SFPL’s Exclusive Interview: Mindless Behavior

SFPL Intern Amber, recently interviewed music’s newest teen sensations, Mindless Behavior. Prodigy, Roc Royal, Ray Ray and Princeton discussed how they got their start, how to be “Mindless”, and what the term “FLY” means to them.

Mindless Behavior is a dynamic group of young men armed with limitless talent, drive, energy and a fearless passion for music and performing. Barely into their teens, has the quartet’s energetic fusion of pop, hip hop, and R&B quite simply had the potential to transform the entire musical landscape as we know it.

Comprised of four spirited 13 year old boys – Prodigy, Roc Royal, Ray Ray and Princeton – Mindless Behavior employs an insane sleek and futuristic fashion style, epic dance moves, and global-ready pop songs. Their sound resonates with lush harmonies and messages that speak to listeners of all ages.

How did you guys meet and form the group?
We met at an audition in Los Angeles in 2008 that was put together by Vincent Herbert, who is the head of Streamline Records, Walter Millsap, Keisha Gamble, songwriter Candice Nelson and choreographer David Scott. We were picked out of 500 other kids that auditioned. We had two years of artist development and Vincent introduced us to Jimmy Iovine and here we are!

What does the name Mindless Behavior mean?
Mindless to us is a lifestyle; a movement. Being able to express ourselves and having confidence. It’s our way of thinking and promoting individuality. Anything can be mindless. If you get good grades in school, that’s mindless; you see a pretty girl, that’s mindless.

What does the term “fly” mean you you?
Fly to us means having you own swag. Owning your individuality and having confidence. Just being you is fly.

What advice do you have for other teenagers aspiring to be in the music industry?
We would say that you should definitely have a good work ethic, believe in yourself, and be discipline. Just have fun and have good singing skills!

What’s the one thing you guys miss about being regular teenagers?
We are having fun right now because this is what we want to do. We are living our dreams so we don’t really look at it that way. The one thing that we will miss is going to our high school prom but who knows, we might pick a fan to to with us!
