RLJ Entertainment / Urban Movie Channel hosted a private press screening on March 31st at the Bryant Park Hotel in New York City for the film BLACKBIRD, as well as to meet and engage with the film’s director Patrik-Ian Polk (The Skinny, Noah’s Ark).
Christopher Witherspoon, Entertainment Editor with The Grio hosted and moderated the Q&A, and Traci Blunt with RLJ Entertainment made some remarks about how excited RLJ Entertainment is to bring the film to a wide audience.
Actress Tatyana Ali was a special guest of the evening, attending the screening to show her support.
Once the film concluded, director Patrik-Ian Polk participated in a Q&A, and spoke at length about the film and the themes involved, what it means to bring more black and gay films to the big screen, as well as the process it took for him to bring this film to fruition, and how he came to cast Mo’Nique, Isaiah Washington, and Julian Walker in their roles.
Several press outlets asked questions of Patrick to discuss in more depth about his vision for the film, and how he is aiming to break down stereotypes in the black and gay communities.
Congrats to Patrick-Ian Polk on a great film!
