Today Commemorates the 13th Anniversary of the death of the Notorious B.I.G. Christopher Wallace died of a fatal shooting after attending an after party in Los Angeles. His murder has been unsolved up to this day. I’m born in raised in Bed Stuy, I grew up on the same stomping grounds as Biggie, and watched the effect that his stardom had on the entire neighborhood. Biggie represented a different type of hope to the residents of his neighborhood. He represented an end to a cycle of drugs and incarceration. He gave hope to a young man who only knew drugs, and would ultimately end up dead or incarcerated. He represented Options. He introduced another way to maintain yourself that was both legal and respectable. He started a movement of Rappers and Singers, but he also started a movement of Dreamers. A movement of dreamers, who because of his accomplishments would grow to look past the negative options the hood produced, on to the positive options the World Produced.
To us, he was more then a Rapper. He made it.
R.I.P. Christopher Wallace.
