CASSIUS Releases June Digital Cover ‘The First Supper’ featuring “30 Unapologetics”

On the heels of its inaugural “Culture Vultures” digital cover, CASSIUS — the latest brand from iONE Digital (formerly Interactive One) and the definitive digital destination for urban millennials – has announced its June 2017 cover: The First Supper.

‘The First Supper,’ a graphic illustration featuring 30 of the most talked-about, controversial figures in pop culture and American history, is divided into four covers featuring distinct groups of ‘Unapologetics’-cultural disruptors as they are known in the CASSIUS world. The series features critical essays penned by CASSIUS top editors and on video, extended conversation about the covers’ ultimate message and the sheer power of its many subjects.

The June cover is in keeping with CASSIUS’ mission to cut through today’s headlines with stories and critical commentary that are relevant to millennials and directly address the global impact of Black culture. Each month, CASSIUS will create original covers underscoring their unique point of view on themes such as power, identity, and race. Video content will accompany each cover.

“This month, we wanted to nod to ‘The Unapologetics’ of then and now,” says CASSIUS creator Kierna Mayo, SVP, Content and Brands at iONE Digital. “We determined that people throughout time who change the world and never apologize for it, fall into fascinating sub-categories worthy of exploration. Deciding which ‘disciples’ should have a seat at the ‘First Supper’ table was hotly debated in our office. The truth is, the world is filled with ‘Unapologetics’ -fearless individuals who push us to think differently and for everyone depicted, there was also the case for someone else. We hope our audience has the same endless discussion we did. Who really moves culture forward?”

The June cover art was illustrated by Mark Hammermeister.

At a time when mainstream media is dominated by political theater and extreme narratives, CASSIUS provides readers with a rare lens that positions Black culture as central to the world’s key issues.

Cadillac and The Coca-Cola Company are the proud launch partners of CASSIUS.

Willow & Jaden Smith Cover Interview, Sit Down With Pharrell Williams

Willow and Jaden Smith aren’t your run of the mill social media obsessed teenagers. The uber-woke offspring of Will and Jada have managed to remain unapologetically themselves; conquering everything they’ve set their sights on across the realms of acting, music, and fashion.

Covering September’s issue of Interview magazine, this unstoppable sibling duo has managed to not only fully grasp the underbelly of today’s technologically savvy world; but conscientiously maneuver the landscape to inspire, cause contemplation, and spark change amongst the millennial generation.

15-year-old Willow, and 18-year-old Jaden also sat down with Pharrell Williams for an interview that only further propels these two moguls in the making as pioneers of the future. Always humble, they discuss using social media for an intended purpose–to benefit the greater good of course–being able to express themselves without judgement from their parents, and understanding the role they play is elevating the minds of a generation that has the power to deeply impact the world.

Check out highlights from the Q&A below.

ON WHO THEIR BIGGEST INSPIRATIONS ARE

WILLOW:

“My parents. Growing up, all I saw was my parents trying to be the best people they could be, and people coming to them for wisdom, coming to them for guidance, and them not putting themselves on a pedestal, but literally being face-to-face with these people and saying, “I’m no better than you, but the fact that you’re coming to me to reach some sort of enlightenment or to shine a light on something, that makes me feel love and gratitude for you.” They always give back what people give to them.”

JADEN:

“I 100 percent agree with Willow on that one. My parents are definitely my biggest role models. And that’s where me and Willow both pull all of our inspiration from to change the world. It all comes from a concept of affecting the world in a positive way and leaving it better than it was than when we came.”

WILLOW ON BEING ABLE TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES EARLY ON

“Me and Jaden, when we were younger … [laughs] Ooh! We would wear the craziest things. Jaden would only wear his Spider-Man costume. I would freaking mismatch every single shirt and pants in my closet. We would just be so rambunctious with our clothing choices. And when we were old enough to start dressing ourselves, my mom was like, “Are you sure you want to go out like that?” And me and Jaden would be like, “You know what? Yes.” And she’d totally accept it. I feel like that’s where most of our confidence comes from. Because we weren’t told, “Oh, you don’t look good in that. You look crazy. People are gonna think this about you.” Like, obviously, that was going to be happening regardless, but it wasn’t like that ruled what we did or the choices that we made.”

JADEN ON THEIR SIBLING DYNAMIC

“So there’s always been competition, but we’ve always worked as hard as possible to do the things that we want to do. We never got upset because we could always do the same thing. It happened so that me and Willow were able to go through every level or different section of life that we wanted to. If we wanted to act, we could act. If we wanted to dance, we were dancing. And we could do it on the level that we wanted to do it. So there was no, like, “I’m mad at you.” Well, we would get mad at each other when we were young, but that stopped when we were, like, 9.”

The Black Eyed Peas Remake “Where’s The Love,” Inspired By Series of Tragic Events

The Black Eyed Peas are back to once again to ask the masses “Where’s The Love?”

FergieWill.I.Am, Apl.De.Ap and Taboo recreate their hopeful anthem to inspire a new generation to take a stand.

Featuring an all-star line-up that includes Diddy, Mary J. Blige, Jamie Foxx, Nicole Scherzinger, The Game, Jessie J, Andra Day, Tori Kelly, Ty Dolla $ign, Usher, DJ Khaled, A$AP Rocky, Jaden Smith, and Justin Timberlake; Will.I.am told ATTN:,

“Everyone was calling on us, like, we need that song again.”

The remake was sparked by the tragic events that have taken place here and abroad. From the terrorist attacks in Paris, Belgium, and Turkey; the deaths of Philando Castille, and Alton Sterling at the hands of police; to the attacks on law enforcement in Dallas; and the Orlando mass shooting, the group felt it was a message the world desperately needed to hear.

The group hopes the record will resonate with Millennials like it did with the masses back in 2003. Will.I.am explains,

“Millennials are powerful. I don’t think they realize just how powerful they are. I hope this song inspires the millennials to go all out, scream from the tallest mountain, care like your freedom depends on it. Pay attention like that is at risk.”

The song is set to debut later on today. Until then check out a clip of Will.I.am, Apl.De.Ap and Taboo discussing with ATTN: what inspired the original and what led them to create a remake.
