Summer in NYC doesn’t officially start until Hot 97’s Summer Jam arrives. Dubbed the biggest hip-hop concert in the world for 23 years cause it always brings the heat every year.
Powered by Pepsi, CÎROC, McDonald’s, Nutrament, MetroPlus Health Plan, HER Imports, NJ Lottery Cash 4 Life, M360 Network, & Myx Moscato. Kendrick Lamar, Omarion, Fabolous & friends, Meek Mill & friends, Ty Dolla $ign & friends, Chris Brown, Trey Songz and Big Sean put on a show for a sold out crowd of more than 50,000 screaming fans.
As they do every year before things pop off on the main stage folks hit the festival stage to catch the hottest new acts currently blazing the airwaves. This years festival stage acts Teyana Taylor, B.o.B, Joey Bada$$, Dej Loaf, Fetty Wap,Charles Hamilton and Travis Scott got the crowd amped for the big show. Peep some performance photos from the festival stage below…
Once you get your fill of the festival village activities, it’s time to make your way inside the Met Life Arena for one of the biggest shows on the planet. Getting things started was former B2K leader Omarion.
The “Posed To Be” singer opened up his set showing off his dance moves remind us he still got it. Once he was done dancing Omarion hopped into his hits like “M.I.A.’ and then finally his current smash hit “Posed To Be’. We were honestly hoping Jhene Aiko would make an appearance on the Summer Jam main stage to sing her very popular verse from the song. Next up to hit the stage was Ty Dolla $ign and friends.
Ty Dolla $ign instantly got the show jumping with hits such as “Paranoid”. What had the crowd buzzing even more was the anticipation as to whom Ty was gonna bring to the stage. His first special guest was none other than Detroit’s own Dej Loaf.
Lil Loaf got the crowd rocking again to her hit record “Try Me” as Ty let her get a taste of the main stage. Immediately following her was none other Taylor Gangs head honcho Wiz Khalifa.
Wiz graced the stage with his smash hit “We Dem Boyz” blaring through the stadium. After that Ty and Wiz performed their collaboration “Or Nah” to the crowd’s delight while sharing a joint.
Ty’s set was very dope, got the crowd into the show but it was time to slow things down a bit. Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg, Laura Stylez and Ebro of the Ebro in The AM morning show came out to introduce the next act.
It was time for the Trey Songz experience. The mere mention of his name got the ladies in the crowd screaming. The screams got even louder once his band hit the music signaling for Mr. Steal Your Girl to hit the stage.
Trey hit the stage to nothing but screams and jumped into his bevy of hits such as “Touchin,Lovin” , “Slow Motion” as well as a new track off his forthcoming album ‘Trigga Reloaded’. Another great set, up next was none other the bad boy of pop Chris Brown.
You already know Chris is going to the bring the energy when it comes to his performances. He was a little hoarse but that’s fine he completely made up for it with his dance moves. Chris even brought some friends along, Coke Boys general French Montana joined Chris on stage for a bit.
Chris was done yet with the surprises as he brought out 50 Cent and the rest of G-Unit. Chris even joined 50 and sang the hook on 50’s classic song “Many Men”.
Chris then closed out his set of course with his smash hit “Loyal another good set, next up was The Young O.G, Fabolous.
Easily the best set of the night goes to Fabolous hands down. Fab not only ran through his hits but he definitely had it feeling like the 90’s in the Met Life Arena. Fab was going for a nostalgic feeling for the night and he accomplished that. He shocked fans when he brought out Black Rob to perform his classic banger “Whoa”.
Oh the trip down hip-hop memory lane wasn’t over yet. The building erupted when Spliff Star and Busta Rhymes came from the back.
Oh Fab wasn’t finished, he had another surprise from the 90’s as Harlem’s own Ma$e hit the stage.
Wait, wait, wait there’s more! Fab brought none other Remy Ma out!
How can Fab top that? Easy he brought Terror Squad back together as Fat Joe hit’s the stage to perform “Lean Back” with Remy.
Wow! So can Fab top that moment? Most definitely, Fab brings outs the M E T H O D Man. Of course the Method Man brought his friend Redman to perform on that main stage.
The surprises just kept coming as Wutang’s classic cut “Ice Cream’ come on. The Chef Raekwon himself comes out himself hold down his verse on the classic record.
But there’s more surprises as Queensbridge’s own Mobb Deep hit the stage to perform “Quiet Storm” remix.
Now you know they couldn’t perform the “Quiet Storm” remix without the Queen Bee right?
Kim reached back in the crates and performed some her hit records. Then “Money Power and Respect” came on you instantly knew the LOX had to make and appearance.
Fab had one more guest to bring, and it was none other that French Montana to help Fab perform “Balldrop” off his album The Young O.G. Project.
Fab’s set was amazing, Kendrick Lamar had to follow that up and that was no easy task at all.
Kendrick didn’t disappoint as he delivered the raw performance we have come to know Kendrick for. K Dot wasn’t alone as he brought his TDE crew with him to rock NYC.
Next up the Detroit player Big Sean.
Sean’s set was very energetic and raw as he put his all into it. The Detroit MC carried his set all by himself as went over records from his first album, his latest album and cuts off the Cruel Summer compilation album.
Now came time for the man of the hour, MeeK Mill!
Meek brought that raw energy we have come t love him for in his music. He was the proper choice to close the show out with. Meek came out roaring with his club banger “Monster”. Let’s not forget it is Meek and friends and he definitely brought some heavy hitters with him. Meek surprises the crowd when he brings out Future.
Future got the crowd turned up especially when he performed his current club banger “F*ck Up Some Commas”. Future was dope but that wasn’t who the crowd wanted to see. Meek hyped the crowd up as he gushed over his Queen Nicki Minaj boasting that there’s no rapper on her level. Funny thing about that, was the fact Remy Ma and Lil’Kim in the building. To no avail Nicki comes out to support her boo Meek,
Omeeka even had a moment on stage as they professed their love for each other squashing all rumors of a break up.
Awwwww how cute, Meek was the final act but Hot 97 gave some bonus acts at the end. Fetty Wap and Troy Ave hit the main stage to perform their hits as well.
Summer Jam 2015 was definitely one for the books, Fabolous really went all out for his set and Kendrick showed he knows how to command a crowd anywhere outside of L.A. We can’t wait till next years Summer Jam already. Hit the gallery below to see more photos from Summer Jam 2015.
