Gerard Butler trades in the handguns and automatic weapons for a more nerdy approach saving the world in the new disaster-sci/fi flick Geostorm. Making his directorial debut, Dean Devlin who is no stranger to disaster movies whether it’s Earth destroying aliens in Independence Day or giant fire-breathing lizards in Godzilla.
In the film Geostorm we can now control the world’s weather making disastrous weather a thing of the past thanks to a network of weather influencing satellites that circle the planet. But of course things always don’t work out perfectly when the same system created to protect us goes haywire. Instead of preventing bad weather, it produces a world destroying geostorm that comes with killer tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, and tsunamis. It’s up to Gerard Butler who plays the systems creator to stop the satellites before they completely destroy the planet.
Geostorm looks to be the perfect storm of all disaster movies combined together. Also starring in the film is Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish, Alexandra Maria Lara, Daniel Wu, Ed Harris and Andy Garcia. The film arrives in theaters October 20th in 3D and 2D in select theaters and IMAX.
