So exactly how did Earth pick up the pieces and rebuild after events in 1996 in the first Independence Day film? Today an Independence Day: Resurgence promotional video titled “The War of 1996″| A United World News Special explaining how the world recuperated after the devastating attacks in 1996.
The 4:28 video runs like a news special or mini documentary explaining how the world in our best President Whitmore (Bill Pullman) voice “put aside their petty differences” and united in the fight to kick alien A S S after he delivered that moving speech.
We also get commentary from new characters Dylan Hiller (Jessie Usher) who speaks on his deceased father and legend Captain Steven Hiller (Will Smith).
Dylan looks to pick up where his dad left off and become one the best pilots in the E.S.D (Earth Space Defense) initiative a product of the U.G.D.U (United Global Defense Unit). We also meet two other new heroes Rain (AngelaBaby) and Jake Morrison (Liam Hemsworth) whom also signed up to be pilots E.S.D and aim to keep the planet safe from extraterrestrial invaders.
We also catch up with David Levinson who is now the Director of the Earth Space Defense and helped the world re-purpose the alien technology left behind by war of 1996 to help mankind.
The special is clearly filmed before all hell breaks loose once again on the Earth and in space but gives everyone a good understanding by explaining how mankind picked themselves up and regrouped together. Watch the “The War of 1996” | A United World News Special clip below:
Mankind looks prepared but so are their enemies, we go back to war June 24th when Independence Day: Resurgence hit’s theaters.
Over the weekend, Jessie T. Usher, who plays Will Smith’s son [Dylan Hiller], met his “movie dad” and idol for the first time in Washington, D.C. during the White House Correspondent’s Dinner. Jessie posted this photo to his Instagram recapping the night and expressing this moment as one of the highlights of his career.
t’s been 20 years since the catastrophic events of the first movie where intergalactic baddies paid a visit with the intentions to wipe out the human race. Thanks to the brave efforts of Marine pilot Captain Steven Hiller (Will Smith) and satellite expert David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum) successfully delivered a virus to alien’s mothership wiping out their defenses allowing the Earth’s forces to wipe out the invaders in a massive coordinated effort.
Flash-forward to the present, since the last invasion with help David and the left behind alien technology the Earth has been preparing if and when the aliens come back.
They will soon learn that the attack 20-years-ago pales in comparison to the one that’s about to take place. The aliens have been preparing as well to take their revenge on the humans for killing their buddies. The scale of destruction this time around is intense compared the event took place in 1996.
In Independence Day: Resurgence we catch up the with the kids of the heroes, Dylan (Jessie Usher) is all grown up now and is following in the footsteps of his step-dad whom is now deceased so yeah no Will Smith in this movie period.
Former President Thomas J.Whitmore (Bill Pullman) also returns in the second film. His daughter Patricia Whitmore (Maika Monroe) is also grown and is dealing with her dad who is clearly going through it. Her father is still suffering from the after effects of the previous battle with the aliens but always knew in the back of his mind they would return.
Other returning characters Jasmine (Vivica A.Fox), Julius Levinson (Judd Hirsch), Dr. Okun (Brent Spiner) and the new hero on the block Jake Morrison (Liam Hemsworth). Peep the new trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence below:
