FLY Review: Kevin Hart Delivers An Unique Stand-Up Special/Film Experience With Kevin Hart:What Now?

What Now? is an appropriate title for Kevin Hart’s latest film covering his sold out comedy special of the same name. The film focuses on his show in his hometown of Philadelphia where he literally packed out Lincoln Financial Field.

When it comes to comedy, Kevin Hart is pretty much a rock star and it’s pretty much clear as he gets a stadium of 53,000 people to laugh at his energetic brand of comedy. What Now? follows up Hart’s last stand-up special Let Me Explain and of course Hart being the visionary he is opted to something extraordinarily different with this stand up special/film.

We spoke to Kevin exclusively and asked him about returning to stand-up after being in so many blockbuster films and how did it feel?

For me it was a must. I never go away from standup comedy. Standup comedy is always first. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for standup comedy. It’s just about me doing it right. I think I’ve set quite a bar for myself when it comes to standup comedy, when it comes to be doing my standup comedy specials. From Grown Little Man, to Seriously Funny, to Laugh at My Pain, to Let Me Explain, and to now What Now? The goal is to get better. The goal is to grow and to always reach levels. The time comes in with me just not being content with the material at certain points. It took me about a good year and a half to two years to get the material as solid as it was for me to film What Now. Once I felt that it was seamless, that every joke hit hard then I said it’s time to not only tour but film the special.

Team SFPL got the opportunity to attend a special fan screening of the film at AMC Lincoln Square theater in NYC.To show his appreciation to the fans Kevin Hart surprised the crowded the theater by showing up and sharing a few words with the crowd about the film and thanking them.

Now lets get into the film! Before we get to the actual stand up special we are treated to a short film featuring some big Hollywood names.

Tim Story directs the James Bond inspired mini film where Kevin Hart plays himself as a spy with Halle Berry who also played a Bond Girl as his leading lady. The setting of course is the obligatory high stakes poker game we have grown accustomed to in all spy movies.Kevin goes all in battling the evil Russian villain (David Meunier), and Don Cheadle who plays himself and grows impatient with Kevin’s hilarious antics as he mocks him at the table. Ed Helms of The Hangover fame serves as the wacky bartender in the scene.

Things pick up in the mini film action wise and we get to see Kevin effortlessly pull off some fight choreography. It’s a relief from always seeing Kevin as the awkward funny guy in fight scenes always getting beat up. It all leads up to Kevin making it to the stadium to put on the biggest stand up special ever where Leslie Small takes over on the directorial side.

Backed by a huge big-board that successfully helped Kevin tell his over the top stories about his fiancé at the time now wife, children, his father and hilarious real-life experiences. Small manages to catch the multi-cultural crowd letting the laughs go as Kevin delivers his unique brand of comedy. Small successfully captures the 5’4″ but now larger than life comedian dishing out jokes to more than 50,000 for a unique comedy experience.

That still leaves the question of What Now? What can Kevin honestly do to top this? What continues to motivate him? Well a global tour for one as to what continues to drive the comedian to push the envelope he also added:

I think now just seeing me getting closer to the goal of becoming a mogul. I think that’s where a lot of this motivation comes from. I want to become the mogul that I set out to be. I want to be self-owned. I want Hart Beat Productions to stand on its own. I want Hart Beat Digital to do more. I want my network Laugh Out Loud Network to be successful. I still want to go on and do comedy at the highest level. I still want to go on and star in blockbuster movies. I mean it’s just constantly going and doing as much as I possibly can, but the motivation comes in knowing that I can reach that level.

Well said Kevin!

Final Verdict

If you were like me and didn’t get a chance to attend Hart’s stand up special live then this film will definitely show you what you missed. It will have you in the theater laughing out loud and repeating with the crowd in the movie as Kevin says “oh really” as he mimics the sarcasticness  of black woman who are reluctant to believe outrageous stories that Kevin jokingly tells. Looking for a good laugh on date night or movie night with the homies then by all means checkout this film.

[The Daily Word] Life After RHOA Featuring Sheree Whitfield, Teyana Taylor signs to G.O.O.D. Music & Halle Berry is PISSED at the Paps (AGAIN) …

Well, looks like the rumors were true, The Multi-Talented Actress, Designer, and Homebuilder, Sheree Whitfield is officially not apart of the hit Bravo Reality Show, The Real Housewives of Atlanta.

Word on her streets is she quit …

She recently sat her talents down with Essence Magazine to set the record straight about her reasons for departing the show …

On why she left RHOA
I had been thinking about it for a while. We don’t see the show until it airs, or a couple days before it airs. Even when we were taping, there were a few things I wasn’t happy with as far as how I was portrayed. I was going through some really tough things in my life and watching back and seeing how it affected not only my life, but also my kids’ lives, I made a decision that I didn’t want to be selfish. My kids come first.

On accusations that she was fired
It was an amicable split. I was ready to move and I don’t need to explain myself to anybody. I am super happy and I’m moving in a different direction. This is what I know. I’m not about just being on a show bickering and fighting with women. There are big parts of my life that weren’t shown that I’m ready for everybody to see.

On what she’s doing next
I’ve been spending more time with my kids and my family and planning my next move. I’ve got a couple projects that I’m working on that I’m really excited about. I’ve partnered with a company called Zuma to create a 5 million-pound fitness challenge. We’re trying to help a generation get healthy. I’m really excited about it because this is my realm and what I love.

We wish Sheree all the luck on her future endeavors!

Fly Girl, Teyana Taylor, has just officially been signed to Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music label.  According to the press release.

“Kanye has signed Teyana Taylor, the multi-talented young singer-songwriter, rapper, dancer/choreographer, and actress to G.O.O.D.’s expanding artist roster.”

Details and info on Teyana’s first album and single releases will be revealed in the coming weeks and months ahead. In the mean time, go download her first mixtape, The Misunderstanding of Teyana Taylor, You won’t regret it!

Congrats TT!

And Halle Berry is mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore!

She’s absolutely furious with the paparazzi, the paparazzi literally stalk her home and her child’s school every day in hopes of a good flick, and Halle is going KANYE on Ninjas!

I get her frustration, I really do. But there are many sacrifices you give up for the price of fame, and the paps come with the position. Should they leave the children out of it? Yes, but they have to make their money too. I’m not justifying it, I’m just saying, both parties have a job to do. If Media outlets didn’t pay so much for the pictures, they wouldn’t stalk driveways and school parking lots. Celebrities can’t live ‘Normal’ lives anymore, this modern day of blogs and reality TV has ruined that for them.

As a Blogger, I say, if you can’t change your circumstances, change your mind about them.

Grab a blanket Halle, it worked for MJ.

[Fly-LIGHTs] Beyonce, Jay-Z & Julez/ Solange Knowles/ LaLa ANthony/ Kerry Washington/ Halle Berry/

Super couple, Jay-Z and Beyonce brought there nephew Julez to the Nets vs. Heat game last night.  Clad in a multi-colored  Thakoon dress and black mesh, studded Christian Louboutin Bourriche booties & her new fave Linda Farrow/The Row shades.

I’m not a fan of those shoes tho :-/

Although the home team lost to the Miami Heat, LeBron James did the noble thing after winning, he walked off the court, he took off his sweaty sneakers and put them in Julez’s lap.

Respect the Conglomerate.

Bey stepped out over the weekend in another pair of interesting Red Bottoms as well, she’s really into those I see.

Fly Girl, Solange Knowles attends the New York Academy of Art 2012 Tribeca Ball at the New York Academy of Art in New York City, looking trendy and chic as always.

Fly Girl, Lala Anthony sizzled in this shimmery number during a press day for her new movie “Think Like A Man”.

The love of my life, Kerry Washington attended the Django Unchainedphoto call at Summer of Sony 4 Spring Edition held at The Ritz Carlton Hotel in Cancun, Mexico.

She can do no wrong in my eyes, and she hardly ever does.

And Halle Berry hasn’t aged one bit in a leopard print dress at the 2012 Jenesse Silver Rose Awards Gala and Auction at Beverly Hills Hotel.

Ladies and Gentlemen this is what 46 looks like.

-Stay Fly!

Halle Berry is looking #FLY in her all black everything for the March 2011 cover of EBONY Magazine. While she has on a frilly, lingerie esque black dress eating a fruit, she dishes on everything, including her daughter Nahla.

At SFPL we appreciate visuals that we see on magazine covers (and everywhere else) The simple background, the black lingerie dress, the cherry being chewed softly provide for a very dynamic photo.

It sounds like Halle’s holding nothing back when it comes to how she identifies her almost 3-year-old daughter with ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry

On Nahla

“I feel like she’s black. I’m black and I’m her mother and I believe in the one-drop theory. I’m not going to put a label on it. I had to decide for myself and that’s what she’s going to have to decide – how she identifies herself in the world. And I think, largely, that will be based on how the world identifies her. That’s how I identified myself. But I feel like she’s black.”

On dating outside her race

“Well, first thing I want to say is that I’m very connected to my community and I want black people to know that I haven’t abandoned them because I’ve had a child with a man outside of my race and I’m dating someone now outside of my race who is Spanish and French. I have never been more clear about who I am as a black woman. The people I have dated sort of hold up a mirror to me and help me realize more of who I really am.”

FLY News: Halle Berry to play Aretha Franklin in upcoming Biopic…

Well, at least they really do favor each other!

Talks of Halle Berry playing The Queen Aretha Franklin have been floating around for some time now, but it was confirmed by Ms. Franklin herself, last night on The Wendy Williams Show.
