BIG3 Press Conference: Ice Cube, Allen Iverson, Roger Mason Jr. and more

Producer, actor and music legend Ice Cube, along with entertainment executive Jeff Kwatinetz officially announced today the launch of the BIG3 (www.BIG3.com), a new, 3-on-3, half-court basketball league that will feature some of the best players to ever play the game. Former National Basketball Players Association Deputy Executive Director and NBA player Roger Mason, Jr. will serve as the league’s Commissioner and President.

“The BIG3 was created as the ultimate basketball fan experience,” said BIG3 founder Ice Cube.  “We’re bringing some of the baddest names to ever play the game, and giving them a platform to not only showcase their skills, but to entertain their fans in a high-energy, physical and competitive environment.  As a diehard basketball fan, I personally can’t wait to see my favorite players back in action.”

The BIG3 will begin in June 2017, and will unite basketball greats and their biggest fans with an entertaining 3-on-3 basketball league played in arenas across the country. The new league will bring fans legendary NBA superstars competing against one another, in never-before-seen matchups and team pairings. Former NBA players who have officially committed to participate include Allen Iverson, Chauncey Billups, Gary Payton, Kenyon Martin, Stephen Jackson, Jermaine O’Neal, Rashard Lewis, Jason Williams, Bonzi Wells, Mike Bibby and George “The Iceman” Gervin. Payton and Gervin will serve as coaches, with Iverson serving as a player/coach – the rest are confirmed to play.

The BIG3 will comprise eight teams of five players, one head coach, and one assistant coach. Regular season games will take place each Saturday from June 24 through August 12, with playoff games played on August 19 and 26. The BIG3 will take place each week in a different arena and city across the country, with all four games happening on the same day in the same venue, creating the excitement of a Final Four or All-Star Game atmosphere.

“The BIG3 puts a special emphasis on the players, and they are an integral part of its function,” said Mason, Jr. “From the coaching, to the team selection and the games themselves – the league is player powered.  We’re excited for the players to have such an active role in the BIG3 and look forward to a successful partnership.”

The BIG3’s weekly festivals will be among the most exciting sports atmospheres in the world by intertwining competitive games featuring basketball legends and superstar entertainment and halftime shows. Adding to the highly energetic games will be individualized music and introductions and fan interaction with players and exhibits before and after the games.

“Three-on-three basketball is the most played sport in the world.  It is a universally beloved form of basketball that truly highlights a player’s technical skill set,” said BIG3 founder Kwatinetz. “The BIG3 will bring our favorite basketball stars to one of the most popular forms of the sport. The league promises to deliver fun, exciting and fast-paced basketball played by some of the game’s most talented players.”

Games will be played up to 60 points, with the first team to reach the 60-point mark the winner. Halftime will take place when the first team reaches 30 points.

BIG3 will introduce into play a 4-point shot with three 4-point circles beyond the 3-point line. Players can shoot for four points by touching any part of the circle.

Designed as a player-centric league, BIG3 will feature 40 players, with the players earning a 52 percent revenue share. The revenue split will be determined by the final league standings, including postseason results in order to maximize competitiveness between the teams.

Players will operate their teams, with a Player Captain designated to make personnel decisions. All coaches will be former NBA players.

Reebok Re-Releases Iconic Question Mid OG

The Year of the Question started with the Prototype, and as it nears the end, comes back with a classic.

For one of the final installments of the 20th anniversary of the Reebok Question Mid in 2017, Reebok is re-releasing the Question Mid OG Blue Toe, which Allen Iverson wore on the court regularly in his rookie year, and was the shoe he wore during his iconic “crossover” moment.

The style of the shoe is emblematic of his game; the Hexalite midsole construction, bold shades, and ice sole complemented his game and team’s classic colors. The crisp white leather upper is the perfect canvas for vibrant red hits of the classic Vector branding on the tongue and side panels.

The Reebok Classic Question Mid OG Blue Toe is now available and is selling for $140 at Reebok.com and select retailers including Finish Line, Footaction and Champs Sports.

Allen Iverson’s Family Featured In Reebok Question Mid x Melody Ehsani Ad

The Reebok Question Mid x Melody Ehsani is not just about Allen Iverson – it celebrates the strong women who have supported him throughout his career.

The most important women in Allen’s life – his daughters Tiaura, Messiah and Dream, and their mother Tawanna – were featured in an exclusive campaign to support the launch of this women’s version of the iconic Question Mid sneaker.  Creative directed by Melody herself and shot by Allen’s long time photographer Gary Land in Charlotte, NC, the campaign features an all over monotone aesthetic to go with the design of the shoe.

“Aside from being one of the greatest players, Iverson to me more so was a cultural leader and game changer, so I made sure to embody some of those elements into the shoe,” says designer Melody Eshani.

The Reebok Question Mid x Melody Ehsani uses three different types of color-matched leather to make up the upper, quarter and heel in order to create dimension on the tonal design.  The tongue has a replica emboss of Allen’s “Hold My Own” tattoo.  On the back heel, there is a Velcro spot that allows you to switch out different leather patch designs of 3 of his other tattoos.  The interior lining features an image of Allen’s cornrows, and the sock liner is a paisley print representing his iconic bandana.  The upper has a black patent toe box, the sole remains ice blue as a nod to the original Question, and there are two lace options – one in tonal vegetable tan, and another in black and vegetable tan bungee inspired lace.

Hall of Fame is the next brand to collaborate with Reebok to help celebrate the Year of the Question, with their very own 20th anniversary edition of the legendary Allen Iverson signature shoe. Like many of the other collaborators throughout the Question’s big year, the Los Angeles-based sportswear label looks to an important piece of Iverson’s history and style on and off the court for inspiration for their colorway. In this case, Hall of Fame highlights one of AI’s most iconic style statements: his cornrows.

The shoe is constructed in a premium black nubuck upper with woven paneling referencing his braids, all in a deconstructed design with the usual padding removed to create a sleeker, lifestyle-minded silhouette. Further refinements to the Question by Hall of Fame include leather utilized for the lace gillies, inner lining, and sockliner, along with embossed leather branding throughout. Every pair will also come with multiple lace options in Philly’s alternate uniform colors.

Reebok and Jadakiss Launch Question-Mid “A5”

Reebok, Allen Iverson and Jadakiss have had a long and colorful history together. In 2001, the three parties came together to shoot a game-changing commercial for Iverson’s Answer V sneaker launch. Shot entirely in black-and-white, Jadakiss penned an original song for the commercial, which showed Iverson displaying his basketball skills while Jadakiss rapped along in beat to Iverson’s performance, cementing Reebok as the first brand to truly fuse hip-hop with the sportswear industry.

The classic ad further emphasized Iverson’s place in hip-hop culture and has become one of the most iconic sneaker commercials ever, and also began a relationship between Reebok and Jadakiss that continues today with the all-new Question Mid “A5”.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Question Mid this year, Reebok has created the new Question Mid “A5,” which is inspired by the OG Answer V sneaker, with a tumbled black leather and ballistic nylon upper accented by reflective silver piping and toe cap. Hits of translucent red adorn the sole as well as a distinctive red Question logo at the collar and “Y” and “O” on either heel which represent Jada’s hometown of Yonkers.

Reebok’s “Year of the Question,” celebrating the 20th anniversary of Allen Iverson’s landmark signature model, is showing no signs of slowing down yet, as another strong colorway hits the market in early July.

Dubbed the Question Mid “Only The Strong Survive” in reference to Iverson’s lifelong mentality, the vibrant orange colorway of the Question Mid is inspired by his toughness and attention-grabbing style on and off the court.

The Question was designed with Kevlar fibers in the atomic red woven upper with reflective toe caps and tongues referencing his flashy play and ball handling skills. In place of the usual #3 embroidered on the midsole’s heel are two pieces of Iverson’s body art: a bulldog and diamond.

The Question Mid “Only The Strong Survive” will drop for $139.99 on Friday, July 1st at Reebok.com, Jimmy Jazz and Finish Line.

To honor the latest release of the iconic AI shoe, DC boutique MAJOR took inspiration from AI’s college team in impeccable form. The bold colorway combines an all-reflective material for the upper—inspired by Iverson’s flashy style of play—with the recognizable kente cloth graphic print from the uniforms of Iverson’s era with the team.

Below the icy blue outsole, you’ll find a graphic of AI’s bulldog tattoo, his first of many more that decorated his frame over the years. Further special detailing includes insoles printed with the zip codes of the Georgetown area of D.C.

The MAJOR x Reebok Question will be available in limited quantities for $180 in-store at MAJOR on March 18th at 11 AM followed by an online release on the 19th.
