On the heels of Christmas Day and new music steadily coming out of the woodworks, buzzing artist Tory Lanez drops not one but two mixtapes for your gifting pleasure.
Today, he releases Part 3 of his series Chixtape paired with The New Toronto hosted by DJ Drama and executive produced by Play Picasso.
Lanez keeps the throwback sampling spirit going on the ‘Chixtape’ portion, as he includes past hit songs along with his current tracks like: Juvenile‘s “Slow Motion”, Alicia Keys‘ “You Don’t Know My Name”, Destiny’s Child “Say My Name”, Usher‘s “You Got It Bad” which he re-titled “You Got It Worse”, Jagged Edge‘s “Walked Outta Heaven” and more.
On the title-cut “Save It”, Tory adds Ed Sheeran‘s cover of his Brownstone-inspired single “Say It” as he flips the song-title yet again. The samples on this project are pretty genius, adding such smooth transitions throughout the course of the entire project.
Moving over to ‘The New Toronto’, the talented artist intros us into his BARS session with “Makaveli”, as he declares his state of remembrance through the solidified name of the late Tupac. Next up, Tory carries over into the song-cut “The New Toronto” claiming his new status while repping his city to the fullest. The song speaks on old & new haters, his consistent moves to make it to the top, and new money.
Other standout tracks include: “Other Side”, “One Day”, “Round Here” feat. Brittney Taylor, “Kids From The West”, and “Lord Knows Pt. 2”.
Collectively, TL just delivered one of the best mixtapes of the year, ending 2015 off with a bang.
