New Music: Candice Glover – “My Mistake”

[ione_embed src=https://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=https%3A//api.soundcloud.com/tracks/312433474&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true service=soundcloud.com width=100 height=450 type=iframe]

American Idol winner, Candice Glover is out with a new single, “My Mistake.” She premiered the track through the Los Angeles Times. The release comes as Candice gears up for the release of her second studio album since her AI win during the show’s 12th season.

The song’s focus is not the instrumentals, but rather Glover’s vulnerable message of falling for the wrong person. The slow-jazz like production beautifully wraps around Candice’s soft and robust vocals as she tells a relatable story of being gullible to a flawed type of love and romance.

Glover says of the single:

“I’ve gone through a lot lately and as I move forward with this journey in my career, I wanted to reflect on times that I fell in love with every ounce of a person despite my reservations. Everyone has been there and I want this new record to speak to those people. I want all my new music to encourage people to reflect on themselves, even if it hurts.”

Candice plans on moving forward with her music career as an independent artist and will drop her newest album this summer. Currently, Candice is performing across the country as she finishes her latest project. “My Mistake” is available on iTunes and will be followed with a music video for the single in the coming months.

SFPL’s Artist Spotlight: Kori James Releases “L.I.T.A.” Visual Feat. Ré Lxuise

Life’s messed up sometimes – and no one is illustrating that point in music right now better than new singer/songwriter Kori James.

Multiple genres and influences ring and bump throughout his single “L.I.T.A. (Love in the Air),” which he produced, wrote, and sung. The 29-year old Miami native- now Atlanta resident, showcases his writing skills on a record that is as much a tender ballad as it is passionate up-tempo. Fellow Atlanta upstart Ré Lxuise lends her lush harmonies to the bridge and rounds out the cinematic song.

On the visual end, Kori James enlists the acting chops of actress and American Idol finalist, Loren Lott and her real-life fiancé, actor Terayle Hill to lead the video, while J.Kavier, another Atlanta upstart, directs behind the lens.

“L.I.T.A.” is an ambitiously shot video that details the high hopes we sometimes have for love to find us, even if we have to fight to earn it. It’s a state of mind most of us know well, or knew well at one time. Sometimes love isn’t in the cards and no matter how hard we try to will it into existence, it never was. These reality check-like themes are found through his music, and along with the diverse sound inspirations, help to shape what is emerging as a new “Alt-R&B” music landscape.

Ironically, these days, Kori doesn’t have much time for love anymore. Between writing and producing his own music, coming up with the treatments for videos, he’s also writing and collaborating with other artists on projects you’ve either heard or will hear soon. “L.I.T.A.” is a line in the sand for James. One that sees him beginning to craft his own lane not only within music, but in a culture ripe and diverse in artistic expression and ever-widening in narratives.

Kori James will release his first EP, Tomorrow on November 25th , available on his website korijames.com.

SFPL Music: Jennifer Lopez ‘Ain’t Your Mama’ In New Single

Jenny from the block may be bidding farewell to her chair as a judge on American Idol, but she’s back with new music. Her latest single “Ain’t Your Mama” is sure to become this summer’s feminist anthem.

In the track, J. Lo puts a man-child in his place letting him know that contrary to what he believes she isn’t his mama so he shouldn’t be expecting her to do any cooking or to take care of his delicates. Of course, the songs production features latin influences and is sure to have all the ladies shaking their hips in the club.

“Ain’t Your Mama” was produced by Dr. Luke (which really makes us want to hate it) and written by Meghan Trainor and Jacob Kashner.

You can listen to the brand new song below. Lopez will debut “Ain’t Your Mama” tonight on the series finale of American Idol.

Mariah Slams ‘American Idol’ Upon Cancellation: “That Was The Worst Experience of My Life”

Mariah Carey seems to be happy that American Idol is on it’s way to cancellation land. The veteran singer and past AI judge, recently called in to an Australian radio show and shaded the show in it’s entirety.

Mariah says:

“That was the worst experience of my life. I don’t think they had any intentions for us to have a good experience doing that show. Pitting two females against each other wasn’t cool,” Carey talks about her past fellow judge, collaborator, and now arch-nemesis Nicki Minaj. “It should’ve been about the contestants instead of about some nonexistent feud that turned into even more ridiculousness. It’s so boring and so fake. You have to make up things to say about people. Half the time the performances are good. You’d just be like, ‘It was good!’”

Well, didn’t she just tell it all!

What are your thoughts?

Meanwhile, Carey has been blasted about her recent Vegas residency show. One reviewer went so far as to compare the show to a car crash. Ouch.

Complex said:

The performances were elaborate and big budget. As the show’s title may suggest, Mariah pledged to perform all 18 (!) of her No. 1 hits in chronological order. It kicked off with 1990’s “Vision of Love.” The stage’s butterfly wing motif slid open to a visage of Mariah wearing an awful wig meant to bring back memories of her younger self. It was pretty rough. Her superhuman ability to crack the sound barrier with amazing vocal registers and pitch was gone—her trademark voice reduced to a rasp. She would overcompensate for this many times during the night by bleating out “woo woo” or “no no” in different ranges.

To add to Mariah’s not-so good year, allegedly her brother Morgan claims in The National ENQUIRER that his sister’s caught in a suicidal web of alcohol and drug abuse, and he fears “she’ll die just like Whitney Houston!” Wait…WHET??

SFPL Artist Spotlight: DeAndre Brackensick – “I’m Not The Only One” (Sam Smith Cover)

image

In a world completely saturated with viral videos, it’s hard to remember any of them after 15 minutes. However, this viral sensation is going to get more than 15 after getting the recognition he deserves. DeAndre Brackensick is his name and he is a former American Idol contestant with a very unique voice of raw emotion and precise riffs. Paired with creativity, melodic runs and harmonies tight enough to make you want to holler, he WILL be your next obsession! Yes! He is that good!

After his run on American Idol where he made it to the top 12, he decided to start working on his own music. He recorded his first single “Her Crazy” released in 2013. Fortunately, for us it didn’t just stop at studio recording. DeAndre hopped on social media using various video recording apps and has created his own collection of covers good enough to make you say, “Maxwell who?” Yes, the talented singer was and still is quite compared to the legendary R&B singer to this very day, and DeAndre accepts that. It’s almost like DeAndre is secretly the “secret child” of Maxwell and Beyonce, but we just don’t know it! Could you imagine??!
Like, take a look at this pic below….
