Previously spotted on SFPL‘s Artist Spotlight, UK’s own Angel drops the addictive new single “Hi Grade” from his forthcoming EP – due this spring.

Hot on the heels of a hugely successful 2016, which saw him bring his mesmerizing vocals and must-see stage performance to sold-out headline shows at London’s Bush Hall over two nights and a date at Birmingham Academy 3 plus gigs at Wireless and V Festivals and the release of his HER EP which has been streamed over 2 million times globally, the up and coming talent is very ready to keep the music wheels moving, and doesn’t plan to stop at all.

Angel told FADER:

“Some of you may or may not be aware that I have West Indian parentage. My pops was a huge influence on me growing up playing with all of the big Reggae artists in the late 80’s and 90’s.  I actually started producing Reggae music initially before I found love in R&B.  This record was an opportunity to make something my Pops and Uncles would be really proud of.  It’s authentic and represents my foundation and roots.  It’s really important to me.”

Written and produced by Angel and a nod to his own musical upbringing having a father who played around the world with legendary reggae artists such as Bob Marley, Misty in Roots, Dennis Brown and his own band Zabandis, the official song mixes reggae and R&B vibes with Angel’s stellar vocals to create a stunning, fresh sound that fans old and new will find impossible to get out of their heads or off their stereos.  The track follows the massively popular ‘HER’ EP which featured the Harmony Samuels produced “Fvxk With You” that saw west London meeting America’s ‘dirty south’, delivered courtesy of an explosive 16 bars from Atlanta, Georgia’s Rich Homie Quan and made a huge splash across both sides of the Atlantic. The forthcoming project will see Angel building on the waves he created last year, whilst continuing to showcase his incredible songwriting ability and flair for hypnotic hooks and earworm melodies.

Today on our ‘Artist Spotlight,’ rising UK R&B singer/songwriter Angel recently released his debut EP Her. To support the special project, the talented artist also premiered the visual for “Fvxk With You” featuring Rich Homie Quan, which is the official single.

The EP is a pre-cursor to a debut album due next year on Motown/Capitol in the US. He’s worked with the likes of Swizz Beatz (who is a mentor of his), Ed Sheeran, Jeremih, Jason Derulo, Dizzee Rascal, Stormzy, and more, and has recently been in the studio with the likes of Kehlani, Prince Charlez (worked on Rihanna’s Anti), and Pop and Oak (Nicki Minaj).

He’s also penned songs for UK staples like Pixie Lott and Cheryl Cole (of Girls Aloud), and wrote the UK #1 single, “Green Light” by grime music collective Roll Deep. Angel got his start singing at home, growing up in West London. His father is Tenadi Charles, a popular figure in the UK reggae scene, who’s played with Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Kaya and more.

Angel (real name Sirach Charles) formed a band with his siblings growing up, The Charles Family and ended up touring across the UK, before starting to make a name for himself in the studio. He released his solo debut single in 2012, which reached the top 10 of the UK charts. Already a festival mainstay in Europe, with ‘HER’ and his upcoming debut, he is shaping up to become a household name across both sides of the atlantic.
