Essence Festival: FORD rocks out with Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith& more

Ford Motor Company celebrated the July Fourth weekend in New Orleans as part of the annual ESSENCE Festival®. As an exclusive automotive sponsor for the ninth consecutive year, Ford provided attendees the opportunity to get up close and personal with its latest lineup of vehicles, including the all-new 2018 Ford Expedition and 2018 Ford F-150.

ESSENCE Festival delivered a star-studded lineup this year, with Ford hosting the most exciting and chart-topping talent at the Superdome lounge and at the Ford booth all festival weekend. Legendary singer Chaka Khan debuted the world premiere of her latest single during her live interview with SiriusXM from the Ford booth at Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. The cast of Girls Trip including Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, Regina Hall, Larenz Tate and Tiffany Haddish were also spotted onstage at the Ford booth.

R&B singer’s Tank, India Arie and Elle Varner graced the Ford booth stage, as well as Empire, stars Bryshere Y. Gray and Ta’Rhonda Jones. Joseph Sikora also stopped by for an interview.

Festival-goers had the opportunity to register to test drive the newest vehicles in the Ford lineup, including the 2017 Ford Explorer, 2017 Ford Escape, and 2017 Ford Fusion. One lucky registrant was presented keys to a brand-new 2018 Ford Mustang on Sunday by comedienne and daytime talk show host Loni Love and Raj Register, Ford Multicultural Communications Manager.

Essence Fest: ‘Girls Trip’ VIP Screening Brings Out the Stars

During this year’s Essence Festival, Hello Beautiful, in partnership with Nissan and Universal Pictures, hosted a VIP red carpet screening for the new film GIRLS TRIP. Attending from the cast was Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, Regina Hall, Tiffany Haddish, Larenz Tate and Kofi Siriboe; director Malcolm Lee and producer Will Packer introduced the film. Hello Beautiful editors Allison McGevna, Shamika Sanders and Keyaira Kelly were also on hand to welcome guests.

When four lifelong friends—Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith and Tiffany Haddish—travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival, sisterhoods are rekindled, wild sides are rediscovered, and there’s enough dancing, drinking, brawling and romancing to make the Big Easy blush. Four life-long friends decide to take a trip to New Orleans and tackle Essence’s popular annual festival. Jada Pinkett-Smith, Queen Latifah, Regina Hall and Tiffany Haddish star in the Malcom D.Smith (The Best Man franchise, Barbershop: The Next Cut) comedy presented and produced by Will Packer (Think Like Man, Almost Christmas, Ride Along).

The ladies look to rediscover their friendship all the while drinking, dancing, brawling and of course find love in the big easy. The film also stars Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Kofi Siriboe (Queen Sugar) & Larenz Tate (Love Jones) so there is plenty of eye candy for the ladies in the film as well. The Doughboy Project Debuts “Open” feat. Alus, ‘The Introduction’ Coming Soon [New Music]

There are few people in New Jersey that have touched more genres of music than DJ Doughboy. In addition to producing-writing-remixing house music, writing Hip-Hop & R&B for Queen Latifah, being a tour DJ for Joe Budden, and producing for Love & Hip-Hop star DJ Self, Doughboy is also one of the founding fathers of “Jersey Club Music.”

He recently teamed up with Smack Productions/Water Music Publishing and together they’re releasing The Doughboy Project. “Open” is the first single off the project which is officially called The Introduction. The song features vocals from New Jersey’s own singer/songstress Alus and has already become a club hit. Between the melodies and the groove you can’t lose with a formula like that. Welcome to ‘The Doughboy Project.’

The Black community is still reeling from the tragic murders of Philando Castille and Alton Sterling at the hands of police. Many have taken to the streets and social media to protest, voice their opinions, and demand a change.

Mic along with a plethora of actors and musicians that include Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Bono, Chance The Rapper, Chris Rock, Common, Pink, Janelle Monáe, Kevin Hart, Rihanna, Taraji P. Henson, Queen Latifah, Rosario Dawson, Swizz Beatz, Talib Kweli, Lenny Kravitz, Zoe Kravitz, A$AP Rocky, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Jennifer Hudson, Adam Levine, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Maxwell have teamed up for PSA titled “23 Ways.” The PSA aims to shed light on the non-stop brutality and countless murders of POC at the hands of the police; simply for doing things most wouldn’t think twice about like walking home with a friend, trying to get help, and making eye contact.

Each harrowing account of the the men, women, and children of color who have been murdered by police, serves as a painful reminder of the deep rooted and systematic racism still prevalent in society today. Watch the PSA in it’s entirety below.

An unconvinced Charlie takes the bet because he believes that he’s immune to love, until he crosses paths with the beautiful and mysterious “Eva” (Cassie Ventura). Charlie is sure that he will win the bet and prove his friends and sister wrong, so he rises to the occasion and takes on the challenge. Turning on his irresistible charm, Charlie coaxes Eva into a casual affair, but soon finds out that Eva has turned the tables on him. Unsure of what to think or how to feel, he finds himself trying to navigate in a foreign territory. Now, Charlie is left questioning whether he may actually want more than just a one-night stand.

Last Night In L.A.: Solange Shines at Bessie’s 81 Theatre Tour with An Explosive Performance

Thursday night marked the end of Bessie’s 81 Theatre Tour, which kicked off April 28 in NYC. The tour celebrates HBO’s new film Bessie, which chronicles the life of late blues singer Bessie Smith. The film airs on 5/16 on HBO; Bessie will be played by Queen Latifah. Following its three-day New York takeover (which ended with a surprise performance from Janelle Monae), the tour headed West to Los Angeles for a second set of events.

May 12th marked the launch of the 81 Theatre Tour’s LA leg. The West Coast portion kicked off with a media-only brunch on the 12th, and concluded with a surprise performance on May 14th from none other than singer and Saint Records founder Solange. As Solo hit the stage, the vibrant star performed a series of her past cuts from 2012 EP, True, her hit track”Losing You,” and debuted a new song in honor of Ferguson, Baltimore, Missouri and Maryland entitled “Rise.”
