Fly EP: D-Win – ‘Kubrick’

It’s been over a year since the Chicago based MC D-Win released new music, but that all changes this week. The concept album Kubrick EP is the latest project from D-Win and is by far one of his most abstract bodies of work. The project was executively produced by Chicago native Tek X and is ultimately a collaborative effort from both artist.

Given the most recent events that have taken place in America, the past year was enough motivation to release the project. ‘Kubrick’ is a concept album that explores current issues in America; racism, police brutality, and manipulation of the media.

The EP is titled after legendary-and often labeled at times controversial-film director Stanley Kubrick. The album was inspired by Kubrick’s methods, which drew you in, but unexpectedly gave you a message from something you wouldn’t expect.

The current single “Walking On Water” was released last week along with a solid visual created by Nick Mecca of Visual Mecca. The single is a glimpse into the overall message of the ‘Kubrick’ EP. The project is provocative and offers listeners an honest point of view of what it’s like to be young and black in America in 2015. The release of the EP was created with the hopes to enlighten and inspire those who are seeking a shift in the right direction.

Fly Visual: D-Win feat. Sciren – “Walking On Water”

Chicago based MC D-Win is taking a different approach to his music this time around and has shown that in his first video from his latest project Kubrick EP. The song is titled “Walking On Water” and features vocals from Indianapolis singer/ songwriter Sciren and was produced by Tek X.

In the video, the fight between good and evil is depicted and the use of clips from the current news outlets shows just how much of an impact the media can have on people. The song speaks of the use of subtle symbolism, police brutality, and the importance of being aware of what’s going on around you, which was directed by Nick Visuals of Visual Mecca.

The forthcoming project ‘Kubrick EP’ was inspired by the work of legendary film director Stanley Kubrick and explores serious topics like politics, racism, and other current events taking place in the world. It was also entirely produced by Tek X and is set to drop on December 14th.

New Video: D-Win – “Chicago” feat. Dott Richey (Produced By Tek X)

Rapper D-Win jumps back onto the music scene again with a new visual for his latest single titled “Chicago,” which was produced by Tek X and features singer-songwriter Dott Richey delivering a dope vocal hook, paired with horns and synthesizers filling in spaces — while telling a story of day to day life in the Metropolis and the lack of unity amongst its citizens.

In the video, depicted is the current state of Chicago from interactions with police, gang activity, and R.I.P. memorials from around the city. D-Win and Dott Richey give enthusiastic performances in their scenes at the studio and in the stairwell, shot and directed by Tek X himself.

In the cover story, Brandy speaks about her long-lived career, finding her purpose, what makes her happy, starring in the Broadway show CHICAGO, Whitney Houston and more.

Quotes from Brandy:

I don’t view myself as a celebrity. It’s all about the intention. It’s not about me. I thought that it was before. But, now I know that it is about other people. Who else could it be about?

I stepped into something that I was born to do and I didn’t know it. I walked on the stage and my entire life reawakened. It’s about making people feel good about themselves and helping people dream. The vain stuff, like the pictures I took for this magazine and being in shows, I love! But it is all just the polish. I’m not a celebrity. A star guides. There is a difference.

About Whitney Houston:

I think about her every day,” she admits. “She is everywhere. She is with me all the time. She’s always there. Whitney was the possibility of dreams coming true. I loved her. I loved her personality. I loved the way she danced. I loved her smile and her voice.
