Back To Back: Future Moves Closer To Making Billboard Chart History

Future is on cloud 9 this week! The ATL rapper has reached No. 1 on the Billboard album chart for a fourth time this week. Next week, he may make chart history with a fifth album.

According to The New York Times:

Future’s self-titled Epic Records released album (Feb. 17), went directly to No. 1 with 109 million streams and 60,000 sales in its first week, per data from Nielsen. In the new “multi-metric consumption” formula used by Nielsen and Billboard to gather the various ways that listeners now access music, “Future” had the equivalent of 140,000 full album sales. It is his fourth time at number 1 spot, after DS2, Evol and What a Time to Be Alive, the dope collaboration effort with Drake.

In even bigger news, next week may be even greater for Future Hendrix. His second surprise new album this year, HNDRXX, was released on this past Friday, and according to early data collected by BuzzAngle — a Nielsen competitor that publishes daily sales updates — it has the advantage to be numero uno next week. If that happens, Future would be the first artist in the six-decade history of the Billboard 200 to have two new albums make their debuts at #1 on successive charts. John Mayer‘s release would be the only competition that could block him from the top spot.

Either way, it goes, a congrats is in order to Future for providing great content Back-to-Back!

ABIR Celebrates Everyone That Are Making Things Happen With “Girls” [New Music]

After riding the “WAVE” with Masego on her debut release earlier this year, ABIR is back at it again with, “GIRLS,” which was premiered via Billboard.

Never one to bite her tongue, the 21-year-old Moroccan-born singer/songwriter sips tea and throws shade towards all the catty girls and BS boys that she’s crossed paths with. However, ABIR insists that “this record isn’t about being bitter or hating on anyone – it’s actually a celebration and an anthem for all the young girls and boys making sh*t happen!”

ABIR doubled down on that notion by enlisting a dozen of NYC’s most influential young girls for a one-of-a-kind social media campaign on Instagram, featuring London Zhiloh, Minahil Ayazm, and seemingly every “IT” girl of Summer 16. Having already shared the stage this year with The-Dream, DAWN, Elhae and many others, expect ABIR to keep the shows coming.

Check out the track above.

Zayn Malik Covers Billboard And Gives Very Honest Interview

Former boy bander and member of One Direction (1D), Zayn Malik covered Billboard’s January 2016 issue. He sat down with Chris Martins for a very revealing interview on the singer’s life following his hasty exit from the hugely successful British boy band.

Malik was known as the “Bradford Bad Boy” after his hometown in Northern England in 1D. His departure from the band appears to have been pending for a few months. It began in November 2014 when the singer missed a 1D concert and scheduled interview. Four months later he cried onstage during a performance in Hong Kong and a few days later Malik left the tour due to “stress.” The following week he officially walked away from the band.

Upon leaving the 1D, Malik sought comfort and similar surroundings.

“I went home. I seen my mum, who cooked me some great food. I ate for three weeks because I’d lost so much weight in the band. I seen my sisters and put my dad’s sheepskin on — I walked around and everyone thought I was him. Nobody bothered me. It was good for my soul to be back in Bradford.”

It’s been eight months since Malik’s departure from 1D and his fans are growing anxious as they wait on new music from the British crooner.

“My fans are giving me shit every day,” he says. “Like, ‘Where the f— is your music? You’ve been at it for months. Give us something.’ ”

Fans will have to continue to wait, as the album isn’t due out until early spring through RCA. When describing Malik as an artist RCA chairman/CEO Peter Edge had this to say,

“It doesn’t feel like choreographed pop. When Zayn was in the band, he had all these songs he was writing, and plans to do his own music. It just feels like maybe he’s further along than the others.”

His manager Sarah Stennett described Malik as,“incredibly sensitive, but also very alpha.” Among his collaborators you’ll find James “Malay” Ho, who worked on the Grammy-winning Channel Orange by Frank Ocean. Malay describes their atypical creative process, which was unlike what Malik had become accustomed to.

“We went camping for a week in the Angeles Forest — set up a generator and a tent so we could track in the woods. It was the complete opposite of what he’d been doing. We had the gas grill, BB guns, bows and arrows. It was a shittin’-in-the-woods-type thing.”

Malik’s newfound freedom allows him to focus on doing things which spark and support creativity. His Bel Air and English homes are sanctuaries that act as outlets or facilitate his creative expression. When speaking on his new bungalow Malik divulged,

“I like to graffiti my house. The garden goes up three stories into the mountain. There are these walls that look white from one side, but when you walk up the stairs, the inside is all graffiti.”

While staying in his country home he says,

“I might write. I might paint. I might have a barbecue. I might chill in the tepee.”

Malik may be in a better place creating music he best relates to, but he did learn a thing or two from his time in 1D.

“Status. The capability to restrain certain things I would want to do. I also learned it’s good to keep friends. Because you don’t know when you’re going to make new ones, so you should probably just keep the old ones.”

Zayn Malik’s full interview is available in January’s issue of Billboard. Malik also discusses his upbringing, Muslim faith, the relationship with his former band mates, and what he looks for in a potential girlfriend. Get a behind the scenes look into the cover shoot below.

The Word: Safaree Samuels Wishes Nicki Minaj And Meek Mill “The Best”, “It’s Nothing But Love”

Safaree Samuels sat down with Billboard’s Adelle Platon to discuss his latest single “Can’t Lie” featuring Olaf. Off of his It Is What It Is, Vol. 2. mixtape, the Brooklyn rapper/songwriter revealed that the track is about finally finding the one and was inspired by a friend’s perspective.

Of course Samuels was asked about the current state of his relationship with ex Nicki Minaj and her current beau Philadelphia emcee Meek Mill.

“Once you’re happy, that’s all that matters, you know? Nobody wants to be sad and miserable, so if you’re happy and you’re really happy, you know, God bless.”

Samuels went even further by stating that if he ever ran into the couple there would be no awkwardness on his side.

“I just wish ‘em all the best. You know I don’t have an ill feeling going towards anyone. From my side, it’s nothing but love. I’m the type of guy, whether you like it or not, I’m gonna still say “hi” to you. It’s on you to where you wanna take it. I don’t have an ill will bone in my body. It’s nothing but God bless and protect the love.”

Rumors were circulating and TMZ reported in back November, that Samuels planned on suing Minaj for his share of profits from her albums The Pink Print, Pink Friday, and Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded as well as her single “Only.” Looks like the rumors may not be true and that as far as Samuels is concerned there’s no bad blood between. We’ll just have to wait and see how things play out.
