ABC is doubling up on laughs this summer and it’s all thanks to a couple of our favorite funnymen.
Ever since it was announced that a television remake of the 1989 comedy, starring the late John Candy, was in the works with Mike in the starring role, there has been a combination of curiosity, anticipation, and a little trepidation as well.
If you need a little refresher about the plot of Uncle Buck, it’s pretty simple. A lifelong slacker who is once again down on his luck needs a job and a place to live. Luckily, his brother and sister-in-law also need someone to watch their three children and help around the house. Despite his faults, Buck is actually lovable, even though he manages to get himself and those around him in slapstick situations.
Ageless beauty Nia Long co-stars as Buck’s reluctant sister-in-law, Alexis, and James Lesure plays her husband and Buck’s straight-laced brother, Will. The show is set to air eight episodes.
As if that wasn’t enough to keep you laughing and satisfied on Tuesday nights, ABC is also premiering a reboot of the classic TV game show To Tell the Truth.
This time, Black-ish star Anthony is the host, along with regular panelists Real Housewives of Atlanta star Nene Leakes, former NBA star Jalen Rose, and the always lovable Betty White, who was also a guest on the original version of the show.
The show’s premise revolves around four celebrities who try to determine which of the show’s three contestants is actually telling the truth about who they claim to be. The show will air six episodes and serve as a lead-in to Uncle Buck.
Congratulations to both Mike and Anthony on their new shows.
To Tell the Truth airs at 8 p.m. and Uncle Buck airs at 9 p.m. For more on these shows, check out the feature on The Washington Post.
