August Alsina Finds His New Normal For Love, Drops “DRUGS” Visual

Love is in the air and August Alsina is taking it all in.

Today, the soulful New Orleans crooner debuts his new visual for his newly hit single “Drugs.” Taking place on what seems to be one of NOLA’s lagoon scenic areas, Alsina is pictured laying flat on a wooden boat filled with different textures of flowers amongst a sea full of aquatic woman. Rocking tribal paint on his face and tattooed chest, August later joins them in the water but later comes up for air.

The singer tells Rap-Up:

I realized how addicted to certain ways of living life I was, addicted to chaos, drama, confusion. Lately, for me, it’s been about breaking the cycle and creating a new normal. That new normal is love. I have a newfound addiction. Through love and beautiful women, I’ve been able to find myself, reach higher places within myself.”

August’s album following the single title is set to drop this year.

David Gibbs better known as David Tru, a stage name and moniker bestowed upon him for no other reason than his dedication to keep it real and true to the music. Growing up as the youngest in a family of 5 boys and only his mother present, Tru faced hardships at an early age and used that to channel his energy into being an all around athlete excelling at track and field, basketball, football and power-lifting. At the age of 16, David shifted his energy and attention from sports to focus solely on music and expressing himself with just a pen and notepad. After seeing positive reactions to his voice and relatable song lyrics, Tru began to develop his identity and found his voice as an R&B vocalist and writer.

In 2015, linked up with Blackroom Management and became their first signed artist to represent the brand. In just a short period of time with The Blackroom, the multifaceted David Tru paired his own grind and talent with the label’s work ethic, production and professionalism and began to work on projects to showcase his vocals and abilities as a songwriter and performer. The young artist lived up to his hype with upcoming tracks like “LMK”, “Tokyo” and “Aftermath.” Tru strives to make music with substance that people can relate to. His focus is wired tightly to the future and his genuine sound that he brings to the game.

This Thing Called Life now lives on all music streaming platforms, and in stores. New Orleans own, August Alsina delivers an emotional visual in celebration of his new album entitled “Song Cry,” which is the first official single from the project.

FLY INTERVIEW: AUGUST ALSINA TALKS NEW MUSIC, LOVE/HATE WITH SOCIAL MEDIA, HIS BELOVED BROTHER, USHER, 2 CHAINZ & MORE WITH SFPL TV

In the video, directed by Payne Lindsey whose curated eight of August’s videos thus far, finds the talented singer stranded in a misty desert where his motorcycle breaks-down on side of the road.

As Alsina walks and sings in through the deserted streets, he stumbles upon a motel where he can rest. From inside and out his room, August deals with pains of emotions through song, as he sings in the midst of raindrops with the accents of a freestanding ballerina, tears of blood streaming from their eyes, to clouds of rose petals falling in his room, ending with him in a bed full of roses, to standing in front of a burning wooden casket.

August also spoke with Billboard about losing his temporary loss of eye-sight back in May, but has now regained his vision:

“It was a very humbling experience. You take that for granted, waking up and being able to see. He points toward a woman in a booth 15 feet away. “I can see her,” he says, “but I wouldn’t be able to tell you what she looked like.”

Within the past couples of months, August has had quite the life experience ride; from illnesses, to even family troubles. Now, going through so much hardship, it’s quite clear that Alsina just wants a normal life, a new path, a new road to redemption.

Fly Interview: August Alsina Talks New Music, Love/Hate with Social Media, His Beloved Brother, Usher, 2 Chainz & more with SFPL TV

august-alsina-sfpl-tv
In the midst of prepping for his forthcoming album release of This Thing Called Life and his current single “Song Cry”, which is taking over the radio waves and charts, singer/songwriter August Alsina stopped by SFPL TV to catch us up on a few about his music, how he really feels about social media, touring with Usher, 2 Chainz being the first to put him on tour, his brother, personal happenings in his life, and so much more.

About his new album #TTCL:

It’s really, man…”My Journey.” Life has taken me places. I mean, up, down, all around…just taking me places. The good, the bad, i’ve been through it — i’ve dealt with it all. We born, we got put here, we don’t really know what this is all about. We’re all just here trying to figure it out — trying to be a better version of ourselves each and every day. And that’s what my album is, it’s about the Journey. Me trying to figure out “This Thing Called Life.”

What would a conversation with his deceased brother be like today if he were alive:

Ahhhhh…it would probably be very stupid [he says jokily, as he laughs with a huge smile]. You know, my brother always believed in me. Like ALWAYS. To the point where he used to lie to people actually like: “Yeah, my brother got a deal, wu wuu wuuu” — before I even had a deal. He use to just tell people: “Yeah, my brother got a deal, he doing this, and he doing that.” So, I think the conversation would be: “I proud of you n****, like this is dope what you doing.” You know, I think it would be an “I always knew” kind of conversation. I mean, he knew and believed in me before I did; believe in myself.

dj-khaled-wyclef

Last Night In NYC….The We The Best honcho DJ Khaled took over Premier Studios right in the heart of NYC for his exclusive listening session of the upcoming October 23rd release of I Changed A Lot.

DSC_0190_new

The room was filled with major press, media and industry affiliates as the heat-maker played a few tunes from the new project. Music genius Wyclef Jean eventually walked through the door, as he surprised everyone in attendance with his presence. No one had no idea that he would be there — as the room stood still. It was almost like God walked-in.

First Lady of the We The Best Records and Khaled’s female protege, Miami native Steph Lecor was also in the building in support of her boss. Her newest single “Saturday” is gaining quite the radio presence as we speak.

DJ Khaled was very focused as he presented some pretty heavy hits. To be quite honest, he never disappoints when it comes to consistent #1 songs. The album will feature the likes of: Chris Brown, Fetty Wap, August Alsina, Future, Rick Ross, Ace Hood, John Legend, French Montana and more. Stand out tracks: “Gold Slugs”, “I Ride”, “Most High”, “I Don’t Play About My Paper”, “Everytime We Come Around”, “I Lied” and the list goes on.
