Michael Jackson’s ‘Off the Wall’ Rerelease Will Include Spike Lee Documentary


Michael Jackson’s estate is gearing up for the rerelease of the late singer’s classic album Off the Wall. The release will feature Spike Lee’s new documentary Michael Jackson’s Journey from Motown to Off the Wall. Slated for release on February 26th via Sony Legacy Recordings it will be made available in CD/DVD and CD/Blu-Ray combo options.

‘Michael Jackson’s Journey from Motown to Off the Wall’ premieres January 24th at the Sundance Film Festival. Its TV debut is set for February 5th at 9 p.m. on Showtime through their on-air, on-demand, and online platforms. Following its TV debut it will be broadcast in territories all over the world.

The documentary explores Jackson’s career from child star to the debut of his iconic ‘Off the Wall’ album. It features footage from the musician’s personal stash, interviews with family members and some of today’s musical influencers.

In a statement regarding the project it is described as,

“A look at a chapter of his career that is rarely examined, Michael Jackson’s Journey from Motown to Off the Wall allows audiences to travel with Michael as he gets his start at Motown, strikes a new path with CBS Records and forges a relationship with legendary producer Quincy Jones.”

Pharrell Williams, John Legend, Questlove, Mark Ronson, the Weeknd, Marlon Jackson, Lee Daniels and L.A. Reid make appearances discussing the late icon’s influence and the album’s legacy. ‘Off the Wall’ was Jackson’s adult solo breakthrough album. Combining the elements of funk, pop, disco, and jazz it’s gone on to stand the test of time and earn a place in music as one of the best albums of all time.
