Fly Exclusive: Afropunk & Toyota Get The ‘Green’ Conversation Started In Brooklyn

Before we took our talents to this year’s Afropunk Festival, as part of Toyota’s overall Afropunk Brooklyn experience, we were privy to attend a special dialogue/panel (done over brunch) which promoted and discussed the growing community of African Americans engaging in and practicing sustainable living.

Held at Brooklyn’s newest obsession, Sweet Chick (the downtown Flatbush location), tastemakers and members of the elite brown press in NYC congregated over the franchise’s signature chicken & waffles, mac & cheese, mimosas, bloody mary’s and more over a smooth Brooklyn soundtrack as the conversation started up.

Kerene Tayloe, policy director for Green For All, a national organization working to ensure people of color and working families have a place and voice in the climate movement, lead a panel conversation with sustainability advocates and TGI coalition members, hip-hop artist Stic of Dead Prez, selfproclaimed “Queen of Green”, Yoli , as well as, Yvonna Wright of Lomar Farms.

The group kicked off the conversation about the emerging green movement among people of color and the importance of building a coalition of green advocates in those communities at an intimate brunch near the festival.  Needless to say it was a much needed conversation, and we were glad to be in attendance.

Fly News: Tyler, the Creator Lands TV Show On Viceland

Tyler, the Creator is making his return to the silver screen.

The Odd Future MC has joined forces with VICELAND for a late-night program that draws inspiration from his Golf Media app.

This will be Tyler’s second foray in television. His bizarre sketch comedy show Loiter Squad debuted on Adult Swim in 2012 and lasted for three seasons. At the moment details regarding the new series are scarce, but we do know it is set to air during Viceland’s next programming block.

Tyler will be joining emcee Action Bronson on the 24-hour cable channel. Bronson currently stars in two shows: Fuck That’s Delicious and Action Bronson & Friends Watch Ancient Aliens, which recently featured the Goblin rapper as a guest. Tyler also recently sat down with Afropunk to discuss the demise of his brash Twitter handle @f*cktyler.

Check out his appearance on Action Bronson & Friends Watch Ancient Aliens and his chat with AP below.
