Last Night In NYC: Verizon & 300 Entertainment’s #Freestyle50 Challenge Event with Kevin Liles, London On Da Track & more

kevin-liles-and-london-on-the-track

Freestyle. The pulse of hip hop culture that fuels creativity, freedom and lyrical skill. In the beginning, freestyling refined the art of lyricism. Today, it takes on a new meaning, defining the way in which we pioneer our way through life. Freely, boldly and without boundaries.

To honor this movement, Verizon partnered with 300 Entertainment to find the nation’s best freestyle lyricist with the launch of the #Freestyle50 challenge. To celebrate, both companies kicked things off with a celebration for the new series that included special invited guests, artists, media, and industry tastemakers.

Hosted by LowKey of YouHeardThatNew.com and Beats1, Key Hosts Kevin Liles (300 Entertainment Co-Founder and music executive) & London on da Track (Music Producer and Songwriter), guests with performances included: Power 105.1‘s The Breakfast Club host, DJ Envy, along with A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Dave East, Astro, Casanova, Maino, plus more.

Attendees were treated to light bites at NYC’s own Espace paired with specialty cocktails and music by DJ Envy.

The national competition will award seven aspiring artists the gig of a lifetime as opening acts across upcoming 300 Entertainment’s artist tours. They will then compete in a live, freestyle cypher event in Atlanta for a chance to win the grand prize of a single deal with 300 Entertainment and a cash prize of $10,000.

The #Freestyle50 challenge is providing a platform for up-and-coming artists to not only showcase their talents, but celebrate themselves and build upon their careers. Verizon and 300 Entertainment are encouraging people to freestyle about who they represent and how they are shaping and navigating culture – freestyling their way through life.

The #Freestyle50 challenge was inspired by Verizon’s 7GB for $50 prepaid offer exclusively at Walmart for a limited time.

Instructions: To enter, share a video on Twitter or Instagram freestyling to the instrumental of “Spend It” by Dae Dae using hashtag #freestyle50challenge and tagging @Verizon.

Troy Ave Arrested and Charged In Deadly Irving Plaza Shooting Following ID In Surveillance Video

Brooklyn rapper Troy Ave has been arrested in connection with the shooting that took place last night at New York City’s Irving Plaza during a T.I. concert. Three people were wounded with one of the wounded succumbing to his injuries.

The NY Daily News reports:

“An up and coming rapper from Brooklyn with a beef was charged Thursday with opening fire backstage at Irving Plaza during a T.I. concert, killing one and wounding two others, police sources said.

Troy Ave, of Brownsville, accidentally shot himself during the chaos in the leg, sources said. He was charged with reckless endangerment and illegal weapons possession, according to sources.

Troy, who was to perform at the show, had a beef with Maino, who had just left the stage when at least five shots rang out, sources said.

“There is clear video, very graphic video. He walks right out, women all around, and starts shooting his gun,” a source said.”

The fatal shooting victim was Ronald McPhatter an affiliate of Ave’s B$B Banga and his bodyguard. McPhatter and Ave were apparently close and at this time it is unclear why Ave shot him. The victims mother criticized the Brownsville rapper for not reaching out following her son’s death.

“He actually cared a lot about Troy Ave. My wish is that Troy Ave cared as much about my son as he cared about him. I say that because I watched how my son would always bend over backwards to help him. If he [Troy Ave] cared about my son as much as he alleged he does, I would’ve received a call from him. He didn’t call me. He didn’t call any of my other sons.”

According to Police they were waiting on ballistics report before charging Ave real name Rolland Collins with murder. Collins was arrested at NYU Langone Medical Center. Surveillance footage shows Collins running into the green room and immediately start shooting. You can watch the graphic video below at your discretion.

We send our condolences to the family of Ronald McPhatter and our prayers to the families of the other shooting victims. You can read the NY Daily News complete coverage of the incident here.

After being spotted at Kanye‘s Yeezy Season 3 listening/show via MSG, Lil Kim kicks out a new remix of “Panda”, a new trending track by G.O.O.D. Music‘s new signee Desiigner. Tagging onto the remix is Brooklyn’s own, rapper Maino who assists with a few bars naming himself  “the king of the streets.”

Kim of course, comes with a few tricky lines like:

I got killers in Belize
I got n*ggas in the league
NBA NHL MLB
Watch how I blow off the Hennessy

Two straps like a backpack
Back2Back like Drake rap
Drive the ‘Rrari like I’m on a race track

Eat the booty like zucchini
