Part 2: Monica Says: “I Genuinely Love People, I Don’t Think That’s Something You Can Buy or Teach” [SFPL TV]

In Part 2 of our interview with Monica, the singer talks about her kids being in the music business, maintaining a genuine persona, having a strong family influence growing up which shaped her attitude and more. The Code Red singer dropped a lot of jewels during her visit in NYC that we had to break it up for all to take in the good word from the beloved soul singer.

On her kids being apart of the music industry:

I would absolutely allow any of my children to be apart of the music business. I feel like everything i’ve gone through and everything i’ve learned has been with reason. And if it’s with reason then there’s a greater purpose. If the purpose is to help my children to understand this industry and to go about it right, then i’m all for it. And if they absolutely have no interest in this industry, i’m all for that too.

About staying humble and genuine in the industry:

As human beings, it’s a lot to take in when you become successful, and status changes, your monetary, everything is changing! Everything is just changing! And for me, I was fortunate that I didn’t have to go through those changes because I stayed so deeply rooted and where i’m from — it had a lot to do with my family as well.

I genuinely love people — I don’t think that’s something you can buy or teach. No matter how much training somebody might get, if you really don’t like people, and you really don’t like interacting, then this isn’t the business for you. Because people say that [it’s just about the music] but who are you selling the music to? So, you can’t separate the two.

Monica rides the wave of her forthcoming album Code Red and drops a new love-tune called “Alone In Your Heart,” all while out on 22-city tour, CODE RED Experience featuring our Digital Cover Fly Guy, Rico Love.

In the song, Monica is confessing her love to the one closest to her heart, as she strongly states: “You ain’t nobody else’s.” The singer takes ownership of being the only one is her love’s life, as no one can come in between what has been established; regardless of what anyone has to say. It’s for sure the new “Couple’s Anthem”, hence why we added the above pic to this post! It was the perfect fit.

SFPL Music: Monica feat. Missy Elliot & Laiyah – “Code Red”, Album Cover & Track Listing Revealed

Monica and Missy Elliot are back in collab-action with the new title track Code Red, which is Monica long-awaited album set to drop on Dec. 18th. The dance track also features Monica’s baby girl Laiyah, sounding just adorable as she looks!

The Polow Da Don-produced song touches on the current state of music that consistently plays on the radio, artists that are trying to crossover, and record labels plummeting, which overall; music no longer has any substance according to Monica and Missy. On that note, just turn the radio off, both exclaims.

Missy’s lyrics are as follows:

I does what I does, do what I do
Your hustle the same to me, here’s something new
We tired of that junk that you sing in the booth
You know we the truth, let me give you this proof
Call 911, better ring the alarm
When this come on they be droppin’ them bombs
We tired of hearin’ them same old five songs
Man I’ve just been wanting to turn that ish off

I swear the game might be over
Somebody give them some Folger’s
Cause you can’t be sleepin’ on Mono
And you can’t see me with no photo
I’m tryna change up the world
I’m focused on my baby girl
And even though she only one
She know you ain’t talkin’ about nothin’

Currently, prepping for the Code Red Experience Tour with Fly Cover Guy Rico Love, the songstress decided to take a little time out of her busy schedule to deliver a feel-good visual, that touches on love — and just simply being in love.

Directed by The Rite Brothers, the songstress chills on the ramp at Weezy’s skate park in Miami as the YMCMB honcho shows off a few tricks on his board, all while spitting out a few rap bars. Later, he gives Monica a one-on-one lesson on how to actually use the skateboard.
