Asher Roth and Nottz have teamed up once again, but this time they brought along drummer Travis Barker for a collaborative project titled Rawther

The six-track EP serves as a sequel of sorts to Roth and Nottz’s 2010 EP Rawth and is accompanied by a video. Directed by renowned hip-hop music video director Aristotle Torres, they partnered up with GoPro to build a 6-camera rig that was able to capture insane 360 degree views which results in a visual masterpiece of disarray and chaos. The video is the perfect accompaniment to Barker’s monstrous snares, as well as Roth and Nottz’s straight forward in your face lyricism. Add in Nottz seamless production (he’s produced for hip-hop’s biggest names including Busta Rhymes, Kanye West, Game, Snoop Dogg, and Pusha T), in the end you’re left with a feeling despair because the experience has ended way too soon.

Roth has been relatively quiet since his 2014 album Retrohash.  In a letter sent to fans subscribed to his newsletter he shared their motivations behind the project.

“The collaborative project constructed by Nottz Raw, Travis Barker and myself is a celebration of years of friendship and a marriage of our boisterous personalities. Although Nottz may seem reserved at first, the animated alien shines bright behind the boards. Travis’ uninhibited animal roars with each rip of the snare. As for myself, I couldn’t have been more excited to bring an exuberant voice to these two musical monsters.”

Roth has worked with video director Aristotle in the past. In the newsletter he spoke on choosing Aristotle to aid in bringing their visual vision for the project into fruition.

“It was only right to call upon our NYC-based sky dweller, Aristotle, to help bring the Rawther world to life.”

Rapper Royce da 5’9″ is the lone feature on the EP making an appearance on “Temptation.”
