New Music Feature: Lion Babe – “Hit The Ceiling”

Today, New York-based duo LION BABE have shared their latest song, “Hit The Ceiling.” Produced by the band’s own Astro Raw – aka Lucas Goodman – the track is LION BABE at their most essential. Mixing funk, soul, electronics and singer Jillian Hervey’s signature sultry vocals, the song arrives just in time for the start of Summer.

“Hit The Ceiling” is the latest song to be offered from LION BABE’s forthcoming new project, which is set for release later in 2017. Earlier this year, the band shared the first taste of the project via the funk jam “Rockets” featuring Moe Moks, which received its first look on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 program. The forthcoming project will be the first studio release from LION BABE since their 2016 debut album, Begin. That album, which was released amid a wave of acclaim and attention, featured the career-defining singles “Jump Hi” and “Treat Me Like Fire,” and found the duo collaborating with the likes of Pharrell Williams and Childish Gambino. Last summer, the duo released the sun-kissed mixtape Sun Joint, which coincided with their first headline US tour and a string of international festival performances, including Glastonbury, ESSENCE, Afropunk, Reading & Leeds and more.

Recently, LION BABE’s Astro Raw shared his debut mixtape project, rawmix vol 1. The 14-track project mixes Astro Raw’s stellar, one-of-a-kind production with his infectious, genre-defying sounds, seamlessly mixing R&B, hip-hop, soul, funk and dance. It’s a sound that The 405 described as “sonic crack.” To listen to rawmix vol. 1, click here.

[ione_embed src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/t5HMQ-fCzhA service=youtube width=854 height=480 type=iframe]

Recently, singer-songwriter and musician, Cris Cab, released his new music video for “Turn Out the Light” featuring Latin superstar recording artist, J. Balvin, exclusively with Uforia Music. The stunning visual was filmed in Medellín, Columbia and directed by Johnathan Mannion, who has worked with high profile artists such as Jay Z, Dr. Dre, Aaliyah, Outkast, Nas, Nicki Minaj and Kendrick Lamar.

Cris Cab tells Uforia Music:

“I created it a year ago, in California… When I showed the song to Pharrell, he loved it, and he said to me: ‘Since you are of Cuban origin, you should think about adding Spanish to your lyrics, maybe a little bit at first. I will introduce you to someone who will give you a lot of flavor.’ There I went to the Los Angeles studio and it was where I was introduced to J”.

“Turn Out the Light” is the first single from Cris Cab’s forthcoming Pharrell Williams executive produced album, New Beginningswhich is slated for release later this year. The upcoming album is set to explore all of the variations reggae music has had to offer the world. From 80’s UK pop, vintage Jamaican roots, Caribbean dancehall to Latin Reggaton. Cris effortlessly uses all of these styles with his own flavor and seamlessly incorporates them into a modern sound with a Universal message.  The project holds songs made with heavy weight producers like Pharrell Williams, Jerry Wonder, and Dallas Austin, with many unexpected surprise features.

“The family is happy and healthy,” a rep for The Voice coach told TODAY.

As of now, there are no other deets following the great news that made its waves throughout the internet this morning.

Currently, Williams has been creating quite a buzz around the historic film Hidden Figures which has been receiving accolades from the Golden Globes, SAG Awards and more.

The iconic creative has also shown his concern over Trump’s recent #MuslimBan as he took his feelings to Twitter.

Always promoting “unity” within his brand, it is clear that Skateboard P is not here for Donald Trump’s shenanigans.

Pharrell Appears On ‘Ellen’, Speaks On Kim Burrell’s Homophobic Rant [Video]

Pharrell speaks and he was very stern about what he says.

The cat is finally out of the bag as Pharrell Williams spoke live with Ellen Degeneres on the most controversial topic of the week. In case you missed, Gospel Singer, Kim Burrell was caught on tape delivering a sermon at her home church and, during the recording the “I See Victory” singer of the movie soundtrack Hidden Figures went on a homophobic rant, condemning the gay community to hell; saying that they will die in 2017.

Many took their thoughts to social media like Janelle Monae, Octavia Spencer, Yolanda Adams, Frank Ocean‘s Mom, Katonya Breaux [who wanted Kim’s vocals removed from her son’s song], Pharrell himself and more.

Burrell blatantly said:

I came to tell you about sin. That sin nature… That perverted homosexual spirit, and the spirit of delusion and confusion, it has deceived many men and women… You as a man, you open your mouth and take a man’s penis in your face, you are perverted. You are a woman and will shake your face in another woman’s breast, you are perverted.

Set to appear on The Ellen Show on Jan. 5 (today), Kim was scheduled to hit the stage with Williams but was then dropped off the show due to her statement, which is now being referred to as the “hate speech.”

Ellen said right before asking Pharrell on his thoughts:

“I didn’t feel like that was good of me to have her on the show to give her a platform after she’s saying things about me.”

While saying the above, Ellen had the straightest face possible as she meant everything single word of what was said.

Pharrell spoke on the issue at hand saying:

“There’s no space, there’s no room for any kind of prejudice in 2017 or moving on. She’s a fantastic singer and I love her, just like I love everybody else. We all gotta get used to that. We all have to get used to everyone’s differences and understand that this is a big, gigantic, beautiful, colorful world, and it only works with inclusion and empathy. It only works that way.”

He continued saying:

“Whenever you hear some sort of hate speech and you feel like it doesn’t necessarily pertain to you because you may not have anything to do with that, all you gotta do is put the word black in that sentence, or put gay in that sentence, or put transgender in that sentence, or put white in that sentence, and all of a sudden, it starts to make sense to you. I’m telling you, the world is a beautiful place but it does not work without empathy and inclusion. God is love. This Universe is love and that’s the only way it will function. And I get it, that sometimes some of the divisive stuff works in life. We learned that lesson last year that sometimes divisiveness works, but you have to choose what side you’re on. I’m choosing empathy, I’m choosing inclusion, I’m choosing love for everybody just trying to lift everyone. Even when I disagree with someone, I’m wishing them the best and hoping for the best because we can’t win the other way.”

This is an unfortunate situation for Burrell as she is admired by many, especially in the mainstream music industry. But her rant affected many and it’s hard to say at this point how she will recover from the tragic end.
