On Day #4 of the Essence Music Festival, Verizon Wireless hosted an exclusive media dinner at New Orleans historic restaurant, Dooky Chase.
During the evening’s dining festivities, panelists Javier Farfan [VP of Cultural Engagement for Verizon], Artists: Goapele and native of NOLA, Luke James all discussed the effects of “Music & Technology” combined in today’s entertainment industry. The panel was curated by Krista Bourne [Regional President for the Houston/Gulf Coast Region]. Comedian and The Real‘s Loni Love was also in the building providing laughs and good times!
Attendees got their tastebuds alined from what has been the talk of the weekend, as The Best food in town. A standing ovation was in order, as Leah Chase approached the room with such grace.
At 92 years old, Leah still cooks in the kitchen full-time serving up some of the BEST creole food ever! She’s simply amazing and an inspiration to us all.
Spotted above, Leah Chase has even cooked for the President of the United States, Barack Obama, as he’s visited the restaurant on more than one occasion.
About Dooky Chase
Dooky Chase opened its doors for business starting in 1941. What was initially a sandwich shop and lottery ticket outlet in 1939 blossomed into a thriving bar and later a respected family restaurant in Treme. Founded by Emily and Dooky Chase, Sr., Dooky Chase’s Restaurant soon became the meeting place for music and entertainment, civil rights, and culture in New Orleans.
Today Dooky Chase’s remains family owned and operated. After Hurricane Katrina Dooky’s did close for two years to rebuild, but with assistance of many, Dooky Chase’s remains the premier restaurant for authentic Creole Cuisine
The Chase Family enjoys serving its regular customers, tourists, and locals. They also remain a stopping place for politicians, musicians, visual artists, and literary giants. Dooky Chase’s has had the pleasure of serving both President George W. Bush and President Barack Obama, Hank Aaron, Ernest Gaines, Bill Cosby, Quincy Jones and a list of others.

Recently, Kim Kardashian and her “Clique”, as she stated, hit up Cannes on Tuesday and had dinner that evening with a few familiar faces in tow for the festivities.
Pictured above are: British Formula One Racer/Kendall Jenner‘s Alleged Boo – Lewis Hamilton, Comedian & Talk Show Host – Steve & Marjorie Harvey, Producer of ‘The Kardashians’ franchise show/Radio Show Host — Ryan Seacrest, Rapper Tyga, Kris Jenner‘s Beau – Corey Gamble and more.
The most shocking part was seeing Steve and his wife Marjorie, and Tyga on-hand. Could this be the new “Clique.” Or what is momager Kris cooking up? We know she all about building relationships and brands! You can’t be mad at her!
But, all in all, we’re sure everyone has a good time!
Also, in case you missed it, Kim turned heads in Cannes wearing a Balmain Fall/Winter 2015 two-piece look. #WeLike!

Last Night, Team SFPL attended a special press dinner for the cast of JUMPING THE BROOM. Cast members Laz Alonso, Tasha Smith, Mike Epps and Pooch Hall hosted the dinner at New York’sPRANNA Restaurant.
We feasted on lettuce wraps and hanger steak, as the actors addressed everything from typecasting (“The characters I play may be strong women, but they aren’t the same,” said Smith) – to the brilliance of director Salim Akil. “In the next five years, Salim will be one of the top directors in Hollywood,” praised Alonso. “Not just a top black director, but one of the best in the business…period!”
The room was filled with New York’s Media Elite, All Participating in great Q&A about this Highly anticipated Film.
Being such an active Tweeter, I asked the Cast how many of them were active with their Twitter Accounts, and they all said they were the real tweeters behind their accounts.
“I love that I can interact with those who love and support me, it makes me feel soooo good” said, Smith.
“I really try to educate those who can be so negative on Twitter, I really try to teach my followers that it’s all about positivity” Pooch Chimed in.
I’d admonish you all to go see this film, a we’ve attended a Screening and it’s really a great Movie.
