Fly News: Playboy Revamps, Unveils First Non-Nude Issue

Back in October Playboy announced that it would be moving in a slightly tamer direction to attract a millennial audience. We finally get a look inside the revamp with the unveiling of their March 2016 cover.

Moving away from full-frontal nudity Playboy’s March 2016 cover star is the great-daughter of novelist Ernest Hemingway, Dree Hemingway and can been seen sporting a revealing top and teeny bottoms showing lots of skin; but still leaving something to the imagination.

Playboy is attempting a less in your face approach considering how easily accessible pornography is on the Internet and working on providing authentic representations of the women they feature. This approach is part of their strategy to attract a younger audience following the relaunch of the Playboy website according to Cory Jones, Playboy’s chief content officer.

“A year and a half ago, we relaunched as a safe-for-work site, and traffic skyrocketed 400 percent,” he said. “The average age of our visitors dropped from 47 years old to 30. It showed how the brand can still resonate.”

Inside the magazine Hemingway along with social media personality Sarah McDaniel, who also has her own cover, can be seen posed scantily clad while strategically covering themselves with their hands, bed sheets or rugs. Playboy has thrown caution to the wind letting go of the excessive airbrushing and opting for a more unadorned, point-and-shoot aesthetic for a natural and flirty look.

Playboy Enterprises Chief Executive Scott Flanders shared that new issue was a “labor of love.” Other changes include the removal of the bawdy cartoons and the racy ads from the back of the magazine as well as the phrase “Entertainment for Men,” which had been on the cover since the beginning.

The issue also contains interviews with actor James Franco, MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow, and an essay by “American Psycho” novelist Bret Easton Ellis. The March 2016 issue hits newsstands February 12th.
