The award show returns to the Big Apple this year. Grande landed 5 nominations along with Drake who nabbed Video of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Male Video, and Best Art Direction. Kanye West received two nominations for “Famous” while his foe Taylor Swift on the other hand garnered zero nominations. The pop star’s “1989” album came out in 2014 so her recent singles “Wildest Dreams,” “Out of the Woods” and “New Romantics” were ineligible.

West’s infamous track features naked images in the likeness of the rapper and other celebrities, including his wife Kim Kardashian, Swift, Donald Trump, and Bill Cosby. ‘Famous” is at the heart of the current feud between the Chicago emcee and Swift. Kardashian recently delivered receipts; leaking audio of Swift giving West her blessing to the lyrics, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex.” The “Wildest Dreams” singer originally denied West’s claims he reached out to her prior to releasing the song. She quickly changed her tune, now claiming West did not play her the entire track or reveal the lyrics in full omitting the line, “Why? I made that bitch famous.”

West’s video for the controversial “Famous,” garnered the Video of the Year nomination and will be facing-off with Beyonce’s “Formation,” Adele’s “Hello, “Justin Bieber‘s “Sorry,” and Drake’s “Hotline Bling.” Newcomers Bryson Tiller, Desiigner, Zara Larsson, Lukas Graham, and DNCE, will battle it out for the Best New Artist award.

The late David Bowie, who died from cancer earlier this year, earned four nominations in the categories of Best Direction, cinematography, art direction and editing for “Lazarus.” The video featured the icon frail and lying in bed, eyes bandaged and was released several days before his Jan. 10 death.

Others artists who earned multiple nods include Alessia Cara, Calvin Harris, Coldplay, Desiigner, Fergie, FKA Twigs, and The Weeknd.

Voting opened online Tuesday. Nominees for best song of the summer have yet to be announced. The MTV VMA’s will be airing live from Madison Square Garden on August 28 at 9 p.m. ET. Will you be tuning in?

Philly’s Own, R&B Singer David Tru Drops New Single “LMK” [New Music]

The constantly evolving world of R&B continues to bend genres and generate promising new talent from all over the world. Envelope pushing artists like Bryson Tiller, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Tory Lanez and August Alsina are just a few of the names leading the charge, changing the sound and energy of R&B landscape. Today, we wanted to put an impressive new artist on your radar, looking to etch his name amongst the current crop of emerging crooners. Introducing, David Tru.

The singer/songwriter chooses to remain quiet on his background, opting to let his music speak for itself. The Blackroom artist brings his A-game on his upcoming first single, “LMK” aka “Let Me Know” produced by SumYunghai.

The official song is a mid-tempo track built on an instantly catchy, call-and-response hook. Taking the chivalrous route, Tru keeps it meaningful and edgy, showcasing his charismatic presence. The singer, effortlessly floats over the bouncy crossover track, illustrating the lengths he’s willing to go to cater to every single need/problem in his lady’s life.

Check out David’s track above.

David Gibbs better known as David Tru, a stage name and moniker bestowed upon him for no other reason than his dedication to keep it real and true to the music. Growing up as the youngest in a family of 5 boys and only his mother present, Tru faced hardships at an early age and used that to channel his energy into being an all around athlete excelling at track and field, basketball, football and power-lifting. At the age of 16, David shifted his energy and attention from sports to focus solely on music and expressing himself with just a pen and notepad. After seeing positive reactions to his voice and relatable song lyrics, Tru began to develop his identity and found his voice as an R&B vocalist and writer.

In 2015, linked up with Blackroom Management and became their first signed artist to represent the brand. In just a short period of time with The Blackroom, the multifaceted David Tru paired his own grind and talent with the label’s work ethic, production and professionalism and began to work on projects to showcase his vocals and abilities as a songwriter and performer. The young artist lived up to his hype with upcoming tracks like “LMK”, “Tokyo” and “Aftermath.” Tru strives to make music with substance that people can relate to. His focus is wired tightly to the future and his genuine sound that he brings to the game.

SFPL Artist Spotlight: Sabatahj – “Old Skoo”

Sabatahj is a super talented artist out of Indiana (he grew up right across the bridge from Bryson Tiller‘s home of Louisville, Kentucky), who kind of exudes the sensual and melodic sensibilities of The Dream.

Midwestern newcomer Sabatahj is the heir to an age-old tradition. With a vast imagination, the young adept multi-instrumentalist, producer, rapper, singer, and songwriter has retooled smooth 90s RnB with 80s funk grooves in his latest single, “Old Skoo.”

With Roger Troutman-inspired talk-box melodies and sensual southern finesse, the song is a slow ride, retro-futuristic tale about a man trying to convince his lady friend into taking a joyride. “Old Skoo” follows the success of Sabatahj’s 2013 cult-championed Guilty Pleasures mixtape.

Fly Interview: Cool Amerika Says “Bow Wow Had The Meaning of ‘DAB’ Wrong, It Comes From Your Style, Your Swag”

New up & coming duo, Cool Amerika stopped by the SFPL Studio to talk about their new music & videos, T.I., OutKast, Bow Wow, the REAL meaning of the dance craze — #DAB, internet beef: Erykah vs. Iggy Azalea and much more.

I get what he’s saying but he had it wrong. DAB came from how you dress, how you put it on, but it has to be in you — not on you. You be in mirror checking yourself out like….Wooooo (hence “I look fresh”) [insert DAB]!

With a new album and mixtape on the way in 2016, the fellas advise us of features from the likes of; Wayne Wonder, B.o.B, recently being released from jail — rapper & 1/3 of MigosOffset and more.
