hall) who is Calvin’s business partner. Calvin’s motley crew of barbers consist of old man Eddie (Cedric the Entertainer), Rashad (Common), Jerrod (Lamorne Morris), Raja (Utkarsh Ambudkar), Terri (Eve) and man of many occupations One-Stop (JB Smoove).
Angie leads of a group of feisty hair technicians, Draya (Nicki Minaj), and Bree (Margot Bingham). The new dynamic in the shop makes for some interesting banter between the opposite sexes as they comically debate topics such as Obama, Instagram Ho’s, and today’s vernacular such as term “on fleek” which Eddie makes light of.
Things also do get serious in the Malcolm D.Lee directed film when the topics of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner and other recent issues affecting black communities are brought up. Calvin’s is now in the safe-haven of the neighborhood thanks to a new political measure introduced and backed by former Barber now politician Jimmy (Sean Patrick Thomas) to help counteract all of the gang violence going on in the neighborhood. Jimmy’s idea isn’t met with the acceptance he would like leading to the barbers coming up with the idea to for the barbershop to become a safe-zone for 48hrs initiating a truce between rival gangs. Anyone who visits the shop during that time gets free haircuts or their hair did. Jerrod gets a hashtag going on Twitter to help spread the word about the ceasefire and helps get things in motion.
The main story in the film revolves around Calvin and his son Jalen (Michael Rainy Jr.) and Calvin doing whatever it takes to keep his son out of trouble. Jalen becomes friends with Kenny who is the son Rashad and the two get involved with a local gang ran by Yummy (Tyga) don’t ask us why a gang leader’s name is Yummy. Calvin and his wife can’t believe their son’s recent behavior is of his own accord after Jalen gets in trouble at school. Calvin immediately feels that Jalen’s behavior is the direct result of hanging out with Kenny who is a known troublemaker and recently moved in with his dad Rashad and step-mom Terri. Calvin’s accusations lead to a rift between him and Rashad, Calvin fearing for his son’s life decides to look for a shop in a safer neighborhood leaving the rest of his employees to figure it out for themselves.
Rashad is also dealing with some family issues as well. Terri is now a celebrity stylist and her work keeps her very busy and keeps her from being home with Rashad.
The tension between the two is noticed by Draya who looks step in and make things interesting for Rashad. This sets up an interesting dynamic between the two leading ladies of hip-hop in the film.
Thanks to writers Kenya Barrish (black-ish) and Tracy Oliver, The Next Cut perfectly blends laugh out loud moments with serious tones. We do wish Nicki’s character was bit more stronger but she does make the most of her screen-time when she gets it. Regina Hall does a masterful job as Calvin’s business partner and shines when things get serious in the film. Common and Cube work well together in the film and of course Cedric shines as Eddie supplying much of the films comic relief.
Barbershop: The Next Cut is the perfect film for the family to go see as a whole or great option for date night.
