Charlize Theron is the latest star to join the Fast & Furious franchise as their “greatest adversary ever” for the next installment in the saga Furious 8. The announcement was made via the films Facebook account.
While details surrounding the plot of the next film are scarce the studio tapped Theron for the role early on, but she wouldn’t commit without having read a finished draft of the script. Even with a draft of the script completed, the Mad Max: Fury Road star couldn’t fully commit due to issues with her schedule. It looks like Theron was meant to play Furious 8‘s villain as her schedule cleared up and she’s 100% on board.
Production for the film is scheduled to begin this summer with the release date planned for April 14, 2017. F. Gary Gray will be directing with Neil Moritz and Vin Diesel as producers. Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, and Michelle Rodriguez will be reprising their roles.
Theron can be seen in the upcoming film The Huntsman: Winter’s War in theaters April 22.
