Gabrielle Union Covers Women’s Health Magazine

Gabrielle Union, star of BET’s Being Mary Jane, covers the March issue of Women’s Health magazine. Inside, she reveals her secrets to looking young, her outlook on exercise – and gets real in a behind-the-scenes video exclusive about mean girls, equal pay, and sexual assault.

On her advocacy for the prevention of sexual assault:

“Everyone has a different idea about what consent is. And I think with electing Trump, and his history with women, it’s incredibly confusing to young people.”

On the idea of mean girls:

“Mean girls become mean women, and mean guys. This is not gender specific…it’s just mean people. We live in this age of where everyone is trying to ‘out-snark’ everyone…but the reality is, mean people have low self-esteem. I always say ‘I’ve never met a hater whose life I wish I had.’ The biggest, easiest way to broadcast to the world that you’re insecure, and that somebody has power over you, is to be a mean girl towards that person.”

On equal pay:

“When I first started, I just wanted a job, I didn’t even think about pay. And then you realize the men in our industry make a lot more than women, and then you realize what your white female counterparts are making versus the women of color, and there’s a huge hole there. I wish I could give a stack of facts and figures about how much black women make, Latinas, Asian women, Native women, lesbian women, women with disabilities…not to make you feel lucky, but to realize we have so much more work to do…there’s always someone else whose getting screwed.”

On her feelings towards diet and exercise:

“It’s not even like ‘I’m not going to work out, and I’m going to watch what I eat’. If I don’t feel like it, I don’t feel like it. I’m going to have a margarita. I’m not going to get the skinny one. I’m going to get the one with all of the freaking calories. I’m going to have a cheeseburger, I’m going to have a pound of bacon. And then maybe the next day, I’ll try to pull it together, but I try not to be too crazy with it. I’m never going to turn down a burger. Ever. Especially if there’s bacon and cheese on it.”

On what she’d tell her younger self:

“I would tell my younger self, ‘You don’t have all the answers;  he’s not the one; you’re not going to die of a broken heart; there will be a thousand and one people who think you’re great;  and ‘be nice to your little sister.’”

On her type of man:

“I don’t know if I ever had a ‘type,’ but at this point in my life, I like guys who are taller than me and make more money than I do. And Dwayne [Wade, her NBA-star husband] is even all in with Cornhusker football now – I got him, like, addicted.”

On aging:

“I get asked all the time how I look so young. I don’t like needles. I’m not going to rule out Botox, but the idea of putting a needle in my face – I’m not there yet. I have pretty oily skin, I drink a lot of water, I don’t smoke, and I don’t have a hard life. Of course, as I’ve aged, everything on my body hurts! My hips, back, shoulders – lots of aches and pains. I dye my hair and people say, ‘You look young,’ but my gray hairs are saying, ‘She’s old as f-ck!’”

On her best tips for staying young:

“My best anti-aging tip is the ability to say no, no, and hell, no. We run ourselves ragged saying yes to every freaking thing, whether it’s to our family, spouses, or careers. I sleep eight hours a day and don’t let myself stress out. A lot of people call it selfish, but I don’t have any wrinkles.”

On her complicated relationship with exercise:

“I have a family history of diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, and I know that can lead to an early death. I want to be a vital and energetic part of my family for a long time, not to be big mama in a rocking chain in the TV room, or huffing and puffing just going up stairs. I work out not because I get off on it, but because I want to live!”

On her attitude towards food:

“I’ve learned to be kind to myself. I’m not obsessive about food, like, ‘Oh no, I ate badly, so I have to stay in the gym for two hours!’ At the end of the day, did I enjoy that meal? Hell, yes! Am I going to stress out about it? Hell, no! And magically, the world doesn’t end because of what I ate.”

New Brand Ambassador Teyana Taylor Gets Physical In Reebok Freestyle Campaign

Today, Reebok proudly announces the newest member of the sneaker family with the appointment of R&B artist, dancer, actress and famed sneakerhead Teyana Taylor, as an official brand ambassador. Taylor will join Reebok’s like-minded collective of innovative and inspirational creators, including the likes of Future, Gigi Hadid, and Top Dawg Entertainment Recording Artist Kendrick Lamar.

Taylor will spearhead the re-release of the Reebok Classic Freestyle Hi, the first fitness sneaker that was specifically designed for women. First introduced in 1982, the Freestyle Hi was a groundbreaking silhouette that embodied then exactly what Taylor represents today: fearlessness and bold expression. Taylor is known for her provocative moves, her unapologetic style, and her freedom of language in music, fashion and dance – all characteristics that also describe the Reebok Classic and the Freestyle Hi in particular.

Teyana officially launched the partnership today via her social channels through new campaign images and video that she shared with fans worldwide. With her trademark ferocity and her personal message to everyone to “Free Your Style,” Taylor is pictured wearing the Freestyle Hi, which will include three OG colorways — the Triple Red, Triple White, and Triple Black – launching this month.

“Teyana Taylor is the perfect collaborator to join the Reebok family,” said Todd Krinsky, Global Vice President of Reebok Classic and Entertainment. “She is a risk-taker who brings her own perspective to every project and she stands uniquely at the intersection of fashion, music and fitness, which are the core tenets of Reebok Classic. Commenting on the partnership, Taylor said:

“Reebok has always been a brand that’s been very special to my heart ever since I was young. Freestyles were all I wanted to wear growing up so it feels like everything’s come full circle with this partnership. The 5411’s really opened the door for creativity in women’s fashion, it gave permission for sneakers to be feminine. I’m honored to be the face of the Freestyle campaign for everything it stood for yesterday and what it still represents today.”

Taylor and Reebok have notably worked together in the past, collaborating on her own brazen red colorway of the Question Mid as part of the 20th Anniversary of the iconic Allen Iverson sneaker in 2016, called the “Question Mid Teyana T.”

Taylor will initially support the re-release of the Freestyle Hi in 2017 with its three OG colorways currently available at www.reebok.com and select retailers nationwide, with additional colorways to come throughout 2017.

Reebok and J.J. Watt Celebrate Veterans With JJ I Military Edition

Fly News: BeyoncÉ Continues World Domination Launches Fitness Brand Ivy Park

Rumors have been swirling of an impending new album from Queen Bey, and while we’ll have to wait and see if she delivers another surprise album, what we do know for sure is Beyoncé will be blessing the hive with some dope new threads.

Last year we learned Sasha Fierce was teaming up with Top Shop to create her own line of athleisure wear. Today she announced the launch of her new fitness brand Ivy Park with a commercial oozing with female strength and inspiration.

It seems B is not only taking her talents to Top Shop, but Net-a-Porter and Nordstrom along with a handful of other retailers overseas. Ivy Park will be available online and in stores on April 14th.

The line features fitness basics like leotards, sweats, swimwear, tops, shorts, and headbands. Beyoncê has managed to make athleisure wear for the fashionista in all of us.

The name for her new line was of course inspired by her daughter Blue Ivy Carter who makes an appearance in the video, and the childhood park she speaks about in the two minute preview.

“I would wake up in the morning and my dad would come knocking on my door, tell me it’s time to go running. I remember wanting to stop, but I would push myself to keep going. He taught me discipline and I would think about my dreams. I would think about the sacrifices my parents made for me. I would think about my little sister and how I was her hero. There are things I’m still afraid of. When I have to conquer those things, I go back to that park.”

Beyoncé can also be seen sporting her new line on the cover of Elle and Elle UK for their Women In Music/May 2016 issues. Queen Bey sat down with ELLE for a rare in-depth interview where they discussed freedom, feminism, her new fashion line Ivy Park, and tons more. The May issue of Elle will be available digitally April 5th and on newsstands April 6.
