FLY Review: Fate of the Furious Proves You Can Teach An Old Dog New Tricks!

Furious 7 left fans of the storied franchise saying there is no way they can top the action/insanity that they witnessed in the James Wan directed film. Director F.Gary Gray and producer/star Vin Diesel are up for the challenge with the latest installment The Fate of the Furious.

Letty (MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ) connects with Dom (VIN DIESEL) in “The Fate of the Furious.” On the heels of 2015’s “Furious 7,” one of the fastest movies to reach $1 billion worldwide and the sixth-biggest global title in box-office history, comes the newest chapter in one of the most popular and enduring motion-picture serials of all time.

F8 immediately sets the tone with Dom (Vin Diesel) and his new wife Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) celebrating their honeymoon in Havana, Cuba. You get the vibe of a Fast & Furious film immediately as bikini clad women grace the screen and loud music blares through the theater speakers. The action kicks in instantly when Dom’s cousin gets caught up with a local gangster who wants to repossess his rusty looking hot rod. Cousin Dom of course isn’t here for the strong picking on the weak and challenges his cousin’s bully to a street race.

VIN DIESEL stars as Dom in “The Fate of the Furious.” On the heels of 2015’s “Furious 7,” one of the fastest movies to reach $1 billion worldwide and the sixth-biggest global title in box-office history, comes the newest chapter in one of the most popular and enduring motion-picture serials of all time.

We are then treated to a heart racing, unbelievable race scene where Dom puts on full display his amazing driving skills while facing some ridiculous odds that will surely get a rise out Fast and Furious fans. To make the moment even more cheesy, we even get some classic “Domisms” after the race is over and he earns the gangsters respect. As rapidly as things pick up in the film they also go left pretty fast. Dom’s beautiful honeymoon gets weird when he is confronted by the beautiful yet very sinister hacker Cipher (Charlize Theron).

Dom (VIN DIESEL) is recruited by Cipher (CHARLIZE THERON) in “The Fate of the Furious.” On the heels of 2015’s “Furious 7,” one of the fastest movies to reach $1 billion worldwide and the sixth-biggest global title in box-office history, comes the newest chapter in one of the most popular and enduring motion-picture serials of all time.

She makes the fearless leader an offer he can’t refuse after she shows him some footage on a cellphone that leaves Dom looking like he just got punched in the gut. Dom is now left with a tough decision he has to make and at the same time is called back into action by his new friend Hobbs (Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson). La Familia reunites for a new mission when they have to retrieve an EMP device, which is light work for them. Things seem to be going according to plan until Dom pulls a fast one on his family and in my best *Dwayne Johnson voice* goes rogue.

La Familia now faces their biggest threat ever in their former leader teaming up with Cipher. Down two members with Brian (Paul Walker) now being strictly a family man and Dom now terrorizing them. With the help of Mr.Nobody (Kurt Russell) the gang gets a new boost from teammates, F7’s villain Ian Shaw (Jason Statham) and rookie to the Fast and Furious universe Eric Reisner (Scott Eastwood) whom the team affectionately calls “Little Nobody”. The team must now race against time to prevent a worldwide catastrophe and stop/save their once fearless leader Dom.All the while they barely leave the driver seats of the cars. AMAZING!

Final Verdict

Fate of the Furious is still the same old dog we have come to love with some new tricks. Fans of the franchise will love this film as the explosions and car stunts have been taken to another level. While some scenes are just ridiculous e.g. chasing down a Russian ambassador on the streets of NYC carefree or Hobbs pushing a torpedo with his bare hands you quickly understand that this comes with the territory.

You will also notice the scarcity of scenes involving both The Rock and Vin Diesel which also adds fuel to the whole feud rumor. BUT to make up for it, The Rock and Statham’s dynamic easily makes your forget all about that and have you asking for more of Hobbs and Shaw. Tej (Chris “Ludacris” Bridges) and Roman (Tyrese Gibson) take their on-screen camaraderie to another level and bring in the comedic factor to the story. Tyrese does a lot more yelling this time around and even gets called out for in the film. Charlize Theron brings in some new flavor to the Fast & Furious universe as the new baddie on the block but is not as memorable as previous films antagonist sadly. Letty does her part as the wife who hasn’t given up hope on her husband and Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel) fits right in with the gang.

If you are looking for just pure entertainment and could care less about things making much sense then Fate of the Furious is for you. As far as action is concerned F8 surpasses it’s predecessor easily with the use of remote-controlled vehicles, amazing sets and locations, prison brawls, strategically placed wrecking balls, mega explosions and of course a nuclear submarine.

Dom’s reasoning for going rogue seems a bit forced but it still works, especially thanks to one scene with Statham’s character Ian Shaw (I won’t spoilt that for you). Fate of the Furious is still a fun ride and should go down as one of the franchise’s best films. Will this film bring in a billion like F7 though? Probably and I wouldn’t be surprised if it did. Still, Fate of the Furious deserves all the money that is coming its way and should definitely be on list of things to do this upcoming weekend.

Watch The New Ridiculously Action-Packed Trailers For ‘The Fate of the Furious’

How do you top a tank as seen in the last installment of the Fast and Furious movie franchise? Add the ability to remotely hack into automobiles and add a submarine this time around.

It would seem as the idea of well-known good guys turning on their friends will be the major theme in action flicks this year (see the next Transformers movie). In F8 the leader of our favorite pack of skillful drivers, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) has gone “rogue” and join forces with the extremely beautiful hacker Cipher (Charlize Theron) to wreak havoc.

With their former leader now becoming a thorn in their side, Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) is now charge and heads up the operation to bring down Cipher and bring in Dominic.

The gang all returns but they are getting some help in the form of their former nemesis from F7, Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) who has no qualms with taking on Dominic. F8 looks to take it to another level and from the looks of the trailer Director, F.Gary Gray has accomplished that goal. FLY Review: The Huntsman: Winter’s War

Chris Hemsworth reprises his role as The Huntsman in the prequel/sequel to Snow White and The Huntsman. This movie removes Kristen Stewart’s Snow White from the picture and pretty much serves as an origin story about The Huntsman and how he came to be the daunting hero that he was in the first film.

The film opens up with a young or at least we think she is Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron)  who we learned from the first film has a strong lust for power. She uses her beauty and her powerful magic to seduce kings and woos them eventually killing them, taking over their kingdoms. We eventually meet her sister Freya (Emily Blunt) whom at the moment is in love with a man who belongs to another woman. Her powers have yet to be discovered leading the young princess to doubt her ever discovering her magical abilities. Theron who seems to always shine as the devious Ravenna warns her sister about becoming to attached to the man she is expecting a child with but Freya isn’t trying to hear it.

A terrible act committed by the man she thought she loved causes Freya to lose it and she unleashes her chilling (literally) powers out onto the world. With her newly discovered magical gifts Freya sets out to build her own Kingdom that in true fairy-tale fashion is a love free zone and only fit for the cold-hearted (*coughs* sounds like a certain Disney animated film) and raise her own powerful army of soulless men and women to protect it and help conquer other Kingdoms. Freya’s plan to help raise such an army is to build it using the kidnapped children of her so called enemies. She raises them to hate anything doing to love and detached themselves they ever cared about except her of course. The  children eventually grow and  become her Huntsmen who are pretty damn good at doing what they do best and that’s fight for their Queen or adopted mother.

Freya, Sara and Eric: Via: Universal Pictures

Freya has a pretty good formula going on but as we know in all fairy-tale’s LOVE CONQUERS ALL eventually. Her two best Eric and Sara (Jessica Chastain) who were both kidnapped by Freya at the same time take a liking to each other and secretly fall in love.

Eric and Sara: Universal Pictures

Of course when dealing with a powerful ice magic wielding Queen nothing stays secret for long.

Freya banishes Eric for the committing the crime of falling in love in her kingdom, which now leads us to the story where he wandered into war between Snow White and Freya’s evil sister Ravenna. Ravenna is thought to be dead is an after thought at the moment but her powerful mirror is still being sought after Freya.

Eric and bunch of very hilarious dwarves set on an adventure to prevent Freya from getting her hands on the mirror. Eric is eventually reunited with his lost love Sara whom he thought was dead thank’s to Freya’s magic.

Taking cues from Lord of The Rings the very unlikely crew sets out to destroy the all-powerful and all-knowing mirror but have no clue that Ravenna is still alive inside the mirror.

The Huntsman: Winter’s War story picks up very slow but when it does is enjoyable at times .You will find yourself chuckling at the hilarious back and forth banter between the Dwarves and Eric when it takes place.

Where the movie really wins is it’s amazing special effects and of course the costume design by Colleen Atwood. Our favorites hands down are Ravenna and Freya’s gowns they were simply amazing to look at when they were on-screen.

Final Verdict

The Huntsman: Winter’s War is much better movie than it’s predecessor but that isn’t really saying too much. BUT that doesn’t mean it’s a waste of time either so fellas if your lady is into fairy-tale’s and love and all that stuff this movie is a perfect date film. We were just really extremely glad Kristen Stewart always confused looking self wasn’t in this film.

Fly News: Charlize Theron Is Joining The Cast Of Fast & ‘Furious 8’

Charlize Theron is the latest star to join the Fast & Furious franchise as their “greatest adversary ever” for the next installment in the saga Furious 8. The announcement was made via the films Facebook account.

While details surrounding the plot of the next film are scarce the studio tapped Theron for the role early on, but she wouldn’t commit without having read a finished draft of the script. Even with a draft of the script completed, the Mad Max: Fury Road star couldn’t fully commit due to issues with her schedule. It looks like Theron was meant to play Furious 8‘s villain as her schedule cleared up and she’s 100% on board.

Production for the film is scheduled to begin this summer with the release date planned for April 14, 2017. F. Gary Gray will be directing with Neil Moritz and Vin Diesel as producers. Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, and Michelle Rodriguez will be reprising their roles.

Theron can be seen in the upcoming film The Huntsman: Winter’s War in theaters April 22.
