Pusha T, the Grammy®-nominated, multi-platinum artist and producer, and a key architect of today’s post-modern hip-hop/pop universe, has been appointed president, G.O.O.D. Music, it was announced today by label founder Kanye West.
Pusha recently spoke with Billboard about the G.O.O.D. News:
A big congratulations are in order. Just got word that you will be the president of G.O.O.D. Music. How was the offer presented you?
Actually, I was flying home and I had just got into my car at the airport. ‘Ye had called me and he was like, “Tell me something. What do you think about being the president of G.O.O.D. Music?” And I was like, “Well, what are the things that you’re looking for?” And he was basically just like, to manicure the label, make it profitable and be very business-oriented about it going forward in a manicured type of way.
In addition to his new role at G.O.O.D. Music, Pusha T is a co-founder(with his brother Gene “No Malice” Thornton) of Play Cloths, a successful Street wear line, and as an early investor in Mass Appeal. Pusha T is also a frequent collaborator with the adidas Originals brand, most recently taking part in the brand’s Spring / Summer ‘Superstar’ 2015 campaign.
In a perfect world, what would G.O.O.D. Music look like to you in the next five months?
I just look at capitalizing on everything that I feel like G.O.O.D. Music brings to the music industry, our following, and the culture. First of all, we have incredible artists. It’s definitely about getting those albums out in a very manicured fashion. We have great artistic talent that sort of walk the lines of bringing that excitement back in regards to just the art that goes along with it like DONDA, the merch and things like that. Things that kids are really into these days. You see how fashion takes over and these pop-up shops take over and how the music business is a real touring business now, just the things associated with it. Just building it out to make sure that everybody on the label is really capitalizing off of all the assets that really come with GOOD Music, that we really started, that we’ve really been good at. Just really executing all the different avenues of music, art, culture and fashion as well.
Since 2011, G.O.O.D. Music (Getting Out Our Dreams) has been signed to an exclusive worldwide label agreement with Def Jam Recordings, a division of Universal Music Group (UMG). G.O.O.D. Music is currently home to an acclaimed artist roster that includes Big Sean, Q-Tip, Teyana Taylor, Kacy Hill, and Pusha T himself, among others. G.O.O.D. Music has amassed scores of certified gold, platinum, and multi-platinum selling albums and singles.

In 2012, Pusha T took the lead on a number of tracks from Kanye West’s influential Cruel Summer album, most notably the #1 triple-platinum “Mercy” (with Big Sean and 2 Chainz). Pusha T has been featured on literally dozens of tracks by such artists as Lorde, Puffy Daddy, Jeezy, Future, The-Dream, Trey Songz, Rick Ross, Chris Brown and has become a sought after collaborator with EDM’s biggest names following the success of his track “Burial” with Yogi and Skrillex. Throughout 2015 Pusha T’s music has scored many of the biggest moments in film, television and commercials providing the soundtrack for everything from adidas campaigns to the VMAs. Pusha T’s 2013 debut solo album for G.O.O.D. Music, My Name Is My Name, entered the Billboard Hip-Hop Album Chart at #2.
Pusha T (born Terrence Thornton in the Bronx) emerged in the fertile hip-hop music scene centered in Virginia Beach, not far from where he grew up in Norfolk. In 1992, he and his brother Gene formed the much revered, platinum selling rap duo the Clipse.
