Essence Fest: Contemporary R&B Vocal Group June’s Diary Murders The Stage, Teases New Music

[ione_embed src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/eqSRg_gN3Xw service=youtube width=640 height=360 type=iframe]

In case you missed it, all-female contemporary R&B vocal group June’s Diary debuted their first full-choreographed show since forming by way of Kelly Rowland and Frank Gatson‘s Chasing Destiny reality talent search show in 2016, live at the 2017 Essence Festival in New Orleans on Sunday, July 2.

The quintet teases eager fans with full performances of the buzz singles “All of Us”, “Wrap Around”, “I Know Why You’re Calling” and “Good Time.” Their set also included impressive renditions of Beyoncé’s “Love On Top,” The Jackson 5‘s “I Wanna Be Where You Are,” Bruno Mars‘ “That’s What I Like,” and a jaw-dropping take on En Vogue‘s “Hold On.” Towards the end of the set, the ladies even brought out none other than Chante Moore for a duet of John Legend‘s “This Time.”

The group’s recently released cover of the classic Jodeci track “Stay” served as a teaser for the project, embodying the revival of the luring qualities of hit R&B groups from the pre-millennium decade – resonant vocals and infectious hooks, coupled with searing, rubbery, R&B bounce.

BET’s ‘Chasing Destiny’ Star, ASH. Releases New EP ‘Please Like Me’

ash-chasing-destiny

Recently, Chasing Destiny star, ASH. releases her second EP, Please Like Me. The project is an unapologetic desperate pursuit for love.

Each record: “Wrong Number,” “I Know Who,” “Please Like Me,” and “The Goodbye Song” represents that last-ditch effort that almost every girl has experienced when fighting for love or pursing a “going nowhere fast” relationship. While these narratives are not new to pop music, ASH. commits her full project to expressing the lengths she will to go for love.

Overall the sound of the music is expired by 70’s and 80’s pop. Recently, the songbird was one of the main cast members on BET‘s new hit show, Chasing Destiny, starring Kelly Rowland. The show is focused on Kelly (Destiny’s Child) and Frank Gatson (Beyonce’s Choreographer) finding the next big girl group.

Prior to this show, ASH. established her music career by working as Janelle Monae’s background singer for multiple years. Last year, she released her debut project, The Perfect EP.

Take a listen below.

Watch: The Ladies of BET’s ‘Chasing Destiny’ Sing Their Faces Off with the help of Vocal Coach Julian Sapp

julian-sapp-chasing-destiny

Passing the torch, Kelly Rowland is instilling into the new generation what she’s learned over the years through her new series Chasing Destiny, which airs on BET every Tuesday at 10P/9C.

Putting together what she hopes to be the next “Super Girl Group”, Rowland gets some assistance from the ultimate Creative Director, Frank Gatson Jr. and Vocal Coach, Julian Sapp.

Julian is known for offering his knowledge of vocals and instrumentation to some of the biggest music stars in the industry. He is also singer Luke James‘ Music Director and front Keyboardist.

In the clip provided, Sapp groups all of the ladies together around the piano, as they go through a series of songs in A cappella mode. And if you’ve been watching the show, you may be surprised on how polished all the contestants sound in this short video, compared to what’s been shown in full. It looks like Julian brought the spark out of them, and it’s just what they needed.

But now, it’s up to Kelly and her team to decide who stays, and who goes.

Fly Visual: Amen-Ra – “Finished”

amen-ra-finished

Known to have choreographed for many of your favorite artists (Mariah Carey, Jay-Z, Sting, Kelly Rowland and Trey Songz), Bam Bam moves over to the solo side of things as Amen-Ra, as he now expresses his art form as a singer-songwriter, paired with his heavy knowledge of the entertainment industry, along with his dance background.

“Finished” is his first official-single delivery from his new EP F.I.N.A.O. [Failure Is Not An Option], which is a complete radio ready, dance head-nodder. Recently, the artist-newcomer unleashed his new video just to give you a glimpse of what his new-found artistry is all about.

For my first EP, and intro to the world as an artist, it had to be explosive. So, I kept it short and sweet with six songs; all up-tempo, high energy, big production…”Finished,” “I Does This,” “Music Is My Drug,” “We Run This Party,” “On my Own Ish” and “Party Of A Lifetime”.

Amen-Ra also says:

“My style is inspirational; I want you to feel alive, and have fun in the moment because life is too short. I feel like I can give a connection that is mad real. It’s like a connection to everyday life of who we are. I plan to be a whole different type of animal. I want to make this a better world for future generations; I want to inspire and be inspired. I want to enjoy life, and see others enjoy life too.”
