One Big Happy Dysfunctional Family: ‘Empire’ Season 3, Episode 7 Recap & Memes

The drama continues on the latest episode of our favor over dramatic series Empire!

On tonight’s episode, Cookie (Taraji P.Henson) and Angelo Dubois (Taye Diggs) finally decide to give their relationship another shot. Cookie even finally gives Angelo the Cookies to consummate the relationship properly. There’s a catch though, Cookie has to meet Angelo’s mom Diana Dubois played by the iconic Phylicia Rashad at a fundraising dinner for him.

The meeting is set up but unfortunately she stands up Angelo and his mom after viewing Jamal’s “video museum” using old clips of Cookie from her childhood. The stroll down memory lane causes Cookie to lose it after it brings up old feelings of disappointment and regret. We learn through a series of flashbacks throughout the episode that Cookie’s dad kicked her out at a young age because of her being involved with Lucious. He eventually dies three days later and her sisters blamed her for the unwanted stress on his heart because Cookie who happens to be his favorite let him down.

To make up for the missed meeting Cookie pitches the idea to take Angelo and his mom out to dinner. Angelo agrees to the idea and insists that Cookie brings her sons along cause shes big on family. That plan also falls flat after all of the restaurants become suddenly booked. Cookie decides to have dinner at her house, she pulls out all the stops to impress Angelo’s mom. She has her sister Candace (Vivica A.Fox) giving her some dinner etiquette lessons and even refurnished her apartment for the dinner.

Of course this is Empire and things never go smoothly. Jamal is still battling PTSD is now using drugs given to him by his producer/lover D-Major and shows up extremely high and quite entertaining. Hakeem shows up with baby Bella and is at wit’s end because she won’t stop crying. Andre doesn’t even to bother to show and instead opts to impress his new boo Nessa by attending a memorial gathering for her big brother and bringing Freda Getz. To make matters even worse for Cookie, Lucious decides to crash the dinner with Anika.

On top of that, Diana is deathly allergic to the meal that was prepared. Totally embarrassed by her dysfunctional family Cookie decides to speak her mind. She points out the fact that her family is indeed messed up but she loves them as is. Her speech is followed by Jamal singing his new touching song “Mama” which pays tribute to Cookie and her struggle. The speech and song clearly impresses Diana who reveals that her family wasn’t any better. She also noticed the fur coats Cookie hid from her as well but nonetheless she was impressed by Cookie’s “fire”.

She did leave Cookie with one warning telling her “You just make sure that fire doesn’t burn my child”.

With everything square between his mom and Cookie, Angelo tells Cookie he’s coming back to “tuck her in” after he drops his mom home.

On The Gram: The Internet Hilariously Reacts To Andre’s Supernatural Threesome With Nessa and His Dead Wife Rhonda On Empire!

Empire was ummmm very interesting tonight to say the least. No Rhonda still didn’t have a funeral yet, BUT she definitely was very much involved in tonight’s episode. Andre has had an interesting season thus far, he isn’t really dealing with the death of his wife Rhonda very well and still sees her from time to time.

He’s also had a run in with the law after he was racially profiled and wrongfully arrested and is now in the system.

On a positive note his relationship with his manipulative father Lucious seems to be on the mend and he’s dealing with his bipolar disorder very well. Which now brings us to tonight’s episode, Andre and Lucious may be getting along but Lucious still takes shots at his son and the fact he married a white woman this sets up the hook-up of the night.

Andre on a mission to sign Shine’s artist Nessa seems to intrigue the young star after he makes an impressive pitch to her. The two wind up alone and immediately hit it off, Andre is hesitant at first as Rhonda is still on the brain.

That all changes when the Ghost of Rhonda pretty much possesses him and joins in on the fun. Yes you read that correctly we just witnessed a paranormal menage trois.

We don’t know what to say at all! Twitter immediately lost it here is a sample of the immediate reactions to the ghostly love scene:

It didn’t stop there, peep more reactions from the gram in the gallery below:

On The Gram: Rhonda Still Didn’t Get A Funeral & More Hilarious Empire Memes

We are two episodes in now for the 3rd season of Empire and no Rhonda didn’t get a funeral yet!

Hakeem and Nessa seem to be clicking but Hakeem may have second thoughts about that because of her brother Shine (Xzibit) knocked a man clean out for looking at her.

Power Season 2, Episode 8 Recap

Lucious is still dealing with the feds and trying to keep the illusion that he’s happily marred to Boo Boo Kitty. At the same time Lucious is still desperately trying to win Cookie back BUT she seems to be focused on Angelo Dubois (Taye Diggs) who is zeroing on Cookie.

Power Season 2, Episode 9 Recap

They Lyon boys all have issues, whether it’s Jamal battling PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) after being shot by Freda Gatz, Andre talking to the ghost of his dead wife Rhonda while dealing with bipolar disorder and Hakeem’s drinking problem on top of being father of a baby girl.

The scene that took the cake though was Empire touching on the current tension between African Americans and the police in this country. In a powerful scene Andre is approached by two white police officers who following up on call of someone robbing a house. Andre is cleaning out the house him and Rhonda used to live in, of course the two officers are not trying to hear it and wrestle Andre to the ground. On top of everything draw their weapons on the grieving Lyon son and the episode ends.

I’m The Real Cookie Lyon: Woman Sues Empire Creators

Looks like everyone still wants a piece of the ‘Empire’ pie. Since becoming the number 1 TV show, Fox series Empire has been getting a lot of heat because people believed that the show was based on their life. This story is no different except the person claiming the show is based on their life is not famous.

53 Year old Sophia Eggleston is suing Fox and Lee Daniels for $300 million for “stealing” her life story. In the show ‘Cookie Lyon’ was this drug lord that had went to jail and coincidentally so did Eggleston. Once out of prison Cookie puts a hit out on someone; and you guessed it so did Eggleston but she fulfilled her that hit herself and was jailed for it.

Sophia does not believe this situation is a coincidence. She reported that in 2011, she sent a copy of her memoir The Hidden Hand to Rita Miller who is a screenwriter. Supposedly Miller told Eggleston she would pitch the story to Lee Daniels.

Not only do she believe the story line is about her; but she also believe that she and Cookie fashion sense is similar. Previously, Lee Daniels said that the character Cookie was inspired by his sister and the women in life. None of the ‘Empire’ creators has spoken out about these claims; hopefully this situation can get handled before things get out of hand.
