Fly Visual: 6LACK Heads to the Strip Club to Clear His Mind in “Ex-Calling”

Fresh off releasing his debut FREE 6LACK, 6LACK — pronounced black — delivers the visual for “Ex-Calling.”

The Atlanta rhymer/singer takes viewers to the strip club in a grainy black-and-white clip as he attempts to get his mind off a past relationship gone awry.

Still dealing with the feelings from the break-up, perfectly conveyed by the dark and moody aesthetic of the video combined with his somber tone; we see 6LACK make it rain as women gyrate up and down the pole.

“Ex Calling” appeared on 6LACK’s debut which dropped last month and is a remix to Future’s “Perkys Calling” off Purple Reign. Watch it below.

SFPL’s Artist Spotlight: From The UK To ATL, Angel Debuts New Visual “Fvxk With You” feat. Rich Homie Quan, EP ‘HER’ Out Now!

Today on our ‘Artist Spotlight,’ rising UK R&B singer/songwriter Angel recently released his debut EP Her. To support the special project, the talented artist also premiered the visual for “Fvxk With You” featuring Rich Homie Quan, which is the official single.

In the video, Angel makes his way over to the southern streets of ATL as he and Quan link up for a local block party.

Check it out above. ‘

The EP is a pre-cursor to a debut album due next year on Motown/Capitol in the US. He’s worked with the likes of Swizz Beatz (who is a mentor of his), Ed Sheeran, Jeremih, Jason Derulo, Dizzee Rascal, Stormzy, and more, and has recently been in the studio with the likes of Kehlani, Prince Charlez (worked on Rihanna’s Anti), and Pop and Oak (Nicki Minaj).

He’s also penned songs for UK staples like Pixie Lott and Cheryl Cole (of Girls Aloud), and wrote the UK #1 single, “Green Light” by grime music collective Roll Deep. Angel got his start singing at home, growing up in West London. His father is Tenadi Charles, a popular figure in the UK reggae scene, who’s played with Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Kaya and more.

Angel (real name Sirach Charles) formed a band with his siblings growing up, The Charles Family and ended up touring across the UK, before starting to make a name for himself in the studio. He released his solo debut single in 2012, which reached the top 10 of the UK charts. Already a festival mainstay in Europe, with ‘HER’ and his upcoming debut, he is shaping up to become a household name across both sides of the atlantic.

Kori James Redefines Atlanta’s Sound w/ New ‘Tomorrow’ EP + ‘N.E. Way’ Visual

unnamed-2

Just off the heels of SFPL‘s Artist Spotlight, emerging artist Kori James has just unleashed his new EP entitled Tomorrow along with a fresh visual for his single “N.E. Way.” Born to the streets of Miami , the FAMU musician has created a world of music, thoughts and ideas that will lead his generation into a new era of sound and visual.

Kori on the ‘Tomorrow’ EP:

“Our thoughts. Our actions. Our prayers. Our sins– they all shape our future, our tomorrow. Life seems to be a constant battle between bad and good, joy and pain, love and hate. Sometimes, it feels like the balance is so off you can’t even recognize the world you’re living in. But, there’s always tomorrow. We all work for tomorrow. For our families, for our communities, for ourselves. The Tomorrow EP is my message to all who will listen — it all will pay off tomorrow. The sleepless nights. The days on end that tend to blend together. When the world overlooks you and counts you out, keep going. Don’t quit. It will all pay off tomorrow.”

He continues:

“The Tomorrow EP was born during a break in my creativity. I had a lot of moments where I faced crippling doubt about whether I was good enough to do music at all. I don’t have the sound that’s on the radio right now, and at 29, I’ve yet to get the coveted placement that solidifies a songwriter in the industry. I seriously contemplated conforming. Working my 9 to 5, and living for the few moments that made that reality “okay,” knowing it never made sense for me. That space was becoming even smaller, more claustrophobic, once you consider the rate so many black men, unarmed and innocent, have been murdered recently. My fear of becoming the next hashtag made me question whether any of my efforts would be in vain, if my fate was to end up dead at the hands of an officer. But, the melodies kept coming. I continued to create, most times, without any direction beyond raw emotion. I continued to write, and Tomorrow kept coming.”

Kori on ‘”N.E. Way”:

“The visual for “N.E. Way” ties into Tomorrow’s theme of time. The time it takes to finally believe in something, the time it takes to wait for that something to manifest, then, the time it takes to heal if that something happens to leave. There is a lot of warping in the video. The subject matter is sensual and urgent. I wanted to go back in time and obviously since no one has revealed a time machine, we had to find a different way to get it done. The projector scene shows older movies that influenced the way society views sex, relationships, and intimacy through art. The other throwback was a nod to LL Cool J “Doin’ It” video. The peepshow scene was always iconic to me and to be able to recreate and show respect to a timeless work, is dope af to me.”

The visual was directed by Zu (@beyuism). Check it out HERE.

SFPL’s Artist Spotlight: Atlanta Unveils Its Hidden Storyteller: Introducing Will Hill + ‘Doors’ EP

unnamed-6

Every so often an artist is actually talented, connected with their fans and able to stand out in a crowed city of noise. Will Hill is the protocol son in the evolution of Atlanta’s forever-growing music scene.

Will Hill & producer FR23SH teamed up to create the Doors EP. The 5-track project takes listeners through a rollercoaster of Hill’s emotions and his obstacles as he tries to overcome them. As the different ‘Doors,’ opportunities & relationships, open and close in his life, he tries to find his purpose in the world and intends to continue his rise to the top.

unnamed-5

Will says:

“I just wanted to tell a story that could resonate with people, I feel like I did that. There has been a lot that has gone on in my life since I last released a project, lots of things that have come and gone. I feel like Doors was the perfect metaphor for those things.

He also adds:

“There’s a short film coming soon!”

A quick look at the meaning behind the songs graced on Will Hill’s project:

Knock: The introduction track gives insight into Will’s return – and for some, an introduction. The song informs listeners of Will’s purpose and his new awakening.
Highway: An uuplifting hymn. Here, Will tries to clear his mind and focus on important things while driving down 75.
Syntha: A conversation with a girl, explaining some insecurities and Will wanting to be with someone that can be there for him. Life’s simplicities.
Fix You Need: A much more intimate version of the continued conversation, a much deeper and spiritual feeling between Will and the girl that he has come to see. She seems to be more of a ‘thing’ than he had initially intended her to be.
Wings: Will finds his purpose, focuses on his dreams and, much like the climate of the election, he moves forward!
