Kesha hasn’t released any music since 2013’s “Timber” from Pitbull‘s Meltdown. Today she’s back with a collaboration with EDM producer Zedd, titled “True Colors.”

The duo debuted the track during Zedd’s Coachella set this past weekend where the singer made a surprise appearance. Originally released last year on his album by the same name with Rock Mafia’s Tim James providing vocals, Kesha’s version of “True Colors” is raw yet grandiose. You can feel the emotion oozing as Kesha belts,

“All my life, one page at a time. I’ll show you my, my true colors. No, no I won’t apologize for the fire in my eyes. Let me show you my, my true colors, it ain’t your rainbow”

You can sense that this record served as a cathartic experience for Kesha. She’s been caught up in a grueling legal battle with producer Dr. Luke after accusing him of sexual abuse and fighting contractual stipulations that barred her from recording with anyone but him. Zedd took to Twitter to clarify that the song’s release was done with the blessings of her label Kemosabe/RCA.

‘True Colors” will be available for purchase and streaming Friday April 29. The duo united after Zedd shared his support for Kesha on Twitter following a judge’s denial of her injunction against Dr. Luke back in February.

“Very very sorry to hear about your whole situation. I’ll be happy to produce a song for you if you want my help.”

The tik-tok singer thanked the producer for his support in a photo of her recording “True Colors” with the following caption,

“It’s a miracle when someone gives you a chance at finding your voice again with no reason other than that he is a fucking beautiful person with a heart of gold.”

Music can serve as a source of healing and it’s only right that Kesha be allowed to continue to create her art regardless of the ongoing legal battle. Kudos to Zedd for choosing to ignore the music industry bureaucracy and being willing to give her an outlet. You can listen to the empowering “True Colors” below.
