Watch: Pusha T performs on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Premieres New Song “Sunshine”

By: Arlene Danna

King Push – Darkest Before Dawn: The Prelude

Pusha T gave powerful performance on “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” last night. Performing new track “Sunshine” along with “Crutches, Crosses, Caskets” off his new project King Push – Darkest Before Dawn: The Prelude, Pusha touched on the racial issues the country is still facing. The socially conscious song “Sunshine” is perfectly complemented by Jill Scott soulful crooning on the hook, and mentions Freddie Gray, Dom Lemon, Huey P. Newton, and Chief Keef.

When asked by Noah whether this is a theme present throughout the album Pusha T retorted:

“I’m talking about everything that’s going on in society. The good, the bad, and the ugly.”

‘King Push – The Darkest Before Dawn: The Prelude’ drops Friday December 18th via Def Jam & G.O.O.D. Music. The album is available now for preorder on iTunes.

In Fashion: Singer Kehlani Covers FADER Magazine

kehlani fader magazine cover

Singer/Songwriter Kehlani has been causing quite the Tsunami ever since she’s hit the music scene!

Going from an independent artist to then merging a major deal (Atlantic Records) but under her rules, the vocal R&B princess was destined to be a star. Her deal was solidified just before the April 2015 release of You Shoule Be Here.

This week, FADER released their official Fall Fashion cover story featuring K Music titled Kehlani Earned This. We 2nd that!

Three years ago this 20-year-old singer was living couch to couch. Now she’s a major label’s brightest hope, learning how to lead while taking care of herself.

In the issue, Fader cover all basis with the rising talent like: being one of the industry top “Mindie Artists,” how a deal was offered from Chief Keef, Rich Gang, The Game sliding through her DM’s with a gym selfie, the debut of ‘You Should Be Here’ sold 23,000 units, according to Nielsen Music, on SoundCloud its songs had been collectively streamed more than 26 million times and so much more.

Julliard graduate and producer Jahaan Sweet who worked on Kehlani’s debut album said:

“The first time I heard her, I walked in and I said, ‘Who is that singing? That’s the best voice I’ve ever heard in here.’ She had good technique, but her voice wasn’t over the top; it was subtle and honest. Then I found out she wrote her own songs. I was like, man, she’s killing!”

Kehlani speaks on her creative process:

“As a songwriter, I break down a song’s melody, hook, timing, patterns, wordplay. I study Max Martin and shit. But now, I just focus on making what I make.” For her, crafting a distinctive sound and brand trumps any one big single. “Some people’s whole objective is to make money, and you can hear it in the song,” she says. “That’s never my objective.”

Check out the FULL cover story over at FADER now.

Music Stories The Daily Word

The Daily Word Hip-Hop Edition: Chief Keef Gets A Reality Check Sentenced To Two Months In Juvenile Hall, Meek Mill Says He Is A Victim of Racial Profiling and Lupe Fiasco Cancels His Album “Food and Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt.2”

Apparently the judge didn’t love Sosa as he was sentenced Chief Keef born Keith Cozart to two months for probation violation stemming back to a gun charge he caught back in 2011. Hip-Hop’s Dennis The Menace will spend his 2 months in the Illinois Youth Center in St. Charles, Illinois. The violation occurred when Pitchfork filmed an interview with rapper at of all places a gun range. He was filmed holding a rifle which is a direct violation of his probation .  I don’t like to see our young men black men detained but in his case maybe this might be a good reality check for the rapper. With all that’s going in Chicago as far as gang violence and murders amongst black youth he needs to realize he’s got a great opportunity to distance himself away from all that nonsense. I hope he learns from this and realizes that it can all be stripped away from in an instant.

Meek Mill says he was a victim of DWB (Driving While Black) when he was pulled over in his Range Rover SUV on October 12th 2012 on his way to an album release party for debut LP.In a complaint Meek he filed he claims the Philadelphia police officers pulled him over “without cause or justification” this according to the Courthouse News Service. Meek is suing the city of Philadelphia for compensatory and punitive damages for false imprisonment, civil rights violations, invasion of privacy and civil conspiracy. Meek also claims during his time in a cell which he claims he was in for nine hours officers took photos of the MMG MC and posted them on instagram. If thats true absolutely despicable on their part , but thats the age we live in now. Meek claims the arrest made him miss out on a lot of money and a promotional appearance he was supposed to make in Atlanta. I’m definitely gonna keep my eye on this situation to see how it further pans out in the end for the young rapper.

Lupe Fiasco informed his fans via twitter that he is scrapping his album with the ridiculously long title “Food & Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album Pt.II” . Food & Liquor 2 was originally set to be released asa double album but according to Lupe Atlantic Records did not want both albums released on the same day. The outcome was Pt.1 dropping last year September and the follow up sometime this year. Welp you can forget that as Lupe canned that idea. He took to twitter and informed his fans tweeting the following

“Hello. A decision has been made that the project titled ‘F&L2 Part 2’ will be summarily cancelled for public release in 2013,” Lupe tweeted. “The title/concept for Lupe’s 2013 release will be revealed later this year.”

He then closed his twitter account. Really Lupe?  Lupe has become one enigmatic act to follow, used to be one of my favorite artist in the game but not so much anymore. Lets just hope Lupe can get back on track and give his fans what they want GOOD MUSIC.

Stay Fly!
