Pharrell Appears On ‘Ellen’, Speaks On Kim Burrell’s Homophobic Rant [Video]

Pharrell speaks and he was very stern about what he says.

The cat is finally out of the bag as Pharrell Williams spoke live with Ellen Degeneres on the most controversial topic of the week. In case you missed, Gospel Singer, Kim Burrell was caught on tape delivering a sermon at her home church and, during the recording the “I See Victory” singer of the movie soundtrack Hidden Figures went on a homophobic rant, condemning the gay community to hell; saying that they will die in 2017.

Many took their thoughts to social media like Janelle Monae, Octavia Spencer, Yolanda Adams, Frank Ocean‘s Mom, Katonya Breaux [who wanted Kim’s vocals removed from her son’s song], Pharrell himself and more.

Burrell blatantly said:

I came to tell you about sin. That sin nature… That perverted homosexual spirit, and the spirit of delusion and confusion, it has deceived many men and women… You as a man, you open your mouth and take a man’s penis in your face, you are perverted. You are a woman and will shake your face in another woman’s breast, you are perverted.

Set to appear on The Ellen Show on Jan. 5 (today), Kim was scheduled to hit the stage with Williams but was then dropped off the show due to her statement, which is now being referred to as the “hate speech.”

Ellen said right before asking Pharrell on his thoughts:

“I didn’t feel like that was good of me to have her on the show to give her a platform after she’s saying things about me.”

While saying the above, Ellen had the straightest face possible as she meant everything single word of what was said.

Pharrell spoke on the issue at hand saying:

“There’s no space, there’s no room for any kind of prejudice in 2017 or moving on. She’s a fantastic singer and I love her, just like I love everybody else. We all gotta get used to that. We all have to get used to everyone’s differences and understand that this is a big, gigantic, beautiful, colorful world, and it only works with inclusion and empathy. It only works that way.”

He continued saying:

“Whenever you hear some sort of hate speech and you feel like it doesn’t necessarily pertain to you because you may not have anything to do with that, all you gotta do is put the word black in that sentence, or put gay in that sentence, or put transgender in that sentence, or put white in that sentence, and all of a sudden, it starts to make sense to you. I’m telling you, the world is a beautiful place but it does not work without empathy and inclusion. God is love. This Universe is love and that’s the only way it will function. And I get it, that sometimes some of the divisive stuff works in life. We learned that lesson last year that sometimes divisiveness works, but you have to choose what side you’re on. I’m choosing empathy, I’m choosing inclusion, I’m choosing love for everybody just trying to lift everyone. Even when I disagree with someone, I’m wishing them the best and hoping for the best because we can’t win the other way.”

This is an unfortunate situation for Burrell as she is admired by many, especially in the mainstream music industry. But her rant affected many and it’s hard to say at this point how she will recover from the tragic end.

The Right Move: Janelle Monae Confirms Kim Burrell WILL NOT Be Performing On The Ellen Show!

* Update * Ellen DeGeneres has also confirmed that Kim Burrell will not be appearing on the show.

She’s out! Kim Burrell’s homophobic got the gospel singer officially removed from performing alongside Pharrell on The Ellen Show.

TMZ caught up with Janelle and asked her the million dollar question about Burrell performing and she confirmed that Burrell was indeed out.

“I don’t think she’s performing, she’s not performing! I am huge advocate for the other, and I don’t stand for any hate speech or anything that targets our fellow brothers and sisters in a negative way.”

The TMZ cameraman also asked if Burrell’s part on the song should be nixed? or if Janelle would ever perform with Burrell again? He got no reply on either question. Before the ax came down on Burrell’s performance both Pharrell and Janelle both spoke out issuing statements via social media about the issue.

It was definitely the right move to make as hateful rhetoric should not be tolerated at any cost. The Ellen Show has yet to respond on the situation. We hope Kim learns from her huge mistake. On a positive note Hidden Figures is in theaters January 6th, we got a chance to see the inspirational tale early and it’s absolutely amazing. Janelle, Taraji and Octavia were absolutely shined in the film, so make sure you and the family see that and start your new year off with some inspiration.

Today, multi-GRAMMY® Award-winning artist, songwriter, producer and music icon, Kirk Franklin, released his eleventh studio album LOSING MY RELIGION via Fo Yo Soul Recordings / RCA Records. Franklin’s highly anticipated album, ‘Losing My Religion’ boasts 13-soul-stirring tracks including the #1 lead single, “Wanna Be Happy?”. The single debuted at #1 on Billboard and broke the record previously set by Franklin with “I Smile (2011)” to become the best first-week digital single in gospel sales history.

The central message of ‘Losing My Religion’, which features guest artists, Kim Burrell, Tasha Cobbs, Zacardi Cortez, Lalah Hathaway, Tamela Mann, Tasha Page-Lockhart and Sarah Reeves, is for one to truly see and understand the most essential aspect of their faith, and that’s their relationship with God.

When asked what he hopes that listeners take away from the album, Franklin says:

“The most beautiful picture about the love of God is that my trying doesn’t replace my trusting…religion may point out what’s wrong, but it doesn’t give me the power to make it right. This album is the soundtrack to how love rescued me from the law”.

‘LMR’ offers the classic Kirk Franklin sound that has inspired so many people over the past 20+ years, but may be his most introspective work yet. The album is now available everywhere music is sold, including all major digital retailers.
