Legend Shirley Caesar Honored with Hollywood Walk of Fame Star

The Reigning Queen of Gospel, Shirley Caesar was honored in a jubilant celebration in Hollywood on Tuesday June 28th, as her trailblazing music career was recognized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Honored in the category of Recording, Shirley Caesar’s star was unveiled in front of the Fonda Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, with Pastor Caesar joined by world-renowned artists Yolanda Adams and Kirk Franklin as guest speakers, and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Leron Gubler as the emcee, who also declared it “Shirley Caesar Day” in Hollywood during the ceremony.

Sharing this momentous occasion before a packed crowd of family, friends, peers and fans, the Gospel Hall of Fame icon and newly-minted Hollywood Walk of Fame star recipient took the stage, giving an inspiring, energetic and humorous speech.

Providing powerful words of encouragement that remain a hallmark of her longtime worldwide music ministry, with joyful gratitude Pastor Caesar declared:

I honor the Lord for this wonderful privilege….I feel as if I’m in a beautiful fairytale. Who wouldn’t serve a God like this? One who keeps blessing and showing you that your latter can be greater than your former. Been through the storm and the rain, but it’s alright, it’s ok. I made it!”

Marking her 50th anniversary as a solo artist in a music career spanning over 60 years and over 40 albums, Caesar continues to hit the road with her new hit album FILL THIS HOUSE, including TV performances on “Good Day LA” and “Tavis Smiley” on PBS, as well as preaching at home church Mt. Calvary Word of Faith Church in Raleigh, NC.  Released on June 3rd, FILL THIS HOUSE spent two consecutive weeks at #1 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart upon its debut, garnering critical acclaim in 11 tracks delivering hope, unifying love and impactful ministry on songs such as “It’s Alright, It’s Ok” (feat. Anthony Hamilton), “Mother Emanuel,” “Prayer Changes Things,” and more.

Fly Interview: Deitrick Haddon says; “Kanye West On A Gospel Record Would Be Bananas! Get Drake On A Hook…Sheesh.”

Recently, Gospel Artist Deitrick Haddon stopped by SFPL TV to drop some knowledge and gave an exclusive LIVE performance of his hit track “Under Control.”

During the interview, Deitrick spoke on the state of gospel music, Kanye West and Drake wanting to do a gospel track but possibly being pushed away, why gospel artists aren’t crossing over due to lack of artistry, and so much more. Everyone should definitely pay close attention to this interview, as Haddon laid the true on the line.

What Deitrick says about the Gospel genre/Artists when asked; “why the music seems to be very stagnant, and going unnoticed in recent times?”:

I believe we have to be more creative. I think we need to bring the art back to gospel music. An artist to express themselves; on stage, the lights, what are you rocking, what are you wearing, what’s your presentation — we’ve kinda fell off from presentation — we put on our suits & ties and we’re just like…”C’mon and lift you hands” [in his Preacher voice]…and that’s it, [he shrugs]. Honestly, we get on Sunday morning. EVERY Sunday morning. So, i’m not going to buy a ticket to your concert when I get that for free on Sunday. But if you express yourself as an artist, people are attracted to your art, and they will come see that because they can’t see that on Sunday. But, it takes bold talent to come out and say; “I’m an artist, that’s who I am. And i’m doing it for Gospel music, doing it for God, but i’m doing it the way I see it, and the way I hear it.” So we gotta get back to that. And that’s my mission now, i’m saying: “Hey y’all, let’s not allow this tradition to smother our creativity.”

Wise words from Deitrick!

SFPL Artist Spotlight: NYC based Indie Gospel Group, Eminence, Releases First Single “Worthy Is The Lamb”

Eminence, a NYC based gospel ensemble has released their first epic single, “Worthy is The Lamb.”

The group’s new official song is a dynamic, and inspirational song that takes the listener on an emotional musical journey with its intricate, stringed arrangement and dynamic electric guitar accompaniment.

With strong vibratos and an abundance of vocal control, the group takes you back to the authentic sound of gospel, reminiscent of Ricky Dillard & New Generation Chorale, James Hall Worship & Praise, and even more of the secular lines of Kirk Franklin‘s presents God’s Property.

“Eminence has been performing around NYC since 2010, so we are excited for the digital release of our first single,” says Karl Jackson, founder and director of Eminence. “This single has been one of our most requested performance songs to date, so it was befitting that it was our first recorded project.”

Karl Jackson also wrote, “Worthy is The Lamb.” Recorded vocals were co-produced by Karl Jackson and Daniel Calderon, and Gary Mayes produced the musical instrumentation.
