Donald Glover is having himself a good year! His show Atlanta currently owns Tuesday nights and now it looks like he can add playing an iconic Star Wars character to his still growing list of accomplishments.
It’s a good day to be a blerd (black nerd) and fan of Star Wars today! Announced on the official Star Wars website today, Glover will be playing a young Lando Calrissian (originally played by Billy Dee Williams) alongside Alden Ehrenreich who will take on the role of a young Han Solo (originally played by Harrison Ford) in an upcoming solo film about our favorite intergalactic smuggler.
The upcoming film’s directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller spoke on Donald joining the cast:
We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us.These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.
We are absolutely excited for Donald and can’t wait to see him the upcoming untitled Han Solo film which is slated to hit theaters in 2018. Glover is also starring in the upcoming Marvel Studios film Spider-Man: Homecoming so we will be looking out for him in that as well.
Congrats Donald!
Stay Fly!
