Fly Friend of SFPL, Rapper A$AP Ferg graced the SFPL TV studio with his presence to talk about his new forthcoming album Always Strive and Prosper, once working for Ben & Jerry’s, his new Trap Lord x Adi-ease collaboration with Adidas, meeting Missy Elliot through Timbaland for the very first time and now having her apart of his new project, working with Madonna and much more.
About being fired from Ben & Jerry’s:
My boy Benson was the manager at the time. I don’t know if the boss knew at the time, but I didn’t sign no application or nothing. I just walked in one day, put a ice cream shirt on and got to work — start to scooping [he laughs]. I was probably giving people extra scoops and they didn’t even know — I started figuring it out later what to do, but I didn’t take no training or nothing. I got paid and everything, but it wasn’t the place for me because I felt like i’m going to use this as a stepping stone — this is only for right now, but I wasn’t really taking the job serious.
Ferg says being fired made him realize that he will never let anyone be in charge of his destiny, nor allow it in anyone else’s hands again. So, he thanked his boss for firing him at the time and for the irony of it, he did an entire photoshoot right inside of the B&J location where he was once fired.
Now, that Missy is back in our radio frequency, as she never left, Mitty pays homage to the veteran artist and gives us yet another glimpse of what she’s capable of, musically. Bars anyone? Yes, Lee Mitty will provide that for you!
East New York (Brooklyn) native, Billy B, releases her latest single produced by Kyle Justice. “Supa Fly” boasts a classic Missy Elliot sample over a bass-heavy production.
Billy’s delivery and lyrical content have undeniably evolved over these past few years. Her growth and maturity are evident in her new found confidence on the mic. Billy B isn’t just “stunting” on her new record, she’s solidifying her validity in a male dominated industry.
The single also serves as the follow-up to her Skeme-assisted single, “Gettin Mine.”

In case you missed it, check out her latest video “Gettin Mine”, which was premiered by Complex last October:
About Billy B
Jahdira Atkins, better known as Billy B, is the newest female MC out of Brooklyn. While she is still the “new kid on the block,” Billy B has a couple notable projects under her belt. She was featured on 40Thousand’s “Digital Cocaine” mixtape, collaborated with Chicago’s Swagg Dinero and was featured on Loot Clothing’s street mixtape. This past August, Billy released her debut project, “Buck 50.”
When asked how she would describe her music: “It’s sexy, hardcore rap. I owe my “rawness” to the streets of East New York and Flatbush. I’m that pretty girl from the hood who raps (good), you know?”
Monica and Missy Elliot are back in collab-action with the new title track Code Red, which is Monica long-awaited album set to drop on Dec. 18th. The dance track also features Monica’s baby girl Laiyah, sounding just adorable as she looks!
The Polow Da Don-produced song touches on the current state of music that consistently plays on the radio, artists that are trying to crossover, and record labels plummeting, which overall; music no longer has any substance according to Monica and Missy. On that note, just turn the radio off, both exclaims.
Missy’s lyrics are as follows:
I does what I does, do what I do
Your hustle the same to me, here’s something new
We tired of that junk that you sing in the booth
You know we the truth, let me give you this proof
Call 911, better ring the alarm
When this come on they be droppin’ them bombs
We tired of hearin’ them same old five songs
Man I’ve just been wanting to turn that ish off
I swear the game might be over
Somebody give them some Folger’s
Cause you can’t be sleepin’ on Mono
And you can’t see me with no photo
I’m tryna change up the world
I’m focused on my baby girl
And even though she only one
She know you ain’t talkin’ about nothin’

Back like she never left! Missy Elliot is finally here with her most-anticipated visual in years. The always, so trendy, so current, singer-rapper-songwriter-producer links with old-time friend, Dave Myers and directs the most epic video of 2015 for the new single “WTF” featuring Pharrell Williams.
In the visual, Missy reminds us why we were in love with her past videos, as she reenergizes her effortless but yet, classic scenes with heavy props, stylish and matchless clothing choices, paired with the best choreography; not to mention, a sprinkle of the dancing duo, the Les Twins. Pharrell didn’t quite make the visual but his soul was still in tact as a marionette, capped with his signature pageboy hat, with a “Missy marionette” dancing alongside him.
Just check below to see why we are so hyped about this:
Legendary producer and artist, Timbaland, today dropped “Them Jeans” featuring Migos in anticipation of his upcoming album TextBook Timbo. This will mark Timbaland’s fourth solo album under his own label Mosley Music Group, a joint venture with Epic Records.
His first album release since 2009, the concept of TextBook Timbo, takes it back to the beginning – to the roots of what Timbaland is known and recognized for in a textbook style album. The project features a heavy-hitting line up of industry favorites including: Future, Justin Timberlake, Migos, Jay-Z, Missy Elliot, Drake and Lil Wayne.
“This project has been a long time coming and I am excited to give my fans something new and dope to look forward to. I’ve got a lot of new talented artists involved in this project, we’ve created something really special.”
With the current growth of the first single “UFO,” featuring Future and Tink, the album continues to build momentum as it heads towards its official drop within the coming months. Similarly, the current single “Smile” featuring V.Bozeman off of Timbaland’s album Opera Noir dropping at the top of 2016, has only added to the anticipation of both projects on the horizon. V.Bozeman from the TV show EMPIRE that Timbaland is the music Executive Producer for is featured on every song on Opera Noir.
After a very long music hiatus, our favorite songbird is back and ready to deliver!
Singer/Songwriter Tweet, stopped by Stuff Fly People Like‘s premiere of Fly Acoustics, a music series where artists get personal, share past & present experiences, all while presenting new music, and delivering a LIVE acoustic performance to media conglomerates and fans on-site.
While kicking the segment off, Tweet spoke on why she took time off:
I have been preparing myself for this moment, just getting myself together spiritually after the second album didn’t go too well — I decided to take a break and kinda get my life spiritually together. So, in that I rededicated myself to Christ — so he would orchestrate everything that’s happening now. And, I also signed to a couple of labels, and it just didn’t work out.
Since her last 2005 album, It’s Me Again, Tweet followed up with a new EP 8-years later entitled Simply Tweet.
Tweet’s new forthcoming album Charlene (Jan. 2016) gives us a journey through her written diary, sharing the up and downs of life, and what she was going through within the hiatus.
Tweet also talks about wanting to get back to “real soul music,” that makes you think, that speaks of liberation for women, and just simply that “good feeling.” She even speaks of perhaps doing a full Gospel album one day, per request from her aunt, Juanita before she passed away.
Check out the FULL visual of our very own, ‘Fly Acoustics’ below with a special performance from Tweet of new single “Won’t Hurt Me”:

We’d like to thank Tweet for kicking off ‘Fly Acoustics’ for us! It was an amazing moment!
After a long 10 year hiatus, singer-songwriter Tweet is back with a new track entitled “Won’t Hurt Me.” The original songbird herself holds down the music fork of acoustic and percussion greatness, as if she never left.
Under her new home of eOne Entertainment, Tweet is currently prepping her third studio album which Missy Elliot and Timbaland will be apart of and more.

Team SFPL was on-hand to get exclusive coverage of the entire weekend just inches away from the stage:
Towards the bitter end of Elliot’s set, it seems as her time was up, once her mic was completely turned off following the lights on stage. Leaving, singer Monica behind the curtains as she was about to step out, as the surprise guest.
Missy then proceeded to pull the singer by her hand, as she waved to crowd in the dark. It’s unfortunate that it happened so prematurely, but eventually Missy was brought back on-stage after Usher‘s set with the Essence crew giving a public apology for the mishap.
Later, ME attended the Wind And Grind afterparty presented by Saint Heron & Ciroc, hosted by Solange Knowles featuring the Missy Appreciation Hour with a special surprise tribute performance. Kelly Rowland, Beyonce and Jay Z were in the building for the festivities.
Singer Tweet was on-hand to take the party-goers down memory lane! It was such a great time!
Kendrick Lamar closed out this year’s Essence Fest in a major way! Covering his hit songs like; “Alright”, “King Kunta”, “The Blacker the Berry” and more. Lamar gave attendees a real live visual of his latest chart-topping album To Pimp A Butterfly.

As he entered, you couldn’t help but see his new pair of the Yeezy Boost 350‘s!
The incomparable Mary J. Blige put on one HELL of a performance! Dip in red and later changing into all black jumpsuit, Mary delivered her music catalog of hits, and it was a site to see!
