#GrammyWeekend: TV One’s 48th Annual Image Awards Brings Out Star Power

TV One’s stars of television and film shined brightly at the 48TH NAACP Image Awards, hosted by Anthony Anderson, which aired on the network. Among this year’s award honorees, TV One’s morning news host, Roland Martin, received an Award for Outstanding Host in a News, Talk, Reality, or Variety Program.

An encore presentation of the show will air on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 4 p.m. EST and 12 a.m. EST. The show will air in syndication February 19 – March 5. Check your local listings for show times.

The evening began with the live pre-show from the red carpet, hosted by Nischelle Turner and Terrence Jenkins with special correspondents Tai Beauchamp and Chris Spencer.  The casts of TV One’s upcoming original films, “MEDIA” (Brian WhitePenny Johnson JeraldPooch HallChrystee PharrisBlue KimbleDenise BoutteStelio SavanteFinesse Mitchell and Jillian Reeves) and “Hit A Lick” (Tasha SmithLil Mama and Lance Gross) were in attendance. Additionally, Justice By Any Means host Malik Yoba made an appearance, and David and Tamela Mann walked the carpet to announce their new TV One show, The Manns.

The two-hour live special did not disappoint as the best of Black Hollywood turned out to celebrate. Immediately following, guests joined TV One, in partnership with Ford Motor Company and Creative Artists Agency (CAA), at an exclusive after party held at the W Hotel in Hollywood. Radio One Founder and Chairperson Cathy Hughes welcomed the crowd, followed by a special performance by R&B vocalist Faith Evans.

The channel’s upcoming original film, MEDIA (full cast above) premieres on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 8 p.m. ET. The much-anticipated series is directed by Craig Ross, Jr. and executive produced by Cathy Hughes, Susan Banks, Kevin Arkadie, and Sheila Ducksworth.

In a world of social media and technology, a married couple with serious marital problems has reached the peak of conflict when Omar (played by Pooch Hall) becomes distracted with a constant need to check his phone and social media notifications. Carmen (played by Gabrielle Dennis) is fed up with her husband’s obsession and is ready to call it quits unless Omar gives her the proper attention she desires.

“I want this film to save families due to overuse of electronic devices and social media,” says Mark Harris, Director of My First Love.

Directed by Derek Blanks, inspiration from the hit television series: Scandal, definitely comes into play in Faith Evans newest visual entitled “Fragile.” In the video, Faith plays “First Lady” to actor Pooch Hall, who holds down the fork as President of the United States. With Infidelity in tow, Faith pulls out her inner Mellie Grant character, and smiles like everything is ok, when truthfully, the President is having quite the affair with a female staff member.
