In the middle of her current label debacle with Blackground Records, Joanna “JoJo” Levesque is finally getting the recognition that she deserves. As of recent, JoJo has been casted for an upcoming broadway show entitled ‘Jawbreaker: The Musical’. Check out more deets below….
MadBromance Productions announced today that they will be hosting a 29-hour reading of JAWBREAKER: THE MUSICAL on September 26th and 27that 3p.m. With a book by Darren Stein who wrote and directed the 1999 film,JAWBREAKER has music and lyrics by Jeff Thomson and Jordan Mann(Trails), choreography by Shea Sullivan (The Big Gay Musical), musical direction by James Sampliner (Legally Blonde, The Wedding Singer) and is directed by Gabriel Barre (The Wild Party).
The reading will feature Diana DeGarmo (American Idol, Hairspray, 9 to 5) as Fern Mayo, Kate Flannery (The Office) as Principal Sherwood, Elizabeth Gillies (13, “Victorious”) as Courtney, Joanna “Jojo” Levesque (The Bernie Mac Show, RV, G.B.F.) as Julie. The cast also includes Sydni Beaudoin,Taylor Frey, Frankie James Grande, Alexa Green, John Arthur Greene,Veronica Kuehn, Mykal Kilgore, Paul Heesang Miller, Marissa Rosen, LaQuet Sharnell, Allie Schulz and Marty Thomas.
Based on the 1999 film starring Rose McGowan, Julie Benz, Judy Greer and Rebecca Gayheart, JAWBREAKER: THE MUSICAL tells the Faustian tale of “Satan-in-heels” Courtney Shayne and her mean girl minions who play a fatal birthday prank on their best friend. When wallflower Fern Mayo catches the flawless three tucking their dead friend back into bed, Courtney promises to make Fern popular in exchange for her silence. Darkly comedic,JAWBREAKER is about the lengths we go to belong. With a propulsive pop score that ranges from Lady Gaga style synth pop to lush melodic ballads, Jawbreaker tells a relatable, mythic story for anyone who survived high school.
