ABIR Celebrates Everyone That Are Making Things Happen With “Girls” [New Music]

After riding the “WAVE” with Masego on her debut release earlier this year, ABIR is back at it again with, “GIRLS,” which was premiered via Billboard.

Never one to bite her tongue, the 21-year-old Moroccan-born singer/songwriter sips tea and throws shade towards all the catty girls and BS boys that she’s crossed paths with. However, ABIR insists that “this record isn’t about being bitter or hating on anyone – it’s actually a celebration and an anthem for all the young girls and boys making sh*t happen!”

ABIR doubled down on that notion by enlisting a dozen of NYC’s most influential young girls for a one-of-a-kind social media campaign on Instagram, featuring London Zhiloh, Minahil Ayazm, and seemingly every “IT” girl of Summer 16. Having already shared the stage this year with The-Dream, DAWN, Elhae and many others, expect ABIR to keep the shows coming.

Last Night in NYC: Elle Varner, Abir, Jessica Betts and More Perform At Nema’s Boom Boom Room

It was a night dedicated to nothing but good music and some good ole R&B at Nema Kamar’s R&B music showcase Nema’s Boom Boom Room. Folks packed the popular concert venue/night club DROM located in Alphabet City in NYC to enjoy soulful performances from Angelica Silva, Corey Nova, Jessica Betts, Abir and headlining act Elle Varner.

Comedian Kyle Grooms and  Celebirty DJ/Host, Tali Gore helped keep things lively before introducing each of the acts. Kyle supplied the humor and kept the crowd laughing as they waited for each singer to grace the stage.

Angelica Vila started the show singing original cuts such as “Making Up My Mind” backed by dancers.

Corey Nova brought even more energy to the stage and wowed the crowd with his explosive stage presence. The crowd totally got into his with his rendition of Bobby Brown’s classic record “My Prerogative”.

Jessica Betts really stole the show with her powerful vocals and her amazing guitar skills. Jessica even did a cover of “Kiss” that Prince would be proud of.

Abir may look small but her voice absolutely shook the building. She raised the energy in the building as the crowd was totally blown away by her amazing vocals.

The woman of the hour Elle Varner didn’t disappoint. Elle opened up her set with “F**K It All” before she decided to bless her fans with a new track titled “Nothing”. She closed out the show with an amazing acoustic performance of her smash hit “Refill”.

It’s a new year with new vibes!

You may remember ABIR here at SFPL from our list of 10 Artists To Look Out for In #2015, for songs like “BCKN4th“, or applying her sweet vocal on rapper Fabolous‘ album The Young OG Project.

Today, the DMV talent pairs up with Masego for a new track that will literally make you dance entitled “Wave” produced EFF3X, bringing instrumentation and vibration of what will soon be a feel-good classic; the one tune you will definitely remember for years to come.

ABIR tells FADER:

“This record is a celebration of discovering my own personal sound and riding that wave. There’s so much pressure as a new artist to conform and compete with what’s already popping—in my mind, that’s someone else’s wave and it might just crash into the rocks. Coming out of the DMV, I had been hearing about Masego for a minute, but I never met him before we linked at Blast Off Studios in New York — being the genuine and talented person that he is, he jumped on the record without hesitation.”
