Lucious Mama Still Crazy, Cookie Bosses Up, Becky Levels Up & More On Tonight’s Episode of Empire

Lucious is struggling with regaining his memory as well as being one-legged Joe. That’s not his only worry though cause his crazy mama is still around. We found out she is still certifiably nuts when she tries to drown her son like in the flashbacks featuring Kelly Rowland as his younger crazy mama. Luckily for Lucious, his up to no good nurse Claudia comes back in time to save him from his mama.

Power Season 2, Episode 8 Recap

Cookie doesn’t trust Claudia and decides to permanently move into Lucious’ mansion and won’t leave until she fixes her man. Claudia takes Lucious to one of his old stomping grounds in Philly a diner after a round of memory flashcards. The owner recognizes Lucious and reminisces when Lucious used to visit with a composer named Eddie Barker (Forest Whitaker). Claudia immediately tells the owner to stop and go away but Lucious is intrigued and speaks with the owner behind Claudia’s back to find out where he can find Eddie.

Lucious slips out of the diner without Claudia knowing and heads to Eddie’s location to speak with him. Eddie, of course, is happy to see him but has no idea Lucious doesn’t really remember him. It’s when Eddie brings up a story from Lucious’ troubled past that triggers Lucious memory and he has an episode. Eddie decides to stop by Lucious’ house, he hops on the piano and sings a song and Cookie joins in on the meeting. Lucious thanks Eddie for stopping by and leaves. Eddie and Cookie have a conversation and it’s at that moment he points out the Lucious doesn’t even remember him. Cookie tries to deny it at first but she eventually comes clean and begs Eddie to keep it a secret between them and he agrees. Eddie gives Cookie advice and tells her to lean on Empire and it’s artists and the music after she reveals to him that Empire isn’t looking too good financially.

Now, what about the Lyon cubs? Jamal lands a contract with a movie to make a new title track. He also is planning to release an album full of love songs as well.  Andre finds a buyer for Empire X Stream, and almost caps off his night with some bathroom sex with a woman he meets at the bar but he can’t get it up.

Power Season 2, Episode 8 Recap

Hakeem the wild child is back at Empire trying to come up with another hit record. Becky, the interim A&R at Empire because Hakeem’s baby mama is currently in jail wants him to drop another pop smash like “Drip Drop”.

Hakeem, of course, wants to put out a pure hip-hop track and points out that when Anika was head of A&R she would let him do anything. Well she’s not, Becky convinces Hakeem to take her advice by telling him if he drops another pop hit it will allow him to do whatever he wants. Hakeem agrees and when Becky leaves he reveals he will make the pop track but he still gotta the personal one out of the way.

Now we mentioned Anika, she is currently locked up for the murder of Tariq which she didn’t commit. At her hearing which didn’t go too well, she tells Hakeem to “tell Cookie I remember January 7, 2017!” as she is being taken away.  Cookie and Thirsty visit her and jail, Cookie knows that is the date that Bunky died. Anika tells Cookie she wants out of jail. The meeting pays off cause Thirsty comes through in the clutch with a doctored tape that makes it seem like Tariq was stalking and threatening her.

Speaking of Tariq, Cookie catches Lucious mama going through her drawers looking for a gun to kill Lucious with. It’s during this interaction that Lucious mama reveals that she was the one that killed Tariq. After the revelation, Cookie decides mama has to go away and they have her crazy ass recommitted to the mental institution.

Now back at Empire, remember that track that Jamal was working on? Well, he plays it for the producer of the movie. The producer is digging it but wants Jamal to make some significant changes to the track which would make it a completely different record altogether. A&R Becky insists that Jamal makes the changes but Jamal doesn’t want to and reminds her shes only interim A&R.  Jamal makes the changes but still does what he wants and not what the producer wants and Becky is not feeling it. Jamal finds Becky in the conference room with Tory and the movie producer playing his song but there is a huge difference. Jamal is no longer on the record.

Jamal is furious and tells Becky “Pull this s— again, and you won’t have a job at my label”. Too bad he doesn’t know that Cookie has different plans for Becky. Becky tells Cookie before an important press conference what happened between her and her son and instead of siding with Jamal she sides with Becky. She tells Becky “I need strong people around me,” and tells Porsha to take the interim title off Becky’s title and raise her salary 30 percent.

Power Season 2, Episode 9

With that out of the way, Cookie reveals at the press conference that Empire will release 20 new albums for the label’s 20th anniversary. Not the news Andre wanted to hear because he is the one who has to come up with the money.  Furious at the news he snaps on Cookie but she shuts that down quickly and tells Andre he better find the money quickly. Not to mention he already has heat on him from the NYPD who is questioning him about Giuliana. He also is shocked to see that woman whom he almost had sex with is one of the detectives paying him a visit.

Anika is now a free woman and her first stop on her I am out the bing tour is Hakeem’s house. He opens the door and the first thing she sees is Tiana holding Bella. Definitely, something she doesn’t want to see at all. Claudia was not too happy about Lucious sneaking away from her and decides she has had enough. She tells Lucious that she is leaving but he begs her to stay and insists that she needs her. She hears his cries and consoles him and tells him that she is not leaving.

We think this was her plan all along to get Lucious back in line. Things are starting to get very interesting in the Empire and we can’t wait to see next weeks episode. Of course, Empire fans had the best commentary during the show, hit the gallery below to see hilarious tweets.

On The Gram: The Internet Welcomes Back Empire With Memes

Empire is back for its fourth season and things pick up immediately after last season’s explosive cliffhanger. Lucious (Terrence Howard) saved Cookie (Taraji P.Henson)  from the car bomb planted by their own son Andre (Trai Byers) and Shyne (XZibit).

Cookie narrowly escaped without a scratch but we found out this season Lucious no longer remembers he’s an evil guy and walks with a noticeable limp because he is now missing a leg.

You can always count on Lee Daniels to take it there on this show. The Lyon cubs are thrown for a loop when they meet the new Lucious who is even more accepting of Jamal’s (Jussie Smollet) sexuality. We also meet Lucious’ new friend/nurse Claudia (Demi Moore) whom we can tell already is planning something devious that has Cookie’s bullshit sensors going off.

Hakeem (Bryshere Gray)  is also being blackmailed by Diana Dubois (Phylicia Rashad), she is on mission to make Cookie pay. Her plan is to make all of Cookie’s children suffer, she even has her gay son seducing poor Jamal who can never seem to catch a break in his love life.

Andre is learning that dealing with Shyne is becoming more than he bargained for.  We also had a brief cameo from Corlatta (Queen Latiffah) from Daniel’s other hit show Star. She pays Lucious a visit but due to his amnesia he doesn’t even remember her.

But the question is how long will nice Lucious be around? Will we have to endure him all season long? As you can imagine peg leg Lucious and his amnesia was the talk of the gram. Hit the gallery below to see the hilarious memes that followed tonight’s season 4 premiere.

New Video: Jussie Smollett – “F.U.W.”

[ione_embed src= service=youtube width=854 height=480 type=iframe]

This record and accompanied visual by singer, songwriter, activist, actor, director and Empire‘s own Jussie Smollett combats the race-baiting, bigotry and xenophobia of the current administration, but also is a brilliant examination of the black and minority experience in America now.

“This is not a single. It’s not a song to promote the series. It’s an artistic expression. My view of this sick cycle, an era in which we must fight our way out of before it’s too late. This view of unity is something they may never understand. That is why it is up to us. Train your daughters and sons to be soldiers of love, despite and in spite of this F#$* Up World,” explains Jussie Smollett.

One Big Happy Dysfunctional Family: ‘Empire’ Season 3, Episode 7 Recap & Memes

The drama continues on the latest episode of our favor over dramatic series Empire!

On tonight’s episode, Cookie (Taraji P.Henson) and Angelo Dubois (Taye Diggs) finally decide to give their relationship another shot. Cookie even finally gives Angelo the Cookies to consummate the relationship properly. There’s a catch though, Cookie has to meet Angelo’s mom Diana Dubois played by the iconic Phylicia Rashad at a fundraising dinner for him.

The meeting is set up but unfortunately she stands up Angelo and his mom after viewing Jamal’s “video museum” using old clips of Cookie from her childhood. The stroll down memory lane causes Cookie to lose it after it brings up old feelings of disappointment and regret. We learn through a series of flashbacks throughout the episode that Cookie’s dad kicked her out at a young age because of her being involved with Lucious. He eventually dies three days later and her sisters blamed her for the unwanted stress on his heart because Cookie who happens to be his favorite let him down.

To make up for the missed meeting Cookie pitches the idea to take Angelo and his mom out to dinner. Angelo agrees to the idea and insists that Cookie brings her sons along cause shes big on family. That plan also falls flat after all of the restaurants become suddenly booked. Cookie decides to have dinner at her house, she pulls out all the stops to impress Angelo’s mom. She has her sister Candace (Vivica A.Fox) giving her some dinner etiquette lessons and even refurnished her apartment for the dinner.

Of course this is Empire and things never go smoothly. Jamal is still battling PTSD is now using drugs given to him by his producer/lover D-Major and shows up extremely high and quite entertaining. Hakeem shows up with baby Bella and is at wit’s end because she won’t stop crying. Andre doesn’t even to bother to show and instead opts to impress his new boo Nessa by attending a memorial gathering for her big brother and bringing Freda Getz. To make matters even worse for Cookie, Lucious decides to crash the dinner with Anika.

On top of that, Diana is deathly allergic to the meal that was prepared. Totally embarrassed by her dysfunctional family Cookie decides to speak her mind. She points out the fact that her family is indeed messed up but she loves them as is. Her speech is followed by Jamal singing his new touching song “Mama” which pays tribute to Cookie and her struggle. The speech and song clearly impresses Diana who reveals that her family wasn’t any better. She also noticed the fur coats Cookie hid from her as well but nonetheless she was impressed by Cookie’s “fire”.

She did leave Cookie with one warning telling her “You just make sure that fire doesn’t burn my child”.

With everything square between his mom and Cookie, Angelo tells Cookie he’s coming back to “tuck her in” after he drops his mom home.

Lucious leaves with a very disappointed look on his face, back at the Lyon estate he stops and stares at Boo Boo Kitty who is getting ready for bed. Is he possibly getting feelings back for his old flame now? Hmmm we can’t wait to see what tricks is up Lucious sleeve in the next weeks episode.

On The Gram: The Internet Hilariously Reacts To Andre’s Supernatural Threesome With Nessa and His Dead Wife Rhonda On Empire!

Empire was ummmm very interesting tonight to say the least. No Rhonda still didn’t have a funeral yet, BUT she definitely was very much involved in tonight’s episode. Andre has had an interesting season thus far, he isn’t really dealing with the death of his wife Rhonda very well and still sees her from time to time.

He’s also had a run in with the law after he was racially profiled and wrongfully arrested and is now in the system.

On a positive note his relationship with his manipulative father Lucious seems to be on the mend and he’s dealing with his bipolar disorder very well. Which now brings us to tonight’s episode, Andre and Lucious may be getting along but Lucious still takes shots at his son and the fact he married a white woman this sets up the hook-up of the night.

Andre on a mission to sign Shine’s artist Nessa seems to intrigue the young star after he makes an impressive pitch to her. The two wind up alone and immediately hit it off, Andre is hesitant at first as Rhonda is still on the brain.

That all changes when the Ghost of Rhonda pretty much possesses him and joins in on the fun. Yes you read that correctly we just witnessed a paranormal menage trois.

We don’t know what to say at all! Twitter immediately lost it here is a sample of the immediate reactions to the ghostly love scene:

It didn’t stop there, peep more reactions from the gram in the gallery below:

On The Gram: Hakeem VS Romeo, Boo Boo Kitty Is A Savage & More Generate Hilarious Empire Memes

Things are quickly getting interesting in the world of Empire with the Lyon family. Andre is not only battling the ghost of his dead wife Rhonda but he’s also battling the law.

Last week he was he profiled by police officers and wrongfully arrested for the “crime” of removing possessions from his own property. He took his fight to court and of course the white judge wasn’t trying to hear what he had to say. Now he has become the posterboy for #BlackLivesMatter but his lawyer doesn’t seem to want anything to do with it.

Boo Boo Kitty is tired of being “trapped” in the mansion for the sake of optics and after Lucious does her dirty she shows him two can play that game. She links up with the attractive USP man in the same fashion Lucious linked up with her former assistant.

Things get very interesting with Hakeem when his former boo Tiana puts on a sizzling performance with Gram (Romeo Miller). Hakeem wasn’t feeling that and hit the studio to make his version of “I Hit It” to let out his frustration.

Jamal’s PTSD is getting worse and paying a visit to Freda in prison doesn’t help matters at all. He eventually links up with Kitty (Mariah Carey) to for an amazing duet to help out the Empire streaming service. Maybe that will help him get back on track musically.

Cookie and Lucious are feuding once again! Lucious isn’t feeling Cookie’s new “woke” love interest Angelo Dubois. Lucious in retaliation takes back control of Empire music from Cookie. Looks like we will be seeing a battle between Lucious and Angelo coming up very soon.

Our favorite part of the night is always seeing the gram’s reactions to Empire’s weekly shenanigans. Hit the gallery below to see the best memes created after tonight’s episode of Empire:

On The Gram: Rhonda Still Didn’t Get A Funeral & More Hilarious Empire Memes

We are two episodes in now for the 3rd season of Empire and no Rhonda didn’t get a funeral yet!

Hakeem and Nessa seem to be clicking but Hakeem may have second thoughts about that because of her brother Shine (Xzibit) knocked a man clean out for looking at her.

Power Season 2, Episode 8 Recap

Lucious is still dealing with the feds and trying to keep the illusion that he’s happily marred to Boo Boo Kitty. At the same time Lucious is still desperately trying to win Cookie back BUT she seems to be focused on Angelo Dubois (Taye Diggs) who is zeroing on Cookie.

Power Season 2, Episode 9 Recap

They Lyon boys all have issues, whether it’s Jamal battling PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) after being shot by Freda Gatz, Andre talking to the ghost of his dead wife Rhonda while dealing with bipolar disorder and Hakeem’s drinking problem on top of being father of a baby girl.

The scene that took the cake though was Empire touching on the current tension between African Americans and the police in this country. In a powerful scene Andre is approached by two white police officers who following up on call of someone robbing a house. Andre is cleaning out the house him and Rhonda used to live in, of course the two officers are not trying to hear it and wrestle Andre to the ground. On top of everything draw their weapons on the grieving Lyon son and the episode ends.
